JUDE MATHIS AND LEIA ROLANDO RETURN FOR TALES OF XILLIA 2

JUDE MATHIS AND LEIA ROLANDO RETURN FOR TALES OF XILLIA 2

BANDAI NAMCO Games America Inc. today released new assets for TALES OF XILLIA® 2.  The new assets focus on returning characters; Jude Mathis and Leia Rolando, who both befriend the main characters Ludger and Elle as they make their way to the Land of Canaan.  Players will be able to meet up and partner with many returning characters from TALES OF XILLIA® along Ludger and Elle’s journey and learn about their lives over the past year through character specific side stories throughout the game.

Jude Mathis

Much has changed for Jude in the past year. In a world where the schism—which previously divided the worlds of Rieze Maxia and Elympios – has been dispelled at last, Jude toils endlessly in his research of spyrite: an alternative energy source which could replace spyrix and solve Elympios’ energy crisis without the expense of the spirits. If he could perfect it, spyrite could be the key to eliminating the tension between the two worlds and truly uniting their people once and for all—but there are those that would try to stop him.

Leia Rolando

Leia has always been energetic and inquisitive, and this nature of hers has led her to become a reporter for a local newspaper in Elympios, as she aims to promote cultural understanding between the two nations through the articles she writes. Her editor isn’t so easily impressed, however, and she works hard endlessly in pursuit of a story that’ll warm him up to her writing. For better or for worse though, she may get the scoop of a lifetime sooner than she thinks.

TALES OF XILLIA 2 will be available August 19, 2014 throughout the Americas exclusively on the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system.  A TALES OF XILLIA 2 Collector’s Edition is also available for $129.99 and includes the following items: TALES OF XILLIA 2 software, Ludger Kresnik figure, Elle’s PocketWatch replica compact, Rollo plush charm, TALES OF XILLIA 2 music selection CD, TALES OF XILLIA 2 art book and classic TALES OF costume DLC.

TALES OF XILLIA 2 will be playable at the BANDAI NAMCO Games America Inc. E3 meeting room June 10-12, 2014.  For more information about TALES OF XILLIA 2 and the TALES OF series, please visit http://www.bandainamcogames.com, http://www.facebook.com/tales, and http://www.facebook.com/bandainamcous.

‘Linkin Park Recharge – Wastelands’ Is Now Available On The App Store

‘Linkin Park Recharge – Wastelands’ Is Now Available On The App Store

Includes Exclusive Bonus Track “Wastelands”

Hamburg / Los Angeles – 06.06.2014 Hit international rock band Linkin Park today announced the official launch of the 3D action game “Linkin Park Recharge – Wastelands”. Developed in close cooperation with Swiss games company Kuuluu Interactive Entertainment AG, the iPad game is available now on the App Store. With the game, players receive exclusive access to the song “Wastelands” prior to its release on Linkin Park’s album “The Hunting Party” due mid-June.

Linkin Park Recharge – Wastelands is a third person action shooter with tactical elements set in the not too distant future. The Earth is a barren desert. Its people have exhausted all the planet’s natural resources through their insatiable appetite for more. Society and the few remaining energy stores are now under the control of machines, the Hybrids, and an elite minority.

As a member of a specialized resistance unit, the player will fight through hostile territory and complete missions through judicious use of resources. The enemies are the “Hybrids,” a race of genetically engineered bio-mechanical androids who rule over the post-apocalyptic planet. The player will travel through the hostile wastelands on different missions with the aim of depriving the Hybrids of the energy they so badly need. When beaten, some Hybrids will relinquish rare and powerful equipment and valuable crystals, the currency of the Resistance.

Players will put their tactical skills to the test in over 50 missions, and compete against friends to rise up the online leaderboards.

Linkin Park, also appearing as game characters in LP RECHARGE – WASTELANDS, wants to do more than simply entertain. The band is aiming to highlight the problems of energy poverty and promote better management and use of our planet‘s resources. Founded in 2005, the non-profit organization Music For Relief supports victims of natural disasters and projects for clean energy. The Power The World program also aims to help people for whom inadequate energy supply has a negative impact on health, education, safety and general quality of life.

Linkin Park Recharge – Wastelands is available for download on the App Store for the iPad for $2,99. In-App Purchases are available but can be disabled through your iPad settings. The latest version of iOS is recommended.

Crimes & Punishments E3 Trailer Uncovered

crimes-and-punishments-sherlock-holmes-screenshot-04

Ahead of E3 2014 in Los Angeles next week, where Crimes & Punishments will be presented to trade members on the floor, Focus Home Interactive have shared the official E3 trailer for the forthcoming Sherlock Holmes entry. Check it out embedded at the bottom of this article.

Gamers on their Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PC will be able to experience 6 investigations upon release, each teaming with suspects. Identifying which of them is the killer in each case will require gathering and analysing clues gathered at the crime scenes, and obtaining information through interrogations. If your deductions are wrong, either because you were plainly incorrect or did not find sufficient evidence needed to make an educated decision, an innocent man/woman may be condemned and, as can be seen in the trailer below, that can lead to much more tragic outcomes than simply life in jail.

GMT GAMES ANNOUNCES KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN TO BRING Award-winning TWILIGHT STRUGGLE TO PC, Mac, MOBILe and MORe

GMT GAMES ANNOUNCES KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN TO BRING Award-winning TWILIGHT STRUGGLE TO PC, Mac, MOBILe and MORe

HANFORD, CALIF.– June 5, 2014 –  GMT Games, a leading developer of multiple award-winning war games and strategy board games, launched a Kickstarter campaign today to bring the company’s critically acclaimed war strategy board game Twilight Struggle to PC, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS devices.  The company has set a goal of $50,000 to fund development of the digital version of the game. Additionally, the campaign will allow for the creation of additional content, available in both digital and physical versions to Kickstarter supporters.

Twilight Struggle simulates the conflicts between the U.S.A. and the U.S.S.R. during the Cold War era.  Players must spread the influence of the countries throughout the world using actual events of history to rewrite the outcome in their favor. Since its original release in 2005, the game has won nearly a dozen major industry awards, including multiple “Game of the Year” awards from a wide variety of game industry organizations.

“Fans of Twilight Struggle wait no longer. With Playdek’s development and the support of our fans on Kickstarter, we will make our dream of a digital version of Twilight Struggle a reality so fans can play the game whenever, wherever, and with whoever they want,” said Gene Billingsley, Founder, GMT Games. “We know with your strong support we can make this happen.”

Development partner Playdek, known for creating award-winning digital versions of some of the world’s best physical games, will lead the technical side of the project.

“Playdek has established itself as one of the key players in the digital space and is known for the elegance of their User Interfaces, their approach to creating AI, their attention to detail and their dedication to customer satisfaction. As players we are among their admirers,” said Billingsley. “When the opportunity arose to have them create the digital version of Twilight Struggle with us, we were thrilled, honored and really excited. We’re grateful to have the talents and experience of Playdek at our side.”

“Twilight Struggle is a game we know and love at Playdek,” said Joel Goodman, CEO, Playdek. “We support this Kickstarter campaign to help bring this fantastic game to digital platforms to make it more accessible and available to all kinds of gamers. We also know the core fan base has been waiting and with your help we can help GMT reach its goal.”

For Kickstarter backers, GMT has designed a special reward: original Twilight Struggle game designers Ananda Gupta and Jason Matthews have come together once more to create a new expansion for Twilight Struggle called Twilight Struggle: What If? Backers will receive a What If? digital copy, a physical copy, or both depending on backer tier.

Twilight Struggle: What If? is a new mini-expansion that lets players explore alternate starting situations for the two superpowers. What if Chiang’s forces had held on in southern China? What if Churchill’s Tories had won re-election in 1945? And what if the Western Allies had crossed the bridge too far, and reached Berlin first? These and other possibilities that alter the opening setup in Twilight Struggle are now open to players. Both seasoned veterans and new arrivals will enjoy the many new plays and dilemmas introduced here for the first time. This expansion will contain eight cards, one set of charts and tables, and the rules on how to play with the expansion.

Overview

Watch_Dogs has had an interesting journey. First it was announced at E3 2012 and the crowds went wild, then the hype train showed no signs of slowing down and before long it was the most highly anticipated game of 2013… Then it got delayed and gamers began to grow cautious of Ubisoft’s new IP. Well now it is here, and while it may not be the next-generation experience that players were expecting, it is still a fun experience that wears its inspiration on its sleeve.

Watch_Dogs-Screen-03

Story

You would be excused for thinking that Watch_Dogs is a story about Big Brother and a critique on how our reliance on technology is becoming one of our biggest flaws as a society. The game’s opening even leaves you to believe that this is the case, but the concept kind of falls by the wayside by Act II, where it gives way to a plot that features our protagonist in the middle of a gang war through Chicago’s underbelly. It is a little disappointing that Watch_Dogs went for a more generic route with its storytelling, but for the most part it is still an enjoyable cinematic experience.

Aiden Pierce is the star of this tale – a vigilante on a mission. After his niece is killed, he has vowed to find the men responsible and bring them to justice. His weapon of choice is his trusty smart phone in which he can hack his way through any security system or personal account that he can see. Aiden seems to suffer from the same problems that plagues Connor in Assassin’s Creed III in that he really isn’t all that compelling a character. His motives are pretty straight forward, and he feels 2-dimensional and sadly quite forgettable.

watch-dogs-screenshot-04

Gameplay

Watch_Dogs feels like a little bit of a mix between Assassin’s Creed and Grand Theft Auto, with a big emphasis on the latter. While playing I was actually reminded of the old True Crime games. The morality choices, reputation and even the use of vehicles all seemed very reminiscent of those games. Not that this is a bad thing, but it really isn’t something we haven’t seen before.

Missions do have a pretty wide variety and a tonne of ways you can approach them. You can approach missions as a gun-totingmad man, or or by stealthily sneaking your way through like Ezio in Assassin’s Creed. Either way you will utilise your phone to distract enemies, set off explosives, activate environmental traps and other goodies.

The hacking mechanics that form the crux of the game are fun and intuitive, but could have done with some fleshing out. Most of the time you will just be stealing money off pedestrians or changing the colour of traffic lights. You of course unlock more abilities as you progress through the game, but they all operate in the same manner – aim at object you are hacking and press X. There is a lot to be said for simplicity, but I just felt unsatisfied with the whole mechanic.

NPC’s all have a backstory, and aiming your phone at them will give you a brief insight into their life, their income and whether or not you can hack them. I don’t know if I just got unlucky or if it is part of the game, but pretty much every person I tried to hack had some kind of anxiety issue or problem that could send a real-person on a very quick downwards spiral should they have money stolen from their bank account.

watch-dogs-screenshot-03

The true weakness of the game comes in its driving sections. Chicago is a big city and to get around it you will be hijacking a LOT of cars. Doing so feels pretty much exactly like a Grand Theft Auto game, and the comparisons don’t stop there. Aiden can and will be hunted down by the cops, but instead of a star rating, the CPD use a scanner to identify and apprehend criminals. Staying inside the scan range for too long will have a swarm of police cruisers (and helicopters) on you in no time. If you haven’t been identified and are outside the scanning range, a percentage metre will slowly deplete and when it gets to 0% you are free and easy. It is a nice twist on the whole “star rating” system but you can still feel the inspiration oozing out of the game.

watch-dogs-screenshot-01

Visuals & Audio

So there is one thing that Watch_Dogs does unequivocally correct; the sound. Everything from Brian Reitzell’s amazing score to the choice of music that plays through the car audio sounds fantastic. Reitzell has managed to create a score that conveys the game’s sense of dreariness and desperation, while at the same time managing to kick it into high gear should the need arise. Then comes the game’s use of licensed music. The track selection in this game is MASSIVE and covers a massive range of genres. Rap, pop, old school rock and roll, they are all here and they make the city feel alive. This sounds like a real person’s track list that they might have on their iPod, and it just gives a great sense of authenticity to the whole package.

Even the voice acting is great if not occasionally misplaced. Aiden’s dark, almost batman-esq gravelly voice does not fit his babyface at ALL, to the point where it seems like someone has overdubbed the game’s audio like they do in foreign films. Despite this everyone puts on a fantastic performance, and the character models always seem to match up with the dialogue.

As for the visuals themselves, there is no denying that Watch_Dogs is a pretty game. Even with the 900p resolution, the world was still clean and crisp around me. There were some issues of low-definition textures that made the game a little jarring, but considering the scope and size of the world it is easy to overlook these.

Chicago is beautifully recreated here, and if you compare the Watch_Dogs version to the real world city, you will find so many comparisons that it is scary. The unfortunate part is that Chicago is kind of a bland city. Nothing particularly stands out or is attention grabbing. This is something that players are likely to disagree on but for me personally, the realism was actually kind of a bummer.

watch-dogs-screenshot-02

Overall

Watch_Dogs is not a generation-defining game, nor does it bring all that much to the table that we haven’t seen before. Despite all this, Watch_Dogs is still fun. The large open city of Chicago provides a nice grim backdrop to the action, and the hacking mechanics, while not quite fleshed out enough to provide enough of a gameplay change to what we’ve seen before, make it interesting.
