First Official eSports League Operated by U.S. Professional Sports League Set for 2018 Debut

NEW YORK, Feb. 9, 2017 – The National Basketball Association (NBA) and Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:TTWO) today announced plans to launch the NBA 2K eLeague, a new, professional competitive gaming league that will bring together the best basketball gamers in the world.  This marks the first official eSports league operated by a U.S. professional sports league.

Set to debut in 2018, this groundbreaking competitive gaming league will consist of teams operated by actual NBA franchises.  The founding teams, each composed of five professional eSports players who will play the game as user-created avatars, will be announced in the coming months.  The NBA 2K eLeague will follow a professional sports league format: competing head-to-head throughout a regular season, participating in a bracketed playoff system, and concluding with a championship matchup.

Musou Stars’ Plachta, Naotora Ii, and Zhou Cang Introduced in Latest Trailers

Koei Tecmo is taking a look back at some of their previously announced characters for Musou Stars with their latest batch of character trailers. I say this because we’ve known that Plachta, Naotora Ii, and Zhou Cang would be available as playable warriors in the game for quite some time now but the company only just got around to releasing gameplay trailers for each of these fighters.

For those who haven’t heard of these fighters Plachta is from Atelier Sophie, Naotora Ii is from Samurai Warriors, and Zhou Cang is an upcoming Dynasty Warriors fighter. You can check out the videos below and as for the game itself, Musou Stars is set to be released on March 30th in Japan for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita.

Halo Wars 2 Launch Trailer Focuses on Story

Halo Wars 2 might not be coming out for a couple more weeks but Microsoft has released their launch trailer for the game early in an effort to get RTS fans and Halo fans excited about the upcoming release. This video is light on the gameplay front but focuses heavily on the story aspect of the game which will place players in charge of Spirit of Fire and its remaining crew as they find themselves facing off against a brand new enemy that even the Covenant couldn’t bring under their reign.

Known as the Banished and led by the ruthless Brute Atriox, players must fight to survive against when the game is released on the Xbox One and PC on February 21.

18 Competitors From 17 Countries Will Compete to Become the Just Dance 2017 World Champion

SYDNEY, Australia. February 9, 2016 —Ubisoft® has revealed the latest details on the Just Dance® World Cup (JDWC) 2017 Finals, occurring February 17-19, 2017 during the eSports World Convention (ESWC) Winter) in Paris*. For the third year, Ubisoft is partnering with ESWC, a pioneering and leading international eSports event organization, to welcome the 18 worldwide Just Dancers who won the qualifying rounds of JDWC 2017. Finalists will perform choreography from Just Dance® 2017 and Just Dance® Unlimited, including party favorite tracks like “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” by Beyoncé, “Hips Don’t Lie” by Shakira Ft Wyclef Jean, “Bailar” by Deorro Ft. Elvis Crespo and classics like “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen or “Walk This Way” by Run-DMC & Aerosmith.

The Just Dance World Cup 2017 winner will have a rare opportunity to visit the Ubisoft Paris studio for one week, to meet the team and work with the developers, costume designers, choreographers and dancers on a special song that will be created and integrated into the game through Just Dance Unlimited for the next JDWC.

With ages from 13 to 31 years old, participants hail from different countries around the globe including Australia’s very own entrant Just Denz “Denzal”, but are united in their passion for Just Dance. The two-time World Champion Diegho San, from Brazil, will defend his title in front of thousands of live spectators and fans and millions more online. During the three days of the JDWC, players will face off in a series of best-of-three matches to advance to the next round. Both the player’s game score and a jury of Just Dance and choreography experts will ultimately decide who takes the trophy home this year.

The list of JDWC 2017 finalists is the result of 10 online and four live qualifiers[i] that took place all over the world from September 29, 2016 to January 29, 2017[ii].

This year, the online qualifiers in the World Dancefloor mode on next-gen consoles reached a record with an 83% increase in online participation compared to the 2016 Just Dance World Cup[iii]. This promising participation rate supports Just Dance’s ambition to unite worldwide competitors with Just Dancers, in an effort to democratize eSports for all.

New World and Focus Home Interactive Partnering for Insurgency: Sandstorm

New World Interactive announced that they are partnering with publisher Focus Home Interactive to release the Insurgency sequel. Entitled Insurgency: Sandstorm, the game uses the new Unreal Engine 4 and expands on the intense infantry combat the series has been known for. Players can expect larger environments that will support door breaches. Light vehicles are being added to make the most of the larger maps. The vehicles will serve as transportation and fire support for players. The ballistic system will be improved to add bullet drop and travel time.

For the first time in the series, Insurgency: Sandstorm will have a single player campaign. The story stars a female Yazidi Kurd who was formerly enslaved by radical insurgents. After escaping captivity, she joins the rebel forces until she decides to leave with her best friend to embark on a personal quest. Along the way, the two pick up an American war veteran and a French citizen who has never experienced war. New World sees the story as an indie road trip movie through the Middle East.

Insurgency: Sandstorm is set to hit PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2018.
