Coffee Culture Arrives on PC and Consoles in Coffee Talk! Serve Up Warm Drinks and Listen to Stories in this Unique Narrative Simulator from January 30

Toge Productions’ Visual Novel Game is About a Coffee Shop, Good Conversation, and Relaxing Vibes

London, UK – January 14, 2020 – Chorus Worldwide and Toge Productions are pleased to announce the global release of Coffee Talk, a narrative simulator where a blend of fantasy races enjoy conversation over warm drinks. Developed by Indonesian-based Toge Productions, Coffee Talk will arrive on Steam Store, Nintendo eShop, Microsoft Store and PlayStation Store on January 30, 2020.

As the Barista in late-night coffee shop, ‘Coffee Talk’, players offer friendly conversation and late-night warm drinks to the colourful and fantastical inhabitants of alternative-Seattle including elves, aliens, and orcs. The game features visual aesthetics inspired by 90s anime, classic pixel art adventure games, and images often associated with lo-fi chill hop music. The visual novel storylines are determined based on drinks they are served, not through the dialogue selections. Coffee Talk is the place to be for those who want to chat, relax, and relate no matter who they are or where they come from over delicious expertly crafted hot drinks.

“This game plays like the warm drinks served within it: warm, mellow, and comforting.” said Shintaro Kanaoya, Founder of Chorus Worldwide. “It’s rewarding to listen to the stories of the varied clientele and offering them up their favourite drinks when asked (and you feel bad when you get their order wrong). Just as the coffee shop in the game is a peaceful place for its customers to rest and unwind, Toge Productions have masterfully created a little oasis of a game for players of all ages to take a breath and relax.”

“After a stressful day, we just want to play something relaxing that’s not stressful or violent, sadly there aren’t many of them,” said Kris Antoni, Founder of Toge Productions, “So, we decided to make one where people can chill, relax, and craft latte-art.”

Coffee Talk is an official nominee of “Dengeki Online’s Indie Prize” at The Tokyo Game Show 2019, the finalist for the “Excellence in Narrative” at Busan Indie Connect 2019, and the winner of “Best Storytelling” at Level Up KL 2018. A demo version of Coffee Talk is now available on the Steam Store.

Filament is a puzzle exploration game from three-person indie dev team Beard Envy. Players will become the unlikely hero of The Alabaster, a flagship research vessel owned by The Filament Corporation. Juniper is the only remaining crew member and is locked in a room, unable to escape. It is now up to the player to discover what happened to the ship and rescue Juniper.

The story in Filament is mostly told in one sided conversations between Juniper and the player. The rest is filled in through a series of collectibles scattered throughout the ship. So far, the writing in the preview build is solid. It’s well written and is an enjoyable accompaniment to the exploration sections of the game.

The ship is filled to the brim with things to explore. Among the remains of human activity are puzzle stations containing four to six puzzles each. Completing all the puzzles in a station will often unlock a door to a new area or open a container with a lore item.

The puzzles are the bulk of Filament’s content. At its core, each puzzle requires players to drag a filament around a room to link all the powered pillars together so the exit door will open. Like the classic game Snake, players can’t cross the filament once its been laid down. To solve the puzzles, players need to figure out the order pillars need to be connected and in what direction to ensure the filament makes contact with all the pillars. As the game progresses, new mechanics like coloured pillars that need to be connected in groups are added to the puzzles. The game introduces the new mechanics in baby steps but quickly becomes a devious test of logic and angles.

Filament is already striking the right balance of simplicity and challenge. The game takes a really simple concept and adds enough twists and turns to keep things interesting. The challenge for developers Beard Envy will be to continue introducing new mechanics and implement them in innovative ways to keep things fresh when players reach the end of the 200+ puzzles that are being promised.

Exploration is the complementary part of Filament’s gameplay. Since the puzzles all use the same basic concept, the exploration helps break up the flow of the game. I suspect the long-term value of the exploration will hinge on how well the story is executed as a bored player will likely skip straight to the puzzles whenever possible. My only immediate issue with the preview build is the slow walking pace. It could do with a small bump in speed as the current pace can discourage some to explore every nook and cranny in the ship.

Filament’s controls are simple and effective. The game currently supports controllers and mouse and keyboard. Filament is all about moving around, so admittedly it is quite hard to mess it up. The game does include some extra controls that make the puzzle solving a more pleasant experience. Players can quickly move the camera up to get a top down view which helps a lot for figuring out what angle is needed or why the filament suddenly lost connection. Players can rewind time or completely reset the puzzle to save time, instead of backtracking. Currently, the preview version lacks icons for specific controller types. Mouse and keyboard users cannot rebind their keys, either. Both are issues that need to be addressed before the game is launched later in the year.

Filament is looking great so far. The graphic style is cartoony, bright, and colourful. The style is like a 3D version of the Saturday morning cartoons I grew up watching. From a gameplay standpoint, the graphics are well executed. Important gameplay mechanics are conveyed with shape and colours, allowing players to figure out the new mechanics without any text-based explanations.

The audio experience is solid. The voice actor that plays Juniper has done an excellent job so far. She’s skilled and manages the one-sided nature of the conversation well. The music is extremely limited right now with only a small handful of tracks. Considering players will spend a lot of time solving puzzles, the developers need to expand the soundtrack for the game’s final release, so the music does not become repetitive.

Filament is shaping up to be a solid adventure-puzzle game. So far, the developers have demonstrated entertaining creativity while sticking to a single base puzzle. Our preview build had some areas that will need some work before the game’s final release later this year. Luckily, these are not fundamental issues with the game mechanics. For the most part, they are superficial issues like slow move speeds and a lack of musical variety. If Beard Envy can address these problems and maintain their creative ideas to keep the puzzles fresh, Filament will be a fantastic addition to any puzzle fan’s collection.

Horror Adventure Tokyo Dark -Remembrance- Spooks PlayStation 4 Today

Horror Adventure Tokyo Dark -Remembrance- Spooks PlayStation 4 Today

TOKYO – 10 Jan. 2020 – Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) publishing label UNTIES today releases Tokyo Dark -Remembrance-, the anime-style murder mystery merging visual novel and adventure features, on PlayStation 4™.

The plot thickens with the release of -Remembrance-, which developers Cherrymochi and mebius. have rebuilt entirely in a new engine. Colorful animated sequences by Breath of the Wild, Xenoblade Chronicles X, and Hellsing Ultimate animation studio Graphinica bring to life the dark horror scenery of a crime-riddled Tokyo. Additional content and more endings for the branching narrative round out this ultimate edition of Tokyo Dark.

The disappearance of Detective Ito Ayami’s partner isn’t the only unsettling occurrence plaguing Japan’s capital city. Strange symbols and a mysterious masked figure have popped up all over its many districts. Ito must delve into the city’s seedy underbelly to uncover the truth behind the supernatural occurrences and find her friend before it is too late.

Ito’s actions and decisions are tracked by the S.P.I.N (Sanity, Professionalism, Investigation, Neurosis) system, which affects character interactions and available story paths. Playing by the rules might keep her in good standing with her fellow police officers and open up favors to aid the investigation, while often resorting to violence could irreparably turn citizens against her, closing paths further down the line.

Tokyo Dark -Remembrance- emphasizes balancing opposing forces mechanically, visually and thematically,” said John Davis, G&R Representative, UNTIES. “The developers have perfected the core ideas with the Switch and upcoming PlayStation 4 releases, taking Ito’s journey to even more chilling places with innovative systems tracking every in-game action.”

Tokyo Dark -Remembrance- is available now on Nintendo Switch and today on PlayStation 4 for $19.99 USD/€17.99. English and German are supported in text only, with voice acting also available in Japanese.

To learn more, visit the Tokyo Dark -Remembrance- website and its official Facebook page.

Langrisser II Story Trailer Released

Last month NIS America released a trailer highlighting the storyline of Langrisser I and now the company is focusing on the second game in the Langrisser I & II bundle by releasing a story trailer for Langrisser II.

It has been centuries since the War of the Sacred Sword razed El Sallia. Now, incessant violence plagues the continent. Isolated battles arise all across the land, ravaging towns and nations, before creeping to the next. The Kingdom of Baldea is but a legend, and Langrisser is no more than a fairytale.

A young traveler named Elwin journeys the land with Hein, an amateur mage he met on his travels. One day during their travels, they decide to stay the night at an inn in Hein’s hometown, a small village known as Salrath. In the middle of the night, Hein bursts into Elwin’s room, pale as the night moon behind him. He claims that forces of the Rayguard Empire were seen on the outskirts of Salrath. They are searching for Liana, a young girl who lived there.

What business could the empire have with a village as peaceful as Salrath and a defenseless girl? Paying no heed to the precarious situation he was about to involve himself with, Elwin leaves for the countryside without hesitation to save her.
