Transformers: Devastation Gets a New Trailer Full of Gameplay Footage

transformers-devastation-logo-01

I think that title sums it up nicely. Platinum Games have been everywhere as of late, and have released a new trailer for Transformers: Devastation (published by Activision) that shows off the stunning art design as well as the general action packed experience as a whole. Sure, its different from what we typically see for the franchise in video game form, but fans are sure to be happier with this much more tuned in version.

TRANSFORMERS: Devastation brings Hasbro’s converting robot titans to life with classic Generations styling and modern attitude. This new trailer highlights four of the five playable heroes in the game – OPTIMUS PRIME, BUMBLEBEE, SIDESWIPE and WHEELJACK – as well as notorious foes like MEGATRON, STARSCREAM and the towering combiner, DEVASTATOR. Whether leaping into vehicle form to ram enemies at high speed or juggling them in mid-air with a flurry of blinding-fast combos, the dynamic action of TRANSFORMERS: Devastation is so close it’s personal.

Check out the trailer for yourself down below and expect this beast to unfold later this year.

Pillars of Eternity: The White March Part 1 E3 Hands-off Impressions

Pillars-of-eternity-The-White-March-Part 1-screenshot-01

Pillars of Eternity has secured for itself a number of critical accolades upon its release (including mine!) and with a robust high fantasy universe, it’s easy to see why it earned so acclaim. A new expansion developed by Obsidian Entertainment is being released by Paradox Interactive very soon to give players more time to explore the mysteries of Eora. I was able to witness a hands-off demonstration and note a number of features down:

-Combat gameplay largely remains the same with the player able to control each of the characters individually. Combat unfolding in real time with the option to pause.

-New customisable companion AI has been added to ensure that players don’t need to engage in constant micro-management with their party during the melee. I should note that there were a number of hiccups during the presentation with some of the AI companions standing by and doing nothing in the middle of battle but I’m sure this will be fixed by the time the expansion is released. This change will also be applied to the base game so the expansion is not necessary to access this feature.

-Players will now have the option of scouting with a single character rather than telling the entire party, including the chainmail wearing tank, to begin sneaking. This opens up new tactical opportunities.

-Two new companions will be included in the expansion including a mechanical ‘construct’ and a drug addicted monk. They will each bring their own flavour to the action and the narrative.

-More customisability will be available for players with familiar characters with the option to now cross-class. So wizards can finally take chanter talents to become even more useful in combat.

-The level cap will be raised by 2 from 12 to 14 so you’ll have more wiggle room to play around with these new level-up options.

-The UI will also received a bit of an overhaul and this will also be applied to the base game in a patch.

-The expansion will feature more scripted events which will in turn be more dynamic with various factors in the party composition effecting the outcome. In the demo, the party were climbing down into a pit when a heavily armoured party member slips, falls, and takes the rest of the group with him down into the depths.

This only the first part of a two part expansion and with content being about equivalent to Baldur’s Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast (around 20 hours). When exactly the expansion is coming out has not yet been announced but I can quote that the devs said it “comes out soon”.

Crossout E3 Hands-off Impressions

Crossout-screenshot-08

Crossout is a new MMO title, published by Gaijin Entertainment (the same guys who did War Thunder) and developed by Targem Games, it is unlike anything I’ve quite seen before. The game describes itself as a post-apocalyptic, vehicular combat MMO. From what I’ve been able to see, it appears to be an interesting cross between something like World of Tanks and the universe of Mad Max. Having come off the same high as everyone else after watching Fury Road, I was interested to see whether this game could satiate my desire to ride eternal and chrome in Valhalla (WITNESS!)…

From what I’ve been able to see, this game is a mechanic’s dream. Half of it revolves around the actual vehicular combat while the other focusing upon building the death on wheels you’ll be using in the former. The extent to which this game purports to focus upon this aspect of the game is quite interesting with the spokesperson on hand claiming that players will probably spend more time building their rigs than actually driving them.

Crossout-screenshot-07

There is a lot of strategy involved from what I could tell in this aspect of the game with the various attachments and parts you’ll be able to unlock and trade. The physics engine appears to quite well developed with the various alterations affecting the handling and momentum of the vehicle. I’m sure that for some people, the urge to scratch the design itch will be accomplished in this aspect of the game.

What concerns me more, and which is something I still do not know much about, is the vehicular combat itself. From my understanding, the matches will be short with the spokesperson stating that they’ll go for about a couple of minutes. The reason for the short length of matches is that players will only be given one life in each game. Couple that with what they present to be fast gameplay and its easy to see why this would be the case.

Crossout-screenshot-06

I asked them whether the choice of giving players one life would lead to unsatisfying matches but they argued that it would allow players to quickly be able to change their design without having to slog through a match that they were not having fun in. I agree that certainly would be positive, but I’m still unconvinced as to whether matches will be satisfying if I’m only able to play with my carefully crafted machine for a short span of time.

Crossout-screenshot-05

The game will feature localised damage tracking which will mean that as parts of the vehicle take hits, they’ll become less effective before being completely destroyed. This, combined with the previous design options, might effectively mean that players will opt to only play heavily armoured junkers which will have a longer lifespan purely due to the tenacity of their design. Without actually playing the game however, I am unable to comment on how exactly things will play out.

Stay tuned for more Crossout news!

RAIDS LAUNCHED IN AFTERMATH OF RUNESCAPE WORLD EVENT

RAIDS LAUNCHED IN AFTERMATH OF RUNESCAPE WORLD EVENT

Tuska’s defeat rips a portal to the brand new world of Mazcab, where high-level players battle the World Devourer’s remaining minions

Tuesday 14th July 2015, Cambridge, UK – Jagex Games Studio, creators and custodians of the fantasy MMORPG RuneScape, has today introduced a raid mode into the game. The feature – long demanded by the passionate RuneScape community – will see bands of high-level heroes (up to 10 per group) travel to Mazcab, and help its inhabitants battle minions of Tuska – a ‘World Devourer’ god who was defeated in a recent world event, and whose presence shook the game’s main world of Gielinor. An exciting collection of exclusive rewards will be available to players taking part in the raids, including new armour and combat abilities.

Mazcab – a brand new world in the RuneScape universe – is accessed through a portal found on top of Tuska’s carcass, and features additional content alongside the raids and combat encounters with high-level bosses. Visitors will also have the chance to take part in a player vs. player mini-game, explore a procedurally-generated forest that includes further rewards, and complete mini-quests for the planet’s native inhabitants, the goebies.

Mazcab Raids

The new content will include the following:

  • Co-operative combat – High-level player vs. monster content for groups of up to 10 players
  • New world – Explore the world of Mazcab, filled with lore fragments, mini-quests and more
  • Bountiful rewards – Level 90 tank armour, five new tradable abilities, three new titles and three new pets
  • Exclusivity – Mazcab Raids are members-only
  • Raid feats – Battle to complete the toughest challenges and secure the new ‘Daredevil’ title

“We are truly excited to finally bring raids to RuneScape,” said David Osborne, lead designer, RuneScape. “Their introduction brings added depth to the current ‘endgame’ for high-level players, offering up the toughest boss in the game, as well as a raft of great content including mini-quests, exclusive rewards and stacks of other content for our players to engage with.”
