Doughlings: Arcade Launches on Steam in May

Istanbul, April 17th  – From the minds of Hero Concept, comes the arcade brick breaker that is putting an addictively fun twist on a classic genre. Doughlings: Arcade combines the timeless fun of brick breaker mechanics, and an art style with a nostalgic feel, with a fresh take on power-ups, character evolution, level design and humorous narration.

Rather than rest easy with a tested classic, Hero Concept has added new layers of clever play and mechanics. Playing as Morpheus you are tasked with healing as many of your fellow Doughlings as possible in each level. The traditional power-up is revamped and instead, Doughlings offers the ‘Show Off’ which when earned provides an effective and entertaining trait to use in each level.

Character evolution comes into play in a unique way with Doughlings in the form of unlocking additional personas. Personas are activated by DNA in the level and are limited time power-ups with special abilities. Each persona comes with its own unique “Show Off” trait providing alternate gameplay that results in creative strategies and some humorous animations.

Doughlings is jam-packed with 90 levels of varying levels of difficulty and opponents that provide even the most seasoned brick breaker a challenge. An additional layer of progression is present with Morpheus and his 6 alternate personas by collecting elixirs to activate even more powerful abilities.

If 90 levels aren’t enough, Doughlings also offers level creation. Players can design and share their custom-made levels, offering endless amounts of play time and challenges.

To put the icing on the cake, Doughlings is topped off with comical narration that isn’t afraid to tell it like it is. Doughlings: Arcade will be available on Steam, Green Man Gaming, Fanatical, and Kinguin for PC and Mac in May.

Play Minecraft with your eyes – SpecialEffect release ‘EyeMine’ software

UK-based gamers’ charity SpecialEffect have today released their unique open-source EyeMine software that will enable many people with severe physical disabilities to play Minecraft – using only their eyes.

Windows-based EyeMine is free to download for anyone with a Minecraft account and works with a number of suitable eye-trackers. It can be made compatible with any eye tracker that can control a mouse pointer.

The software has a number of ability levels. If players can use eye gaze to select a square button about a quarter of the height of a monitor, they should be able to walk, fly and attack. More accurate eye control enables players to build, select items from the inventory and chat.

The help of a number of people with physical disabilities has been vital in the development and testing of the software. One of them, Becky Tyler, demonstrated the software to her gaming heroes (and long time SpecialEffect supporters) Lewis Brindley and Mark Turpin of the Yogscast recently.

Upcoming Warframe Update Introduces Khora and a New Game Mode

First of all, it was incredibly hard not to make any “Legend of Khora” puns throughout this article, but I pulled through. With that out of the way, let’s talk about the new Warframe update. The 35th Warframe, Khora is entering the battlefield this week on PC accompanied by her trusty Kavat pet, new weapons and a Sanctuary Onslaught game mode.
According to DE, Khora offers both deadly offensive attacks and team-oriented defensive tactics featuring four distinguished Abilities:

  • Whipclaw: Send enemies reeling with a deafening whipcrack.
  • Ensnare: Bind a hapless target in living metal, entangling others who stray too close. Disperse the trap with a crack of the whip.
  • Venari: Summon a ferocious, gleaming Kavat. Use again to cycle between Attack, Protect, and Heal postures.
  • Strangledome: Weave a dome of living chain that ensnares and strangles any enemy within, and any foolish enough to approach.

New weapons and items available for Khora include the Dartgun, Quill Spear, Tenno Revolver Rifle, Zaw Parts, Quill Syandana, and Quill Alt Helmet. On top of all that, we have a new playground to try out the new weapons and most importantly – obtain Khora. Blueprints for her can be found in a new Sanctuary Onslaught mode, a timed mode where you battle increasingly tougher enemies while advancing through portals to new areas. In any case, I know how I’ll be spending my weekend (don’t judge me!).

The Thin Silence to Donate 10 Cents a Copy to CheckPoint Charity

Two PM Studios and Nkidu Games announced they will be partnering with CheckPoint, a mental health charity. Two PM Studios and Nkibu Games will be donating ten cents for every copy of The Thin Silence that is sold. The game is set to launch on Mac and Windows via Steam, Itch, and Humble on April 27, 2018.

The Thin Silence is a narrative adventure game that challenges players to overcome puzzles by combining items to create the right tools.

The developers have been open with their own mental health struggles and how it inspired The Thin Silence. Technical Director Ben Follington spoke about the game’s theme of mental health:

When we started making The Thin Silence, we didn’t know we were making a game about mental health. I wasn’t really comfortable with that being a leading theme of the game for a lot of development. There’s a lot of shame and fear about opening up about these things, video games are “fun” after all. Seeing Checkpoint’s work is part of what made me feel like we could and should make a statement and share our perspectives.

CheckPoint is a charity that seeks to raise awareness about mental health and provide support for the video gamer and game developer communities. The charity is registered as a Health Promotion Charity in Australia.

Funcom’s open-world survival game Conan Exiles receives global release on 8th May

New updates, new features and new challenges coming your way!

It’s been just over three weeks since we launched Sea of Thieves, and a lot has happened since then! We’ve been listening to you all, and we know you are keen to hear how we plan to grow Sea of Thieves. As we’ve always said, launch is just the start, and we are going to grow and evolve the game with feedback from our community. It feels like the right time to reveal how we’ll do this.

Sea of Thieves is a unique experience. As we look to add to the game, we will be very purposeful about the type of experience we want to create, and how we want this game to grow. At the same time, we have also been listening closely to everyone playing the game since launch and have been ensuring that this feeds into our content plans. When considering what to add to our plans, we always consider how we can make the most impact on the following:

  • Bringing players together in interesting ways, encouraging different types of player encounters
  • Enriching the world that players adventure in
  • Giving players new ways to play
  • Giving players a variety of goals and rewards
  • Broadening the journey to Pirate Legend and beyond

Alongside this, what’s key for us is the rhythm and cadence we want to get into with Sea of Thieves. Our focus for April is to continue addressing the top feedback points, but as we move into May, our focus will shift to new content.

Our first content update, The Hungering Deep, will release in May and bring with it a new AI threat to the world. Crews will have to work together to discover and defeat this threat as part of a unique event. We will also be introducing a number of new mechanics to assist players on this adventure, and there will be unique rewards that players can earn as part of this event. Beyond this, we will begin our weekly events programme during May, where we introduce new mechanics and give players fun new ways to play with weekly events and rewards.

In the summer months, we’ll debut two more content updates with Cursed Sails, which will include a new ship type, and Forsaken Shores, which will introduce players to a perilous new part of the world to explore.

Similarly to The Hungering Deep, both of these updates will also include new gameplay mechanics for players, new AI threats to challenge and new unique rewards to claim.

As we’ve always said, we never wanted to do anything to separate our players, so we’re pleased to confirm that all content updates will be available to all our players, at no additional cost.

With Sea of Thieves being a game that grows and evolves, we’ll be listening to you, our community, throughout. As such, we’ll always be looking at whether our current plans are meeting your needs. Based on feedback since launch, we have changed the priorities for both Pets and Ship Captaincy which we had previously announced as things we would look to add in the few months after launch. These are on the back burner for now whilst we add to the game in other areas. Expect our plans to continue to be fluid, but always with the goals listed above as our guiding principles.

We are hugely excited to be beginning this phase of Sea of Thieves, and seeing where the adventure takes us.

New Incredibles 2 Trailer Released

Disney Pixar released a brand new trailer for the highly anticipated Incredibles 2.

Viewers are introduced to Helen AKA Elastigirl’s new job as a vigilante superhero looking to rehabilitate the reputation of superheroes everywhere. Bob AKA Mr. Incredible is looking to get used to his new role as a stay at home dad while his daughter Violet endures adolescence and his youngest son Jack-Jack’s superhero powers begin to emerge in unpredictable ways. Of course, the show stealing Edna Mode makes an appearance as she seeks to help Bob figure out what Jack-Jack is capable. With the appearance of a new villain, the entire family and Bob’s best friend Frozone are soon called back into service.

Incredibles 2 is set to hit cinemas on June 14th.
