Harald Hardrada leads Norway in Civilization VI

Harald Hardrada leads Norway in Civilization VI

2K and Firaxis Games today revealed that Harald Hardrada will lead Norway in Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, launching on Oct 21st for Windows PC.

New to the Civilization series and leading Norway is the last Great Viking King Harald Hardrada.

Norway’s eventual king wasn’t always close to the throne. Exiled from his native land in 1030 after supporting his half-brother Olaf’s failed campaign, Hardrada sought refuge in Kievan Rus and later, Constantinople. Being a highly skilled warrior, he climbed the ranks of the Varangian Guard, earning the nickname “Devastator of the Bulgarians” after quelling an uprising.

In 1042 he returned to Norway and skillfully maneuvered his way into joint kingship with Magnus I. After Magnus’ passing, the now sole ruler of Norway warred with Sweyn, King of Denmark, in 1048 until 1064 before settling peacefully. He then attempted to claim the throne of England, perishing during the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066.

Hardrada’s reign was marked by war, but also by great progress. Peace flourished as Norway was unified under a strong government, new currency, external trade, and religious advancement.

Last week it was announced that Koei Tecmo‘s Gust would be partnering with Toei Animation for a “major project” that would be revealed on September 16th but the company decided to at least reveal what it is ahead of time. The project is called Kakuchou Shoujokei Trinary, or Expansion Girl Style Trinary, and is a combination between a new anime that will be previewed on the 16th as well as a smartphone game. The company is trying to create an “anime cross link RPG” that is a “never before seen fusion of video game and anime” where the “reality” on the other side of the screen are girls that fight in special missions.

Not too much is known about the game/anime so far other than that it takes place in a Tokyo-like area of Japan where five heroines, shown above, must combat a strange situation that arises in the city though we will know more on the 16th when the anime is previewed and more details are likely revealed.

Over the course of the first four episodes of Hitman‘s episodic release we’ve visited exotic locations like Paris, Bangkok, and Sapienza but it seems the company is saving the best for last by dropping Agent 47 in the middle of nowhere Colorado. To be fair, Square Enix has detailed that the mission this time around, titled “Freedom Fighters” is going to be the most difficult of the bunch as players must Colorado farm compound that has been converted into a private militia training camp.

This will be an intense infiltration mission to locate and take out four targets with each target having their own specialist skillset ranging from environmental terrorism to chemical interrogation. With the very second players step onto the field placing them into enemy territory this “key episode” will also deliver “huge story revelations” as the series comes to a climax when the episode is released on September 27th.
