Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., 2K and Firaxis Games Partner with GlassLab Inc., to Bring CivilizationEDU to High Schools Throughout North America in 2017

Beloved history-inspired, turn-based strategy series that has captivated generations for 25 years, to help engage students and improve key 21st century skills

New York, NY – Jun 23, 201613th Annual Games for Change Festival announced a partnership with GlassLab Inc., a nonprofit learning company, to bring a modified version of Sid Meier’s Civilization V to high schools in North America in the fall of 2017. Developed by Firaxis Games, Sid Meier’s Civilization V has sold-in more than 8 million units worldwide, was one of the most critically acclaimed PC games of 2010, and earned numerous awards and accolades. CivilizationEDU will provide students with the opportunity to think critically and create historical events, consider and evaluate the geographical ramifications of their economic and technological decisions, and to engage in systems thinking and experiment with the causal/correlative relationships between military, technology, political and socioeconomic development.

In addition, GlassLab Inc. will add a learning analytics engine to CivilizationEDU to capture students’ progress and assess their problem-solving skills – harnessing the popularity and innovation of interactive entertainment and turning it into a powerful tool for the classroom and alternative to standardized tests. Teachers who use CivilizationEDU will have access to an online dashboard that will provide reports on students’ progress, demonstrating how in-game accomplishments relate to problem solving; developer diaries; gameplay tutorial videos, and instructional resources, including an in-depth gameplay guide and lesson plans aligned to academic and 21st century standards.

“We are incredibly proud to lend one of our industry’s most beloved series to educators to use as a resource to inspire and engage students further,” said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two. “Civilization has challenged millions of people around the world to revisit and experience history, pursue boldly exploration, and create their own societies based on their passions and freedom of choice. I can’t think of a better interactive experience to help challenge and shape the minds of tomorrow’s leaders.”

“For the past 25 years, we’ve found that one of the fun secrets of Civilization is learning while you play,” added Sid Meier, Founder and Director of Creative Development at Firaxis Games. “We’ve always focused on entertainment first, but we believe that our players – young and old – enjoy learning, even if they don’t always enjoy education. Civilization players find fun in discovering new civilizations, running into famous historical leaders, and charting their own version of human history.  Along the way, players learn valuable lessons from their success and failures and are able to try again, employing different choices and strategies. We’re absolutely thrilled to be partnering with GlassLab and I am excited to see CivilizationEDU in classrooms next year.”

“Education today too often focuses on what can be measured, rather than what young people need to know. CivilizationEDU is a perfect example of how games can be used to teach and assess key 21st century skills that are hard to measure on multiple-choice tests,” said Connie Yowell, CEO of Collective Shift and its global learning movement LRNG, which is merging with GlassLab. “We’re thrilled to offer CivilizationEDUas part of GlassLab’s collection of games for next generation learning. This beloved game is an important addition to the rich learning resources the LRNG ecosystem offers online, in classrooms, and through the communities that are participating in the LRNG Cities movement.”

“Video games are today’s most dynamic and compelling art form in the world, and its ability to captivate and engage audiences of all ages is unparalleled,” concluded Michael D. Gallagher, President and CEO, Entertainment Software Association. “Our industry defines the intersection of creativity and technology, and we are increasingly finding unique ways in which we can transcend entertainment to enhance our society for the long-term. The potential influence of CivilizationEDU in the American classroom is another illustration of that promise.”

CivilizationEDU will be available for download in 2017 from specialized partners Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, SMS Tech Solutions, Edmodo and Learning.com, in addition to other distributors. For more information, please visit www.glasslabgames.org.

NECROPOLIS COLLECTOR’S EDITION NOW AVAILABLE FOR PREORDER

BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America Inc. & Harebrained Schemes Team Up with iam8bit to release NECROPOLIS Collector’s Edition

Los Angeles, Calif., (June 23rd, 2016)  — BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America Inc. announced today that they, along with Harebrained Schemes, the creators of the Shadowrun Returns series and recently announced BATTLETECH PC games, have partnered with iam8bit to birth a beautiful Collector’s Edition for the diabolical dungeon delve, NECROPOLIS.  The NECROPOLIS Collector’s Edition will be available on all platforms. NECROPOLIS will be published on Steam by Harebrained Schemes on July 12th.  BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America, Inc., will be publishing the Playstation®4 computer entertainment system and Xbox One versions of the games later this summer.

The NECROPOLIS Collector’s Edition is available today for preorder for $50 via the iam8bit store, and is a Vinyl Soundtrack that includes a game code to the full game and many game-inspired items, including:

  • Game Code* (Steam, PlayStation 4 system, Xbox One)
  • Full Digital Soundtrack*
  • Customizable Death Certificate
  • 180-gram Transparent Blue Vinyl Soundtrack
  • Gatefold Vinyl Jacket that is an actually a playable Tabletop Game!

*Full Game and Digital Soundtrack Codes to be sent via email a day before the platform’s release date that you purchased*

NECROPOLIS combines third-person 3D action with Rogue-lite permadeath dungeon delving for a game that’s fast-paced and addictive, yet diabolically hardcore. Those elements are married with the game’s striking art style, sardonic tone, and 4-player drop-in/drop-out co-op mode.

You play as a nameless adventurer attempting to escape a living, magical dungeon that reconstructs itself each time you play, with only one way out – down. Craft, equip, explore, and fight to stay alive as you delve deeper and face ever-greater threats in the twisting halls and endless chasms of the NECROPOLIS. Have no doubt; you’re going to die – often! – but you’ll improve your combat skills, available upgrades, and dungeon know-how with every playthrough, bringing you one step closer to the exit.

“It’s clear from the cool vinyl record and badass album cover doubling as a Tabletop Game that iambit gets Harebrained Schemes,” said Mitch Gitelman, Harebrained Schemes Studio Head. “We’re excited to offer a NECROPOLIS Collector’s Edition for those discriminating players who want to take death to the next level.”

Additional Details about each of the NECROPOLIS Collector’s Editions feature:

NECROPOLIS Game Code – A digital download code for the full-version of NECROPOLIS on your choice of platform is included with every vinyl order (Steam, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One). Codes will be distributed via email in advance of the game’s release date on their respective console.

Soundtrack – composed by Jon Everist (Shadowrun: Dragonfall, Shadowrun: Hong Kong, BattleTech) and pressed onto 180-Gram transparent blue vinyl. As with all iam8bit music releases, this collection is mastered specifically for optimal vinyl audio quality. The full soundtrack will also be available to each purchaser via digital download, with redemption codes sent via email.

Pen-and-Paper Dungeon Crawler – The album art doubles as a classic D&D-style game, including an instruction sheet and player piece. Players beware – it’s nearly impossible to navigate the maze without dying, but those who do will revel in the hard won bragging rights of success.

Album Art – designed by Steve Courtney, this unique cover pays homage to the punishing, maze-like architecture of the game. In addition to its engrossing artwork, the jacket features an embossed logo and a die-cut Brazen Head pupil that reveals a pop of fluorescent color beneath (on the sleeve).

Death Certificate – In keeping with the tone of permadeath punishment in NECROPOLIS, a fancy, fully customizable Death Certificate is included.

STUDIO WILDCARD THINKS SIZE MATTERS AND DELIVERS A SKYSCRAPER-SIZED TITANOSAUR, GIANT REDWOODS, AND THE BIGGEST STEAM  DISCOUNT EVER

Seattle, WA – June 23, 2016 – Studio Wildcard, the studio that never sleeps, is going big today in every way possible with its online dinosaur survival experience, ARK: Survival Evolved! Available to all Steam ARK players starting now, update v243 is packed with features including the opening of the stunning Redwood Forest Biome, a major extension of the Snow Biome, and new structures featuring Ewo… well uh…tree-top villages with furry creatures. In fact, there are dozens more features in this update, from Gas Masks, to Rope Ladders, Tree-House Platforms, Sap Taps, and much more.

The biggest delivery? The Titanosaur, a gargantuan creature that is among the largest ever in a multiplayer action game – slowly roams the ARK and is neither friend nor foe. Whichever Tribes can successfully tame the beat can gain a massive benefit to their forces.

Best of all ARK Survivor wanna-be’s can now purchase the ultimate dinosaur survival game for 45% off the retail price (regular $29.99, now $16.49 for a limited time) during the Steam Summer sale, running today through 10 am, Monday, July 4!
Watch the new showcase video on YouTube HERE: www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVw2vd4h0ho

The extremely rare Titanosaur (Titanosaurus Vagacastrum) is the largest creature found on ARK island, operating for many players as a mobile superfortress capable of ferrying obscene amounts of weight, structures, defenses and creatures upon its back. Essentially a walking mountain, this herbivore often crushes creatures and buildings within its path and takes issue with any creature invading his personal space.

The Redwood Biome is an all-new biome filled with lush, giant trees sturdy enough in which to build treehouses and villages. Harvest lumber from these gigantic arbors to create your fortress super high up in the air. Take refuge among the Redwood trees with new Wood and Metal Tree Platforms! Live like a Furry Forest Creature in these massive trees! Tap into the massive redwoods to extract their sap for healthy concoctions using the new Tree Sap Taps. Reach new heights with the Retractable Rope Ladders. Extend or retract these flimsy ladders, which are good for letting allies onto your ramparts while keeping the enemy out. There is a whole new way of life to explore! Littered throughout the Redwood and expanded Snow biomes are new ruins, which in future updates will contain collectible story notes about the history of ARK.

New ARK Content Includes:

  • New Item: The Chain Bola ammo for ballista turret! Bring huge creatures to their knees, temporarily, by entangling them in these gigantic metal bolas.
  • New Item: Gas Mask! Avoid diseases and poisonous gas with this protective breathing apparatus.
  • New Item: Herbivore “TastyCakes”
  • New Structure: Retractable Rope Ladders! Extend or retract these flimsy ladders, good for letting allies onto your ramparts while keeping the enemy out.
  • New Structure: Tree Sap Taps! Slowly extract valuable syrup from the great redwoods for use in a variety of new recipes.
  • New Mechanic: Custom Tripwire Alarm Notifications via SurviveTheArk.com (E-mail and Forum). Optionally Tribes can post to arbitrary URL, if they have a custom system! Now if someone’s raiding your base, you can get on top of it!
  • GroundClutter effect extended 50% further and +20% more GPU efficiency
  • Balled Doed’s are no longer invincible to Tamed Dino melee attacks — now just very, very resistant to them.
  • Magnifying Glass now displays creature Torpor stats (on Wild creatures too).
  • Tribe Alliances now disabled in Offline Raid mode (too complex to determine if anyone in an Alliance is around), C4/Traps can no longer be placed near Offline-Raid Protected Structures, and Offline-Raid mode now forces all Structures to be Lockable so that players can “Lock” Crop Plots to prevent their turrets from being disabled.
  • New Server Option: “?PreventTribeAlliances=true” to prevent tribe alliances
  • Engagement with Wild Naturally-Fleeing & Small creatures (tiny bugs etc) no longer trigger combat music
  • Tamed Dinos that are following a submerged allied Target will not attempt to float to the surface of the water, but rather will attempt to stay at the depth of their allied Target. (helpful when deliberately going deep-diving your tamed land Dinos). However, Dinos that are capable of suffocating will try to surface if they are out of Oxygen regardless!
  • Vaults can no longer be dropped onto saddle platforms
  • Transfer-All/Drop-All methods now only drop/transfer what is currently disabled in the inventory, respecting any filters/folders you may have active (so for example, if you’re within a folder, it will only transfer those items, or if you have a text filter active, etc).
  • Fixed an issue where pillars were not being calculated correctly as foundations when building pillars downwards
  • Massive +33% rendering gains with any translucent rendering (particles, greenhouse windows, etc).
