Charizard & Weavile Added to Pokken Tournament Roster

pokken-tournament-charizard-promo-01

In no surprise to anyone, popular Generation 1 mascot Charizard is the latest character to be announced for the as-of-yet Japanese only arcade fighting game, Pokken Tournament. Joining him will be one of the fastest Pokemon in the game, the Dark/Ice type Weavile. Both characters were announced in a recent Japanese stream. You can find trailers for both the new characters as well as the opening movie for the game below. They will be joining Pikachu, Lucario, Suicune, Gardevoir, Machamp and Gengar as the list of confirmed fighters slowly grows.

Charizard is a power based Pokemon that uses powerful physical attacks as well as its ability to breathe fire to cause trouble for it’s opponents. It’s Burst Attack allows it to take the form of Mega Charizard X, which seems to have even more powerful fire related abilities.

Weavile is a speed based Pokemon that seems to use it’s sharp claws to attack quickly and relentlessly. It also seems able to use it’s Ice typing to launch projectiles.

It was also confirmed that Whimsicott and Jirachi will be non-playable support Pokemon. Pokken Tournament is being developed by Bandai Namco who are of course famous for the Tekken series. The game also has an official release date now and will launch in arcades Japan wide on July 16th.

We are hoping a Wii U port will make it’s way to international markets at some point in the future. With the release date so close we don’t expect too many more roster announcements now so that might be it. You can check out our mock roster which has done pretty well so far. We placed Charizard in the included characters list and Weavile in our honorable mentions.

During their panel at Anime Expo Sentai Filmworks announced that they had acquired a number of Summer 2015 anime titles for future release. The first of these titles includes Gate: Jie-tai Ka no Chi ni te, Kaku Tatakaeri, the second season of To Love Ru Darkness, School-Live!, Ushio & Tora, Wakaba Girl, and Aoharu x Machinegun.

Currently Crunchyroll is set to stream all of these series in the United States and Canada though at the moment the only series that has started airing at this point is Gate. Earlier in the day Sentai Filmworks also announced the licensing of both Higurashi – When They Cry, and the classic series The Legend of Galactic Heroes.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes Anime and Higurashi Anime Licensed by Sentai

It seems that fans of the Legend of the Galactic Heroes series will have the best chance to acquire as much of the original material possible in the coming years. Not only has Viz Media announced that they will begin releasing the original novel series starting in spring 2016, but Sentai Filmworks has announced that they have licensed the Legend of the Galactic Heroes anime series.

For those looking for a little something else, Sentai also announced that they had acquired the rights to both seasons of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, also known as Higurashi – When They Cry. This isn’t the first time that someone has tried to release Higurashi – When They Cry in North America, as the series was originally released by FUNimation seven years ago but let the license slip a few years later.

Shingeki no Kyojin: Humanity in Chains Now Available in Europe

attack-on-titan-part-two-screenshot- (4)

Back when Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains was released in North America by Atlus USA the company had to delay the European release of the game due to various issues related with the actual name of the game. Thankfully it seems that the wait wasn’t too bad as today Atlus USA has announced that Shingeki no Kyojin: Humanity in Chains is now available for download on the Nintendo eShop in Europe for €29.99.

Those who purchase the game will be given a special “Attack on Titan” theme that is not available for purchase separately. For those who don’t know what to expect, you can check out the original launch trailer for the title below.

One-Punch Man Anime, Legend of Galactic Heroes Novels, and More Licensed by Viz

one-punch-man-key-art-001Viz Media’s panel at Anime Expo was jam packed with announcements. Not only did the company announce that they had acquired K: Missing Kings and K: Return of Kings but they had a large number of license announcements for both new series as well as older series that people thought never would be revisited. The first announcement has to deal with the One-Punch Man anime series set to debut in October with Viz announcing the licensing of the anime series, fitting considering they also are publishing the manga in English.

The company went on to announce that they are going to be releasing Legend of the Galactic Heroes under their Haikasoru imprint with the first of three volumes scheduled to be released so far, with the first set for spring 2016, though it is worth noting that the company did say that the continuation of the ten volume series would rely on sales to continue from that point on.

Viz Media went on to announce that they had also acquired the rights to Boruto the Movie, which is set to debut in Japanese theaters starting on August 7th, plans to continue the Dragon Ball full-color manga series into the Freeza arc, and that they would be releasing the Death Note anime series on Blu-ray.

Parasyte -the maxim- to air on Toonami in October

parasyte-screenshot-002

While Toonami has seen quite a large number of anime series from FUNimation and Viz Media debuting on the television block since it returned, Sentai Filmworks hasn’t had much of a chance to shine. That changed earlier today when Sentai Filmworks announced at Anime Expo via an ad and later through a press release that they will be debuting Parasyte -the maxim- on Toonami beginning sometime in October.

The twenty four episode series does not yet have a home video release date which means that Parasyte -the maxim- may be debuting on television before fans have a chance to pick up the retail release of the series.
