The Blackout Club Revealed: Co-Op Horror for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC in Q1 2019

The Blackout Club Revealed: Co-Op Horror for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC in Q1 2019

Next Project from Senior BioShock, Dishonored Devs

TIBURON, CA – 29 Feb. 2018 – Question™, a team of industry veterans including the Creative Director and Lead Writer of BioShock 2, the Senior Gameplay Programmer of Dishonored, and the Lead Effects Artist for BioShock Infinite, has unveiled its next title. The Blackout Club, a cooperative paranormal horror mystery, steps into the light in Q1 2019 across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Set in a small town with a monstrous secret, The Blackout Club follows a group of teens who band together after learning they’ve all been temporarily losing consciousness – waking up in strange places with no memory of what they have done. Recently, one of their closest friends vanished entirely. When none of their parents, teachers, or even the police are willing to believe them, the friends launch an investigation. Together they will discover a maze of tunnels – a hostile underworld filled with hypnotic music and populated by a clandestine group of adults – all beneath their seemingly idyllic suburbs.

To save their community and themselves, the teens will need to capture the conspiracy on camera and prove its existence to the world. Up to four players will sneak out of their homes and go on surveillance missions filled with procedurally-generated elements including variable objectives, enemy encounters, loot drops, and more. Every night will be a different adventure as the team seeks out additional clues and explores new parts of their neighborhood and its ominous underbelly. The club must trust no one as they get closer to finding out what happened to their missing friend — and the cause of their uncontrollable blackouts.

Surviving the dangers of night will require intelligence, improvisation, and skill. Sleepwalking adults that could be their neighbors or relatives now seek to drag them underground. Players must create and coordinate diversions and use other tactics to break the enemy’s vice-like grip. The last player left standing must avoid attracting the attention of an even more dangerous entity – one that pursues its prey relentlessly – one that can’t be seen with open eyes…

Player characters will be customizable with a variety of powers and equipment loadouts. Every member of the group will play a distinct role and utilize devices like drones or deployable traps to outwit their foes and gather evidence of their crimes. When the mission is complete, players will head back to the hideout, where they can level up and acquire new abilities for use on future outings.

“In The Blackout Club, the horror genre comes home,” said Jordan Thomas, Co-Founder, Question LLC. “Our story is about vulnerable heroes — for whom co-op gameplay is a matter of survival — who unite to save their friends. We love expressive systems, where you shape the game experience as you see fit, often versus a whole ecosystem of intelligent threats. And now, they’re right next door – in a familiar, modern town, where the monster wears a human face. We can’t wait for you to meet it.”

The Blackout Club releases in Q1 2019. Explore the official website, follow the game’s updates on Twitter or Instagram, and like the Facebook page for updates on The Blackout Club.

PETER MOLYNEUX’S THE TRAIL: FRONTIER CHALLENGE VENTURES ONTO THE NINTENDO SWITCH

PETER MOLYNEUX’S THE TRAIL: FRONTIER CHALLENGE VENTURES ONTO THE NINTENDO SWITCH

The Deeply Strategic and Innovative PC Game Launches Exclusively on the Switch

San Francisco (February 28th, 2018) – Kongregate, a leading publisher of mobile, PC, and web games, reteams with 22cans to launch The Trail: Frontier Challenge on the Nintendo Switch! Imagined by industry legend Peter Molyneux, creator of Black & White and the “God Game” genre, 22cans is bringing the popular PC game, with touch controls, to console for the first time.

The Trail: Frontier Challenge is an innovative and exploration-driven simulation game — taking players on a massive journey through the beautiful and expansive American wilderness. After choosing a character, players will throw on a backpack and embark on a stunning adventure through mountains and forests, collecting items to craft and trade with, while avoiding exhaustion from their travels. As they amass fortune and notoriety, they will work with others around the globe to build a thriving community and ultimately become the leader of the most successful town in the new American frontier.

“The Nintendo Switch is a fantastic platform and one that is perfectly suited for The Trail: Frontier Challenge,” said Peter Molyneux, Creative Director, 22cans. “Whether players are relaxing at home, or off on their own travels, there’s a completely immersive and beautiful experience to pick up and play.”

The Trail: Frontier Challenge includes more strategy and challenges than ever before. Weather affects player progress in challenging and sometimes unpredictable ways. Extreme cold requires additional food, while muddy terrain can slow progress, but players can craft improved clothing & gear to receive various buffs to help counteract these effects. After reaching Eden Falls, travelers will have the opportunity to build a home as one of 5 professions: Explorer, Hunter, Lumberjack, Cook, or Tailor. Each profession has its own skill tree to progress through and can only be truly mastered when every skill is unlocked. Touch controls in portable mode have been added exclusively for the Switch release.

“Developing for the Switch has been a new and exciting process for our team,” said Emily Greer, co-founder and CEO of Kongregate. “The Trail is a perfect debut Switch title for us; it’s family-friendly and easy to put down and pick back up again. We think Switch players will really enjoy being able to take their cinematic adventure with them anywhere they go.”

Players can embark on their epic journey along an unexplored frontier in The Trail: Frontier Challenge beginning today in Europe and starting March 8 in the Americas on the Nintendo Switch ($14.99), rated E for Everyone. You can find additional information about the game on the official Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Make Puny Heroes Fear You in Iratus: Lord of the Dead

Make Puny Heroes Fear You in Iratus: Lord of the Dead

Raise the Dead, Rule the World

St. Petersburg, February 28th, 2018 – Villainy has a new name, and that name is Iratus: Lord of the Dead. Taking the villainous tone of Dungeon Keeper and the strategic style of Darkest Dungeon, this new game by Unfrozen lets players revel in true evil as they plan for domination.

Iratus: Lord of the Dead tells the story of a dark necromancer on a quest for vengeance. After many years dead, he has risen from the grave to reign terror on a world that has grown too comfortable for his liking. Finally ready to strike, gamers will take up his grisly (if sardonic) mantle and rebuild an army to defeat the pesky heroes that have taken residence underground.

“As you can tell, we were heavily inspired by our love for turn-based strategy games, we love dark humor and so set out to create a darkest dungeon meets dungeon keeper experience,” Said Denis Fedorov, lead developer at Unfrozen Studios. “We wanted to create something that was unique but familiar at the same time and so we created a combat system that on the surface players will be right at home with but once in, you’ll see things you were expecting and unique twists thoughout the mechanics.”

Iratus adds plenty of challenge to the classic turn-based combat system. Each fight is highly strategic, making every action in a battle matter. Debuffs, minion types, even movement will impact a fight for better or worse. Failure results in permanently destroyed minions, so players will need to think through every fight to hold onto valuable resources. The combat system is designed to avoid repetitive battles that are common to the genre and instead focus on unique strategic experiences and tactical situations that differ as your progress.

Because Iratus’s minions are undead, players now possess the means to affect morale meters that burdened them in other games. Depending on the monster and their abilities, they can lower the morale of the heroes they fight. If their morale is past the breaking point, enemies might flee the fight or even die from fear.

While heroes are renowned for the loot they’d collect in other RPGs, Iratus is only interested in their corpses. Collecting body parts from fallen enemies allows him to create various undead minions to fight in his name, such as Skeletons, Zombies, Vampires, and Banshees. This morbid crafting, along with Iratus’s other necromantic powers in Alchemy, Magic, and Tactics, will level up as Iratus re-remembers his powers and reestablishes his domain over death itself.

Iratus: Lord of the Dead will come to Steam on Early Access in Q2, 2018.

Key Features

  • Develop and improve your belowground lair with necromantic powers.
  • Craft undead minions with the body parts of dead enemies.
  • Advanced fighting system: Know your enemies’ strong points and weak spots to achieve victory.
  • Turn-based battle system with upward of 50 original minion’s talents.

Rogue-like Tabletop RPG, For The King, Comes Out Of Early Access In April, Heads To Console In 2019, Finds Home With Publisher Curve Digital

Rogue-like Tabletop RPG, For The King, Comes Out Of Early Access In April, Heads To Console In 2019, Finds Home With Publisher Curve Digital

For the King is a unique blend of top-down strategy, turn-based JRPG-inspired combat and rogue-like gameplay systems

London, United Kingdom – February 28th, 2018 – Award-winning publisher Curve Digital, has partnered with IronOak Games to publish For the King, a rogue-like RPG adventure which sees players journey into procedurally generated levels to avenge their recently murdered King.

To celebrate the one year launch anniversary on Steam Early Access, IronOak Games has revealed For The King will move into a full release this April – and that PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch versions of the game will release in early 2019.

For The King is the first game from IronOak Games in Vancouver, Canada, formed in 2015 by a team of industry veterans who’ve previously worked on titles such as Sleeping Dogs, Dead Rising and Need For Speed. Driven by a desire to create a game they wanted to play, the founders quit their day jobs specifically to make For The King – and that passion and love helped the game become a huge Kickstarter smash in 2015, before going on to enjoy Steam Early Access success in 2017.

Mixing up a challenging blend of strategy, JRPG combat, and rogue-like elements, For The King features both a single player experience as well as the ability to play cooperatively both online and locally. Taking place in the gorgeous, hexagonal kingdom of Fahrul, players must strategically explore and battle their way through the fairytale, low-poly landscape in a bid to discover and survive, lest they succumb to death.

“For The King is a passion project for us and very much an homage to the RPG genre,” said  Colby Young, Game Designer of IronOak Games. “Early Access has been great for the game, allowing us to listen to fans and make the game as strong, polished and fun as possible. Now with its full release, and our new publishing deal with Curve, we can’t wait for more players to experience For The King.”

“We’ve been following For The King since its Kickstarter, and we’re extremely excited to announce today that IronOak have become part of the Curve family,” said Jason Perkins, Managing Director of Curve Digital. “The office is full of board game players and we frequently play them in our downtime. To have a title which encompasses this passion is thrilling – we can’t wait for the title to be fully released.”

The once peaceful kingdom of Fahrul is in chaos – the King is dead, murdered by an unknown assailant. With nowhere left to turn and stretched beyond her means, the queen has put out a desperate plea to the citizens of the land to rise up and help stem the tide of impending doom. In For The King, players can choose to create a makeshift party, either splitting up to cover more ground or sticking together for protection. A sound strategy can mean the difference between life and death.

Each play through is made unique with procedural maps, quests, and events. Players must brave the relentless elements, fight the wicked creatures, sail the seas and delve into the dark underworld. Brutal, turn-based combat unfolds using a unique slot system for attacks and special abilities while herbs can be gathered to heal wounds and cure maladies. Safe camps protect from the horror that nightfall brings but players must remember, they do not do this for the riches or fame but for their village and for their realm. For The King!

For The King will leave Early Access on Steam in early April. To coincide with this, the price will increase to from $14.99 to $19.99. Anyone wishing to purchase For The King now will benefit from the reduced price up until full release.

NEW AUTO ROYALE™ GAME MODE RELEASES TODAY IN H1Z1®

H1Z1 Launches Out of Early Access With Massive Update That Includes Tactical Deployment, HUD Revamp and a Surprise Vehicular Battle Royale Mode

SAN DIEGO Feb. 28, 2018 – Daybreak Games® today announced the official launch of H1Z1®, the original standalone battle royale game that sparked a worldwide phenomenon. H1Z1 is now available on Steam for Windows PC with a brand-new game mode, Auto Royale™, injecting high-octane vehicular mayhem into the genre.

“In 2016, we did something unheard of – we split a successful game into two products and introduced the world to the first standalone battle royale game. The next year, we created the first battle royale esports league and became the second esport to ever air on broadcast television. This year, we continue to push this young genre forward with the introduction of Auto Royale,” said H1Z1 General Manager Anthony Castoro. “Auto Royale doesn’t rinse and repeat what is currently available on the market; it turns the genre on its head with a fresh approach – arcadey, vehicle-only battle royale unlike anything anyone has experienced before.”

Inspired by H1Z1’s fast-paced vehicle play, the new game mode – Auto Royale – features up to 30 teams of four in a battle to be the last vehicle standing. Teams speed around the massive map looking for power-ups, weapons, ammo, fuel and health as they try to outshoot, outdrive and outlast the competition. The mode introduces two new vehicles to H1Z1, a sedan and an armored recon vehicle (ARV), as well as a variety of features to cause vehicular havoc, including ramps, landmines, oil slicks, turbo boosts, vehicle jumps, corrosive smoke and much more.

AUTO ROYALE GAME MODE HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Two New Vehicles: Players can choose from two vehicles in Auto Royale – sedan or ARV – both new to the game and only available in Auto Royale.
    • Sedan: Nimble car with faster acceleration and higher jump clearance, allowing skilled drivers to quickly evade enemies.
    • Armored Recon Vehicle (ARV): Offers more stability, making it easier to drive for new players, but has less turbo fuel efficiency.
  • New Weapons: The light machine gun (LMG), available only in Auto Royale, deals the most sustained damage of any gun in the game.
  • New Power Ups: Players pick up evasive, defensive and combat drops to throw opponents off their trail, heal themselves, or deal damage to enemy vehicles.
    • Drops include vehicle repair kits, environmental buffs, fire extinguishers, and vehicle armor.
    • Power ups include smoke screens, high-octane fuel, turbo boosts, and oil slicks.
    • Pick-ups include landmines and corrosive smoke.

Auto Royale is currently in beta and will continue to develop with feedback from the community. Along with the new vehicular battle royale game mode, H1Z1 launches with a plethora of new features designed to enhance the game’s competitive nature and fast-paced combat.

ADDITIONAL H1Z1 LAUNCH FEATURES:

  • Tactical Deployment: Players can choose which area to parachute into at the start of a match using a heat map that shows locations of where other players spawn.
  • Airdrop Revamp: The airdrop system has been refined to add more points of contention, increasing the drop frequency and item value.
  • Season 1: The first official in-game season for H1Z1 starts with an all-new scoring algorithm designed to reward consistency and aggression, not just a player’s 10 best placements.
  • Mini-map: Players now have the option to turn on a mini-map to help them navigate the world.
  • Founder’s Item: All players who bought H1Z1 during early access will receive a special in-game shirt.
  • And More!

H1Z1 evolved tremendously during early access thanks to continued feedback from the community, leading to overhauls to the combat and vehicle systems, the addition of skirmishes and airdrops, changes to the toxicity system and more. The game will continue to escalate its solo and team-based last-person-standing thrills with new updates after release, including Z1 Remastered, a revamped version of the fan-favorite map from H1Z1’s early days. Daybreak is committed to further growing H1Z1’s competitive scene with support for structured organized play, tournaments and the H1Z1 Pro League.

H1Z1 is now available for $19.99 through Steam for Windows PC. For more information, visit www.h1z1.com, as well as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Twitch.
