Sid Meier’s Civilization VI June 2020 Update Adds Red Death Season 2

2K and Firaxis have launched the latest content update for Sid Meier’s Civilization IV. The new update focuses heavily on the Red Death multiplayer mode. Red Death pits up to 12 players against each other in a free for all in an increasingly deadly map. The Red Death, a radioactive storm, is sweeping the world and destroying everything in its path.

Red Death Season 2 introduces two new factions. The Aliens faction specialize in ambushes, using invisibility cloaks to get the jump on enemies and then using health regeneration to prepare themselves for the next engagement. The second faction is the Zombies. The faction favours hyper-aggressive players as their zombie horde combat units are the only ones they can have. These lumbering monstrosities can’t heal and constantly take damage. They can only heal by defeating enemy units, which will also spawn an additional zombie hordes for free.

All factions, including the two new ones, have also been given a new unique ability to help turn the tide in battle.

The Red Death Season 2 update is live for Linux, Mac, and Windows.

Civilization VI – Red Death Season 2 now live with new Game Update

Red Death Season 2 Now Live

The Civilization VI June 2020 Update is now available. In addition to balance and update changes, each game update offers a new feature such as a scenario, game mode or customization. This month’s game update introduces Season Two for Civilization VI: Red Death, a multiplayer mode on PC, Mac and Linux where up to 12 players compete in a free-for-all battle to escape a dying planet that is engulfed in the Red Death – a growing storm of radioactivity.

Red Death – Season 2

  • New Playable Factions
    • Aliens – They’ve always been here… watching from the shadows – The Alien faction specializes in camouflage technology allowing them to turn invisible and ambush their enemies or escape dangerous situations. They also have health regeneration upping their survivability in any given skirmish.
  • Zombies – Civilization’s undead rise for humanity’s final moments – The Zombie faction replaces all combat units with Zombie Hordes. These units can’t heal normally and take damage over time. Zombie Hordes instead will heal and gain additional Zombie units when an enemy unit is defeated or by exploring City Ruins, Raider Camps, and Supply Drops.
  • Faction Unique Abilities – Every faction, both old and new, has been outfitted with a unique ability.
    • Aliens – Xenological Camouflage: All units can use Xenological Camouflage to become invisible to most units. Adjacent enemy units can see Camouflaged units. Initiating an attack deactivates Camouflage.
    • Cultists – The Undying Eye: Cultists start the game with a crippled GDR. The GDR starts damaged and does not heal or gain experience normally. The GDR instead earns promotions when units sacrifice themselves to it. These promotions can then be used to return the GDR to full operation status.
  • Borderlords – Grieving Gift: Deploy a fake supply drop to a given location on the next turn. If another player pops the supply drop, it triggers an explosion at that location.
  • Jocks – Hail Mary: Small tactical nuke that can be launched from any combat unit. Has a smaller blast radius of 1 hex.
  • Mutants – Radiant Personalities: Mutants that start their turn in the Red Death absorb 8 Radiation Chargesper turn. They spread Red Death to non-Red Death hexes automatically for 1 Radiation Charge per hex. Mutant units do not take fallout damage from mutant spread Red Death.
  • Preppers – Improvised Traps: Combat units can build the Improvised Trap that causes damage and the loss of a movement point to any unit that moves onto it. Preppers get 5 Improvised Traps per visit to an unexplored City Ruins, Raider Camp, and Supply Crate. Improvised Traps are invisible to non-Prepper factions.
  • Pirates – Buried Treasure: Pirates start the game with a Treasure Map to a buried treasure location indicated on their minimap. When a pirate unit of that player reaches the treasure location, the pirate is granted a unit and a new treasure map.
  • Mad Scientists – Defensive Inertial Shielding: All combat units can deploy shielding that provides a +10 combat strength while defending. While shielded, the unit has immunity to WMD Blast, Red Death, and Water Poisoning Damage
  • Wanderers – Road Vision: Grants active visibility on all previously revealed terrain.
  • Zombies – Barely Weaponized Zombies (Passive): Killing a non-zombie enemy unit creates more Zombie Hordes. Zombie Hordes do not suffer combat penalties when damaged. City Ruins, Raider Camps, and Supply Drops grant additional Zombie Hordes instead of traditional units.

THE LG LED SIGNAGE FEATURING NON-CONTACT CONNECTORS DELIVERS MORE IMPACTFUL IMAGES WITH SIMPLIFIED INSTALLATION

Latest LED Signage Solution Leverages Innovative Design with Industry-leading Display Technology for Greater Performance to Deliver a Valuable Customer Solution

SEOUL, June 26, 2020 — LG Electronics (LG), a leading digital signage provider, is introducing its new advanced digital signage solution, the LG LED Signage (model LSAA). The LSAA offers more impactful image quality and simplified installation1 than the company’s predecessor models.

The LSAA features a block-assembly design that makes constructing large displaysmore user-friendly. LG designed its solution around a single LED cabinet hub (600W x 337.5H x 44.9D mm) to provide power and signal to the multiple cabinets without additional cabling between cabinets. This setup can help with saving time, hassle and even costs while delivering up to 4K UHD resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. The ability to smoothly send and receive signals wirelessly is due to the LG non-contact connector technology with power being sent to each display via pin connectors located on the edges of the LED cabinet hub.

What’s more, the LED cabinet allows installers to connect multiple displays to achieve the desired size. With straightforward installation and expandability, the LSAA can be set up or reconfigured onsite in a fraction of the time it takes other LED displays. Wall-mounts and frame-type accessories offer a number of installation options to meet the diverse requirements of different site conditions and customer needs.

LG LSAA with the same AI-powered Image Processor found in the LG popular high-end TVs delivers vivid images2 via its self-emissive display technology and narrow 1.2mm distance between pixels, with gaps to narrow even further to less than 1mm in the second half of the year. For efficiency, the product employs the common cathode method where the cathodes of the LEDs are common and connected to a single pin to prevent unnecessary power consumption, delivering only the required voltage to each sub-pixel.

“Our LSAA series sets a new standard for LED signage solutions in the commercial display market,” said Paik Ki-mun, senior vice president and head of the Information Display business unit of LG Electronics Business Solutions Company.

The newest LED signage by LG will be available this month starting in North America and Europe with subsequent rollouts taking place in Latin America, Australia and Asia.

1 Compared to the LG LAS-F Series, cabling number is reduced by one-eighth based on UHD 16:9 screen. Cabling may vary depending on the actual installation environment.

2 AI image processing may result in differences in picture quality.

Xbox Series X: Embrace the Full Power of the Console with Games Optimised for Xbox Series X

by Will Tuttle, Xbox Wire Editor in Chief

Here at Xbox, we’re building the future of gaming by putting players first, ensuring that you are at the centre and in control of your gaming experience. Whether you’re exploring an expansive library of Xbox Game Pass titles with more than 10 million of your fellow gamers or taking your gaming on the go with Project xCloud, it’s clear that the future of gaming is brighter than ever.

Nowhere is that more evident than with Xbox Series X, our fastest, most powerful console ever. Not only will Xbox Series X set a new bar for performance, speed and compatibility, it will empower the world’s greatest developers to create games that launch us into the future of gaming. Putting players first also means introducing a host of new features and technologies to improve their experience.

Last week, we took a look at Smart Delivery. Today, we’ll be diving into what it means when a game is Optimised for Xbox Series X.

Optimised for Xbox Series X is the indicator for games that take advantage of the full power of Xbox Series X. Since Xbox Series X offers developers unparalleled power and speed, this empowers them to create the experiences they want and embrace a range of features and capabilities based on what is best for their individual titles. When you hear a game has been Optimised for Xbox Series X, you’ll know that the developer has either natively designed or fully rebuilt their game to take full advantage of the unique capabilities of our most powerful console ever.

Games featuring the Optimised for Xbox Series X badge can showcase anything from virtually eliminating load times via the Xbox Velocity Architecture, heightened visuals and hardware-accelerated DirectX raytracing powered by our custom, next generation GPU, to steadier and often higher framerates up to 120fps. Titles displaying the Optimised for Xbox Series X badge can include:

  • Brand new games built natively for the Xbox Series X such as Halo Infinite.
  • Previously released titles in which a developer has enhanced their title using the Xbox Series X development environment to dramatically leverage the power and features Xbox Series X has to offer, like Gears 5.

Let’s take a closer look at what you’ll be getting when you’re playing a game that’s been Optimised for Xbox Series X:

Groundbreaking Visual Fidelity Immerses You in Your Games

Powered by DirectX 12 Ultimate and with support for hardware-accelerated DirectX Raytracing—a first for consoles—select games will produce more dynamic, realistic environments. DirectX Raytracing means that you’ll see true-to-life lighting, accurate reflections and hear 3D spatially accurate acoustics in real time as you explore the game world. Ultimately, DirectX Raytracing enables developers to create more physically accurate worlds.  To give a better feel for what this may look like in practice, we asked Manuel Fernández, Co-founder and Programmer from Out of the Blue to share what they’re most excited about for leveraging DirectX Raytracing in Call of the Sea:

In Call of the Sea, the island has a great importance as we tell the story as a dialogue between the player and their environment. Thanks to the power of Xbox Series X and DirectX Raytracing, we will have the chance to make the island even more present, almost come to life. Players will have the opportunity to enjoy the island’s stunning environments in beautiful 4K, allowing for a greater immersion and an overall better experience.– Manuel Fernández, Out of the Blue

Next Generation Framerates Offer the Pinnacle of Precision

Games that have been Optimised for Xbox Series X use the power of the new console to deliver higher, steadier framerates, with a performance target of 60 frames per second at 4K resolution. Some games will even be able to support framerates up to 120 fps or variable refresh rates, allowing developers to offer players heightened realism and more precise controls for fast-paced action. We also talked to Technical Director at Codemasters David Springate about optimising DiRT 5 for Xbox Series X, to give you a better feel for how increased framerates could improve next gen games:

“DIRT 5 is a fast, action-packed amplified off-road racing game and being able to play it with 120fps options on Xbox Series X is incredible. The power of Series X means that the game looks stunning at 60fps, and we’re also able to offer amazingly smooth, responsive gameplay at 120fps while still looking gorgeous. Racing fans know frame rate is king and DIRT 5 will deliver on this. Players will experience the strongest sense of speed and responsiveness at the highest frame rate. It’s such a great, smooth experience – I hadn’t experienced another racer like it.” – David Springate, Codemasters

Faster Load Times Will Get You Gaming More Quickly than Ever

Optimised for Xbox Series X isn’t just about gorgeous visuals and better framerates. It’s also about virtually eliminating in-game load times thanks to our Xbox Velocity Architecture technology. XVA combines a custom solid-state drive, custom hardware and integrated software to greatly decrease load times both in and out of games, meaning gamers will be able to spend more time playing and less time waiting. As an example, for titles that have large, open-world environments, these experiences will feel even more dynamic, as developers will be able to leverage the massive increase in processing power and the ability to stream assets in extremely quickly to not break immersion. Developers will also be able to effectively eliminate loading times between levels and create fast travel systems that are just that: fast. We talked with Mike Rayner, Technical Director at The Coalition to hear what he’s most excited about for leveraging the XVA for Gears 5 and here’s what he had to say:

“As a game developer one of the most exciting improvements that far exceeds expectations is the massive I/O improvements on Xbox Series X. With the Xbox Series X, out of gate we reduced our load-times by more than 4x without any code changes. With the new DirectStorage APIs and new hardware decompression we can further improve I/O performance and reduce CPU overhead both of which are essential to achieve fast loading.  As we look to the future, the Xbox Series X’s Sampler Feedback for Streaming (SFS) is a game changer for how we think about world streaming and visual level of detail.” – Mike Rayner, The Coalition

Wondering which games are Optimised for Xbox Series X? Below you’ll find a list of titles confirmed to be Optimised for Xbox Series X to date. As this list grows in the weeks and months leading up to Xbox Series X launch, we’ll keep it updated to reflect any additions.

  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

  • Chivalry 2
  • Chorus
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Destiny 2
  • DiRT 5
  • FIFA 21

  • Outriders
  • Scarlet Nexus

We hope this gave you a better idea of what it means when you purchase a game that’s been Optimised for Xbox Series X, which ensure that the player is at the centre of the gaming experience. We’ll be sharing more on Optimised for Xbox Series X and adding titles to the list above in the coming months.
