Istanbul, April 29, 2014 – Independent developer Nowhere Studios launched a new cinematic teaser trailer for its upcoming story driven platform game Monochroma.
Set in an alternate dystopian state during the 1950’s, Monochroma follows the story of a boy and his brother who witness a horrific crime committed by an evil corporation. Narratively led, with no cut-scenes, text or spoken words, Monochroma offers a deep visual, intellectual and emotional attachment, as the brothers work together to progress past devilishly clever puzzles to save their world from tyranny.
Monochroma’s producer Burak Tezateşer emphasizes that the trailer serves as a clue for viewers to unravel the paranoia and foreboding aspects of the story. Spread over four chapters, players will navigate challenging puzzles through multi-storied ghettos, a labyrinth of sewer tunnels, factories and a city sized zeppelin hovering in the sky.
“Monochroma is a game that questions the essence of playing a video game. A game might entertain players, make them feel good about themselves, or even help them socialize; but a good game should also be able to satisfy players emotionally and intellectually, make players think about their lives, society and the system they are living in the same way a good movie or novel does” says Tezateşer.
Inspired by the developers’ childhood memories of moving from the countryside to urban Istanbul and the “Gezi Protests” of 2013 – the most violently oppressed protest in modern Turkey – the game questions the societies of control, disinformation of media, destruction of nature, child labor exploitation and the liberal economy; all of which have been inspired by movies, classic stories and games.
As a social responsibility project Nowhere Studios also announced that they are donating $1 to the “Save The Children” organization for every sale made via their own website. They are also donating 15% of their revenue made in Turkey to an organization for homeless children.
Heroes & Generals is a unique combination of FPS and Strategy gameplay that takes place in the middle of Europe during WWII. Players can either take up arms as a heroic soldier and storm the front lines, or step back and control all of the action as a general. Today the developers of the game; Retro-Moto have compiled a brand new trailer that shows off some of the awesome gameplay while reminding us that it is soldiers and generals that win wars, not just tanks.
From the intense ground-based action, to aerial dogfights in the same vein as World of Warplanes, Heroes & Generals has everything you are looking for in a F2P FPS title. Check out the new trailer for the game, and for some more info hit up the official webpage. For all the Heroes & Generals news as it becomes available, stay tuned to Capsule Computers.
Overview The world of anime is full of series that take place in a post-apocalyptic or dystopian setting where things have either gone incredibly wrong or the world has progressed towards an unsettling future. Rarely is anything as good as it seems and even the most picturesque worlds have their flaws. With From the New World being set in a utopian-like setting, how will things unfold now that Collection 1 has been released?
Story In a modern looking setting, a number of people are violently murdered out of nowhere by a mysterious with the only signs pointing towards a boy in each area. After this bloody scene From the New World jumps a thousand years into the future where a young girl named Saki Watanabe is undergoing a ritual now that a ‘spirit’ has blessed her with powers and once this ritual is completed Saki is now able to join a number of her old friends in a new school since she was the last of the group to awaken to her powers, a thought that appeared to have frightened her parents a great deal.
At her new school, Saki is able to learn to control her telekinetic powers through various school activities alongside her friends Satoru, Maria, Shun, Mamoru, and Reiko. Now re-united with her friends, they talk about how it seems that those who are not gifted with powers appear to vanish. As they continue to learn their powers, they are put through a number of simple sounding tests but Reiko never seems to be able to complete anything. Oddly enough, she soon disappears which becomes a trend with those who cannot adhere to the rules of the school but what makes things even stranger is that her disappearance is barely even noticed by the rest of the class.
With dark rumors and many things off about the village and how the adults act, Saki and her friends are sent outside the village on a field trip but since they’ve always felt cooped up, Satoru wants to go farther than they have ever been before. After talking about mysterious creatures that explode when threatened and seeing strange Monster Rats earlier, the appearance of a glowing talking creature is only the beginning as the dark secrets of the idyllic world these kids live in are revealed.
From the New World is a bit of a mess when it comes to pacing and is a big fan of using massive infodumps that can span anywhere from half an episode to an entire episode which means that it is essential that the viewer pays attention. The aforementioned talking creature called a ‘False Minoshiro’ reveals that over the course of a millennium people have learned to control their telekinetic powers and goes into detail about how the world has changed since the rise of telekinetic abilities up until a few hundred years before the series takes place.
Since the first few episodes of the series referenced times in the past, this explanation is helpful and it also explains exactly what is happening in the village and details what these children’s childhood horror stories were all about. With empires rising and falling and humanity breaking into certain groups over the years, the explanation lays the groundwork for everything in the series and adds some much needed depth and explanation to the already extensive world building that has been put into From the New World.
We learn the truth behind mythological stories told to the children about Karmic Demons and Ogres as well as why they have come to act a certain way, but after this occurs the show takes a change of pace that puts these kids’ lives in danger as they get caught up in a war between two Monster Rat nests, with one side asking Saki and Satoru, who are seen as gods thanks to their powers, to help them fight off their foes.
This makes for a rather interesting departure for the previously slow world building and explanation that the series focused on previously before and also calls back to why Saki and the rest act like they do with Saki trying to resist a situation thanks to her new knowledge. However after a time skip this deep knowledge of what happened to the world to create the situation that they are in now does little to change how they act at school, though the reason for this is explained and again falls into the falsities that rule the current society, and begin entering relationships matching what the Minishiro had said they would based on genetic manipulation and conditioning, only helping to prove what it had said to the viewer.
Even after this time jump, the group continues to learn more about their powers but it grows ever clearer that there is something nefarious going on. Thanks to the rather poor pacing that forces the series into many instances of forcing information into the viewer’s mind, it is hard to stop watching this series as every episode reveals something mysterious and at the same time terrifying that this well established world sucks the viewer right into it.
Visuals Considering the setting of From the New World a large portion of the series takes place in either lush looking forests or snowy environments which are all gorgeously portrayed. The character designs are a bit unique looking but at the same time are rather plain and many times throughout the series the quality of the character designs takes a disappointing dip with odd looking limbs. It can be said however that the designs of the various creatures that appear in the release are superb looking, with the Monster Rats and interesting looking Trickster Cats being designed nicely.
There are also a few instances where it seems that some episodes are handled by an entirely different studio, episode 10 being the primary example of this. The new design taken for this episode is a bit off at first but it catches on quickly considering how dark the episode is and the events that take place in said episode.
Audio With From the New World Collection 1 viewers have the choice of either the original Japanese voice track or Sentai’s English dub and for the most part the English dub is perfectly serviceable as the actors are a nice fit for their characters, although Monica Rial’s portrayal of the older Maria sounds a bit too shrill at times, and even the voice work of the Monster Rats is handled surprisingly well for this release.
The background music throughout the show is used well and the series forgoes any opening theme to instead lead in with a dramatic short instrumental over the opening segment. As for the ending theme, we have the theme fitting “Wareta Ringo” by Risa Taneda, the Japanese voice actress for Saki.
Extras As far as bonus features are concerned; From the New World Collection 1 only comes with the bare minimum. There are a few Japanese promotional videos, a clean version of the ending theme, and trailers for other Sentai Filmworks releases.
Overall It is easy to see that From the New World was adapted from an actual novel instead of any other type of material thanks to how densely packed the details in this series are. Although it suffers from pacing problems, numerous issues are brought to the forefront in From the New World Collection 1 as we learn how humanity has reached this point and how dark the world is despite it being clear that we are only breaking the surface in this first half. With mysteries abound and the dark side of their society taking notice of the group, From the New World is an interesting and complex series that will be hard to put down.

When there was no Xbox Newsbeat this week, I started to get a bit shakey. What would we do without all the awesome Microsoft gaming news? Well it turns out that there is something even more exciting being announced that more than makes up for it; Xbox Originals! Back when the Xbox One was first announced, one of the selling points was that there would be new, original television programming that would be available on the console. Well now that time is here, as Microsoft are bringing Xbox Originals to both the Xbox One and Xbox 360.
After collaborating with some of Hollywood’s biggest movers and shakers, The guys over at Microsoft HQ have created some killer content that you will be able to watch through your console in the coming months. While the specifics of release dates and times is still somewhat ambiguous, here are the shows that you will be enjoying:
“Halo” television series
The “Halo” television series is a groundbreaking original series based on the award-winning “Halo” franchise. Award-winning filmmaker, director and producer Steven Spielberg will executive produce the live-action TV series, created in partnership with 343 Industries and Amblin Television.
“Every Street United”
“Every Street United” is an unscripted series of eight, thirty-minute episodes and a one-hour finale, featuring legendary soccer players Thierry Henry and Edgar Davids, focused on the global search for soccer’s most gifted and undiscovered street stars scouted across eight countries (United States, England, Argentina, Spain, Brazil, the Netherlands, Ghana and South Korea). The series culminates this July in a 4v4 street game finale in the shadow of the World Cup in Rio de Janeiro.
Each episode will feature unique and incisive narratives about the grassroots street stars and the communities that shaped them. Industry veteran and eight-time Emmy-Award winning producer, director, writer and editor Jonathan Hock (“Streetball,” “30 for 30: The Best That Never Was”) is directing the series. Emmy-Award winning producer Mike Tollin and Mandalay Sports Media are executive producing. Professional soccer luminaries, Henry and Davids, will serve as coaches for the 4v4 street game in Rio. “Every Street United” will premiere in June 2014. All episodes will be available through Xbox Video for Xbox One, Xbox 360, Windows 8 (PC and Surface) and Windows Phone 8.
About to become a whole lot more useful
Bonnaroo
Xbox owners around the globe can experience the magic of the 13th annual Bonnaroo music and arts festival with a live concert destination on Xbox Live Friday, June 13 through Sunday, June 15, 2014, brought to viewers in partnership with Superfly Presents. With the Bonnaroo app, fans can enjoy live music like never before, with a virtual experience featuring the best performances, multiple stages, biggest artists and amazing SuperJams, and explore this year’s lineup to see the best of Bonnaroo’s past with exclusive performances. Fans can also join the conversation with fellow virtual-Bonnaroovians and get connected to their friends and the festival. Xbox is the exclusive broadcasting partner for Bonnaroo and the only location to get all of the interactive features.
“Signal to Noise”/“Atari: Game Over”
Xbox is creating a new six film documentary series, “Signal to Noise,” (working title) with two-time Academy Award winning producer Simon Chinn (“Searching for Sugar Man” and “Man on Wire”) and Emmy winning producer Jonathan Chinn (FX’s “30 Days” and PBS’s “American High”), through their multi-platform media company, Lightbox. The series will expose little known stories of how modern technology has radically altered the way we interact with our world.
The first installment, “Atari: Game Over” (working title), explores the fabled Atari mystery, dubbed “The Great Video Game Burial of 1983.” As the legend goes, the Atari Corporation, faced with overwhelmingly negative response to the E.T. video game, disposed of millions of unsold game cartridges by burying them in the small town of Alamogordo, New Mexico. Fuel Entertainment took an interest in the legend, and in December 2013, with help from local garbage contractor Joe Lewandowski, acquired the exclusive rights to excavate the Alamogordo landfill. Fuel Entertainment then brought the opportunity to Xbox Entertainment Studios. The team will head to the landfill in question to determine if the story is true, interviewing a cast of characters related to the game and its mystery along the way. “Atari: Game Over” is directed by writer/director Zak Penn (“X-Men 2,” “Avengers,” and “Incident at Loch Ness”). It will air exclusively on Xbox One and Xbox 360 in 2014.
“Humans”
“Humans” is a bold new drama co-produced with UK broadcaster Channel 4. Award-winning UK production company Kudos (“The Hour,” “Utopia,” “Broadchurch”) will produce the hour-long, eight-episode series, which will share a premiere broadcast window on the Xbox platform and Channel 4 in the UK in 2015.
Executive produced by Jane Featherstone (“Life on Mars,” “Broadchurch”) and Derek Wax (“The Hour,” “Sex Traffic”), and written by British writing team Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley (“Spooks,” “Spooks: The Greater Good”), “Humans” is an English-language adaptation of Sveriges Television and Matador Film’s acclaimed Swedish series, “Real Humans.” “Humans” is set in a parallel present where the latest must-have gadget for any busy family is a ‘Synth’ – a highly-developed robotic servant eerily similar to its live counterpart. In the hope of transforming the way they live, one strained suburban family purchases a refurbished synth only to discover that sharing life with a machine has far-reaching and chilling consequences. Casting for “Humans” will begin in May 2014, and production will commence later this summer.
“Halo” digital feature
343 Industries and Scott Free Productions are creating a “Halo” digital feature to be released later this year. The project will be executive produced by Ridley Scott and Scott Free TV President, David Zucker. Sergio Mimica-Gezzan (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Pillars of the Earth,” “Heroes”) will direct.
As if that wasn’t enough, We also have some goss on some other Xbox Original programming that is still in the works. Here are some of the shows you will be watching a little further down the track:
“Deadlands”
Xbox Entertainment Studios has committed to a script based on the successful pen-and-paper role playing game created by Shane Lacy Hensley. “Deadlands” is a genre-bending alternative history of the Weird West, filled with undead gunfighters, card-slinging sorcerers, mad scientists, secret societies, and fearsome abominations.
“Extraordinary Believers”
Xbox Entertainment Studios is developing an innovative, hybrid stop-motion show dubbed “Extraordinary Believers” (working title) with Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, creators of the Emmy-Award winning “Robot Chicken,” the longest running stop-motion show on television. The executive producers on the project are Seth Green, Matt Senreich, and creators/writers/executive producers are Eric Towner and John Harvatine IV.
The guys behind this will soon be releasing original content for Xbox
“Fearless”
“Fearless,” (working title) is an unscripted series currently in pilot production starring Paul de Gelder, an Australian Navy bomb clearance diver and shark attack survivor who takes on an adrenaline-fueled quest to aid individuals who risk their lives to make the world a better place. “Fearless” will be produced by Australia’s International Emmy-Award winning production company, Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder (CJZ).
“Gun Machine”
Xbox Entertainment Studios acquired the rights to “Gun Machine,” a hardboiled detective thriller based on the New York Times bestselling novel by Warren Ellis. Ellis will executive produce with Brett Conrad (“The Killing,” “Sons of Anarchy,” Netflix’s upcoming “Marco Polo”) who has signed on to write the pilot script about a detective tracking a serial killer who is tied to a mysterious collection of guns used in infamous New York murders.
Untitled JASH Comedy/Variety Half Hour
In this unique comedy format developed by Xbox Entertainment Studios with JASH (a comedy collective founded by Sarah Silverman, Michael Cera, Tim and Eric and Reggie Watts), the biggest names in comedy will showcase the people that make them laugh. Each week, a different comedian will host/curate a show featuring new and unsung talent, in various video formats. Sarah Silverman will host the pilot episode and Daniel Kellison (“Late Night/Late Show with David Letterman,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Crank Yankers”) will executive produce. The series has a pilot commitment and will begin shooting in June.
“Winterworld”
Xbox Entertainment Studios and IDW Entertainment are co-developing a limited event live-action series based on Chuck Dixon and artist Jorge Zaffino’s seminal graphic novel series “Winterworld,” in which our world has been encased in ice from pole-to-pole. The surviving humans have formed tribes that war, enslave and trade with one another in an effort to survive the infinite winter. Ted Adams and David Ozer from IDW Entertainment, and Rick Jacobs and Dave Alpert from Circle of Confusion (“Walking Dead”) will executive produce.
Out of print for 20 years but on its way to an Xbox near you!
Wow. THAT is a lot coming in the near future. Which of the Xbox Originals are you most looking forward to sitting down and binge-watching? Let us know in the comments below and remember to stay tuned to Capsule Computers for all the Xbox News as it becomes available.
Today Compile Heart teased that they have a “strong announcement” to make on April 30th. This taser was done by the company’s parent company Idea Factory over on Twitter.
Unfortunately further details about the announcement were not given at this time but it is worth noting that since Compile Heart organized the Galapagos label which was designed to create games specifically for the Japanese audience, only one game has been developed under that label and it was Fairy Fencer F for the PlayStation 3. It is highly likely that this announcement will relate to a new game being announced, likely either a sequel to Fairy Fencer F or an original title as two Hyperdimension Neptunia titles were just announced a month ago.
As one would expect, after the release of Madden NFL 25 last year, EA Sports has now announced that they are planning on releasing this year’s iteration of the annual series, this time simply called Madden NFL 15, on August 26th in North America with Australia getting the title on August 28th. Unfortunately for those hoping this release would be devoted entirely for the current-gen consoles, Madden NFL 15 is being released on both current and last-gen consoles meaning it will be released on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 in August.
Details as to what this game will add to the series are thin at the moment, though EA has said that there will be new dramatic camera angles as well as “dynamic pre-game and halftime features,” so for now check out this little preview trailer below.
