INTRODUCING NEO TOKYO, ROCKET LEAGUE®‘S BIGGEST UPDATE EVER!

Free Update Brings New Arenas, Items, and Improvements Starting June 20

SAN DIEGO, CA – June 10, 2016 – Independent video game developer and publisher, Psyonix, will release an enormous free update for its popular sports-action hybrid, Rocket League®, on Monday, June 20. Packed with tons of new features and content, the latest update will be the largest-ever in the history of the game.

Inspired by the cyberpunk dystopias made popular in the 1980s, the “Neo Tokyo” update will be spearheaded by an arena of the very same name. Originally released as part of the “Rocket Labs” experimental Playlist, Neo Tokyo is a reimagined version of the celebrated multi-tiered stadium, “Underpass,” with streamlined gameplay improvements and a beautiful, highly-detailed environment.

In addition to the fantastic new arena, the Neo Tokyo update also includes:

  • The beginning of “Season 3” for Competitive Playlists, which resets all skill ratings and rewards last season’s players with exclusive Rocket Boosts that reflect their final rank
  • An expanded Item drop system that adds…
    • More than 20 “Rare” and “Very Rare” Item types for online, post-game drops
    • An easy-to-use “Trade In” system that allows players to exchange multiple Items of one rarity type for an even rarer one.
    • New “Painted” Items that offer different color variations on existing Garage favorites like Toppers and Wheels
    • Special “Certified” Items that track specific in-game stats and increase in prestige the higher those stats go
  • New Quick-Chat customization options that expand player choices for fast, in-game communication
  • New Post-Game celebrations that spotlight the winning team and allow them to jump, spin, and boost their car to show off their accomplishments
  • “Pillars,” a new experimental Arena that separates the field into three lanes via two massive walls in the middle of the stadium
  • A new, in-game “Showroom” that allows players to view and purchase all previously-released and future premium DLC
  • Eight new Trophies and Achievements on all three platforms

Following the update, Psyonix will also release two Neo Tokyo-inspired premium cars that will be available first to owners of Rocket League® Collection’s Edition on Friday, June 24 in Europe and Tuesday, July 5 in North America. Known as “Esper” and “Masamune,” the pair of futuristic vehicles will bring a distinctive anime style to Rocket League®s ever-growing collection of playable vehicles. They join the two previously-announced Battle-Cars, “Marauder” and “Aftershock,” as timed exclusives for the retail release.

All four DLC cars will be available for digital purchase worldwide on Monday, July 18 for USD $1.99 per car (or regional equivalent).

Techland Publishing and inXile Entertainment Sign Global Publishing Deal for Torment: Tides of Numenera

Techland Publishing and inXile Entertainment Sign Global Publishing Deal for Torment: Tides of Numenera

June 10th, 2016 – Wroclaw, Poland/ Techland Publishing is proud to announce its collaboration with inXile Entertainment to globally publish the retail version of Torment: Tides of Numenera. The science-fantasy RPG is scheduled for a PC release in the first quarter of 2017.

Developed by inXile Entertainment, the renowned studio led by industry icon Brian Fargo, Torment: Tides of Numenera is the first title announced by Techland as part of its move into the international games publishing. Furthermore, the boxed edition of the game will be enhanced with a number of physical and digital bonuses that will ease players into the unique world of Numenera and further increase their immersion in the story.

‘I’ve been impressed with Techland and am pleased to be collaborating with them’ – says Brian Fargo, inXile Entertainment CEO. ‘Bringing a game of such scope and depth to the international market is a major undertaking, and we wanted to be sure we partnered with professionals who knew how to cater to the global community. Techland has been a great partner and their track record has convinced us they are the people we want to have at our side.’

Torment: Tides of Numenera is the highly-anticipated thematic successor to one of the best RPGs of all time – Planescape: Torment. The game has already amassed a dedicated following as shown by it being one of the three most-funded Kickstarter games to date. Bringing back the golden era of RPGs, the game features a deep, thematically satisfying story set in a world unlike any other – Earth a billion years in the future. On top of a thought-provoking narrative and a novel take on turn-based combat, Torment: Tides of Numenera offers hundreds of meaningful, game-changing choices that ensure no playthrough is ever the same.

Key features:

  • A World Unlike Any Other — journey across the Ninth World, a fantastic, original setting, with awe-inspiring visuals, offbeat and unpredictable items to use in and out of battle, and stunning feats of magic.
  • A Rich, Personal Narrative — thoughtful and character-driven, the story is epic in feel but deeply personal in substance. The philosophical underpinnings of Torment drive the game both mechanically and narratively.
  • Reactivity, Replayability and the Tides — your choices matter, and morality in the Ninth World is not a simple matter of “right” and “wrong”. Torment is a deeply replayable experience that arises naturally from your actions throughout the game.
  • A New Take on Combat — plan your way through hand-crafted set-pieces which combine battles with environmental puzzles, social interaction, stealth, and more.

Frontwing Launches Indiegogo Campaign for Corona Blossom

corona-blossom-logo

Back in March Frontwing announced that they were beginning plans to bring the visual novel Corona Blossom over to English audiences sometime in the future. Now the company has launched an Indiegogo campaign in order to help fund their localization of the title. The company is aiming to earn $30,000 by the end of the campaign and at the moment they have earned $16,426 with 22 days left. It is worth noting that since the campaign is on Indiegogo, even if the goal isn’t fully reached the company will still receive the funds that have been raised.

Those who wish to back the game and read more about Corona Blossom can do so on the campaign page. There they will find that $7 will secure themselves a Steam Key for the digital version of the PC game and that for $15 they will secure not only a key for the episode, but also the ability to download a 18+ patch that will add in all of the adult content that had to be censored to get the title onto Steam.

corona-blossom-screenshot-001

This means that there will be adult scenes and no censorship and those who opt for a physical copy of the game will automatically be given the adult version. It is worth noting that when the first episode of Corona Blossom is released on Steam, it will be priced at $10 with the patch costing an extra $10, so those interested in the title can currently back at these tier levels for an “early bird” discount.

Omega Force Teasing “Most Brutal Title in Musou History” for June 13th

omega-force-teaser-002

Koei Tecmo has launched a fresh new teaser site for Omega Force and unlike many of their past games, it seems this one will be a bit bloodier than the rest. I say this because not only does the teaser site have a message stating that the game is “The most brutal title in Musou (Warriors) history” but also the fact that the developer’s logo is also bleeding in the teaser website.

At the moment very few can guess as to what the title will be about but it does state that the full reveal will occur during E3 2016 on June 13th.

Black Rose Valkyrie Opening Movie Released

Black-Rose-Valkyrie-screenshot-012

With Black Rose Valkyrie set to be released in about a month and a half in Japan, Compile Heart has chosen to release the opening movie for the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive RPG. The theme song for the game is titled “Duality” and is performed by Sayaka Sasaki.

For those who haven’t been following the game, Black Rose Valkyrie is set in a world where an unknown virus from a huge meteorite has begun to spread through humanity. By infecting humans and consuming their flesh, these “chimera” are given enhanced intelligence and strength and have caused a global pandemic.

Black-Rose-Valkyrie-screenshot-013

In order to prevent the virus from entering the country they have isolated themselves from the outside world and have formed the Special Force Valkyrie force to counter any rising threat. The lead character, Asashi Shiramine, is chosen as the commanding officer and after defeating a force of Chimera while on his way to the base with his new troops, the group proves to be exceptionally powerful, unfortunately strength won’t prevent the harsh reality and betrayal that awaits them.

Gwent: The Witcher Card Game Trademarked by CD Projekt Red

gwent-the-witcher-card-game-logo

Although CD Projekt Red has stated that they are currently done with The Witcher series, it seems like they aren’t done with at least one aspect of The Wild Hunt that became incredibly popular. I’m talking about the card game Gwent of course and it seems that the company is looking to expand the in-game card game into a separate game on its own.

The EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) recently went online with a new trademark for a title called “Gwent: The Witcher Card Game” accompanied by a fitting logo. Currently it is unknown if this trademark is for an actual spin-off game that will be available on consoles in some form, something for smartphones, or even a table top version but we will have to wait and see at least until next week when E3 kicks off.

Minecraft: Education Edition Early Access Kicks Off

minecraft-education-edition-promo-shot-001Microsoft and Mojang announced that the Minecraft: Education Edition early access program is kicking off today ahead of the official launch in September. This version has incorporated a lot of the feedback provided by over 2000 educators and students during the beta period this past May. The current build includes the following features:

  • Easy Classroom Collaboration: enables students to collaborate together to build projects and solve problems – with an entire classroom of up to 30 students playing in a world together without a separate server required.
  • Camera and Portfolio: students are able to collect evidence of learning in the game to demonstrate their progression.  The camera and portfolio features allow students to take screenshots of their work and document the development of their projects.
  • Non-Player Characters: An educator may create an NPC (Non-Player Character) to act as a guide for students in the game, giving instruction, providing more information, and also allowing educators to insert an active web link to additional references.
  • Chalkboards:  Similar to an NPC, educators can use chalkboards to communicate learning goals, provide information, give explicit instructions, or challenge students with problems to solve within the game.
  • Simple, Secure Sign-in:  Individual student and teacher logins help identify each player in the game, and ensure data privacy & security while playing Minecraft: Education Edition.
  • Tutorial World: For educators or students new to Minecraft, a tutorial world is available that will guide players on in-game navigation, crafting, and placing and breaking blocks.

The early access program is absolutely free for interested participants. Interested educators can check out the lesson plans developed by Microsoft to get some inspiration on how to incorporate Minecraft into their classrooms. There are lesson plans for students in grade school all the way into high school.
