Old People Mayhem Sandbox ‘Just Die Already’ Coming Soon to PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch Alongside PC

The next game from Goat Simulator designer Armin Ibrisagic is the Perfect Old Age Pensioner Playground For Those Into Breaking A Leg. And the Odd Frail Neck

London, UK – Monday, 15 March 2021 – Curve Digital and DoubleMoose are excited to announce that Just Die Already will be coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch as well as PC on Steam and Epic Games Store.

Soon, it will be time to head into the world of Just Die Already to take on the role of the world’s elderly – those greedy folks whose pension payments eat up all our taxes but were in their prime at a time when they could afford a decent home without a mortgage eating up their entire wage packet each month. Those damn old people. They don’t know they’re born, do they?

In short: The world is angry with you. The world wants you dead. So why not live a little?

Why not stumble in the shoes of those old enough not only to remember the day man first walked on the moon, but also the now oft-forgotten day after, when the fact Neil Armstrong was being hoisted on strings across a leftover set from Barbarella on a soundstage somewhere in Hollywood was revealed to the world and, subsequently, covered up.

Hashtag Barbarellagate. Yes, that’s right. Jane Fonda was technically the first ‘man’ on the ‘moon’. Look it up on Google, kids. This old guy right here just truth bombed your ass.

For more insights into Frank’s mind, the protagonist of Just Die Already, follow the Twitter account here:@JustDieGame.

Just Die Already takes place in the near future at a time where population growth has stalled to zero, presumably because having to wear a mask at all times somewhat hinders any amorous encounters. As a result, nobody is being born, nobody is paying into the pension pot, and nobody is covering your living costs.

To make things worse, you’ve just been kicked out of your retirement home, and your only option now is to perform dangerous challenges to qualify for free care. Players can either take on Just Die Already alone or compete in four-player online multiplayer, ticking off dangerous challenges that put your life – and, indeed, every single bone in your body – in pure peril.

You’ll get hit by cars, you’ll lose the odd limb or two, and you’ll smash into the ground after launching yourself from a catapult, all in the process of earning that spot at a prized retirement home.

Just Die Already is an old people mayhem sandbox from the designer behind Goat Simulator, Armin Ibrisagic. It’s what the YouTube generation are calling ‘Grand Dad Auto VI’ – or so the young’uns tell us – and it’s coming to PC and consoles soon.

Curve Digital and DoubleMoose will share more about Just Die Already’s launch date in the weeks ahead. Until then, you can wishlist the game here

Blizzard Arcade Collection Review

Blizzard Arcade Collection

Developer: Blizzard
Publisher: Blizzard
Platforms:PlayStation 4 , Switch (Reviewed), Xbox One, PC
Release Date: Available Now
Price: $19.99 – Available Here

Overview

Blizzard are known for their mega-franchises such as Overwatch and World of Warcraft. Have they released other titles? Sure, but the world keeps rotating without mention, as a few titles within their resume have not really demanded a re-release. Blizzard Arcade Collection looks to patch that for the company, as it puts together three classic titles into one easy package, with a bit of love added in for good measure. Does this compilation take us back in all the right ways, or is it best to give these “gems” a pass? Let’s find out.

Story

Well, for their time, two out of three of the games within Blizzard Arcade Collection are well rounded with narrative. The Lost Vikings is about three vikings trying to make their way across time. Blackthorne features a protagonist by the name of Kyle, who must return to his homeland and defeat an evil ruler. Rock n’ Roll Racing doesn’t have much of a plot aside from music and racing, but that’s not really needed in a title like that. I think my biggest surprise of Vikings and Blackthorne, more particularly the latter – is that there was a lot of work applied to making these stories well rounded and deep. In the early nineties, story wasn’t exactly the focus of gaming, but these two titles in particular feel as if they were developed for their story, where the gameplay was simply meant to be a device or platform for its telling. That feel is what truly makes this collection feel unique. We have an offbeat comedy, a serious action adventure, and a sleek, cool racer.

Gameplay

I don’t think I played any of these titles outside of The Lost Vikings before trying Blizzard Arcade Collection, so I guess that is a good place to start. The Lost Vikings has the player take control of three different Vikings per stage, where they must get them all to the exit. Each Viking has their own unique skillset, such as a shield, attacks with swords and bows, and the ability to jump far. The player has to take turns with the cast, swapping between Vikings to trigger unique switches and doors that will allow all to pass. Its clever, and mostly cohesive despite having limited controls to handle the overall experience. What I mean by that is that it is a bit tedious at times to use items, but still doable as there is never a sense of urgency.

Blackthorne feels very similar in terms of gameplay, but is styled as an action-adventure side scroller, where the player must simply survive obstacles and defeat enemies to progress. Rock n’ Roll Racing is just a racer featuring attacks and power-ups, and plays a bit like Super Off-Road, leading to some exciting and very different racing experiences. These ports play well and feel polished, with each featuring their individual Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis releases, as well as a more polished “definitive edition”. Outside of a few minor nuances, if you have played any other modern compilation title, then you should know what to expect here as despite a lot of flare, Blizzard Arcade Collection seems to package itself well to be worth its price tag as these are not just arcade titles, but full console games that each have a good bit of content.

There is also a documentary that was very nice to see bundled here, providing a history lesson of sorts, and getting to see cameos from other characters pop up in various titles within the collection should add incentive for players to get to see how proud Blizzard actually are of the little legacies they created so long ago. Would I have liked to see more content? Sure! There is enough to fill a museum here for these three titles, but without much interactivity and push when it comes to capturing that compilation feel, I think some of the new features provided may be lost to new players who never got a chance to see the original versions. Everything feels kind of pasted in, and I think extra attention to special menus and general design prior to entering each game would have highlighted all of these features even more.

Visuals

Outside of their original format, there isn’t a lot new to speak of here other than the definitive versions of each title looking fantastic in 4K. Again, these three titles are very different from one another, and each art style should give the player three very different experiences based on that alone. The menus are rather plain and feel generic, which isn’t a deal breaker, but shows another area where we certainly could have seen some more celebration for games that are more than worthy.

Audio

Sound wise, there is nothing to complain about. I love the music from The Lost Vikings and while not mind-blowing, Blackthorne also features a serviceable soundtrack. Rock n’ Roll Racing however is one of the first racers to feature licensed music from artists such as Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, and to see those licenses extended into a port shows how much the company still cares about their preservation. Sega Genesis’ most recent collection had a lot of audio issues, as did a few Capcom ports, and I found no issues whatsoever during my time with all three games within Blizzard Arcade Collection.

Overall

Blizzard Arcade Collection is a rad compilation of three niche titles that now will have a home on modern consoles, and that is awesome. It’s interesting to see how three very different styles of games can still somehow capture a similar feel, and there is not one dud within this set. One can argue that there should be more content or presentation to the package itself here, but with a documentary, newly tuned definitive editions, and seeing the original forms of all the games included makes this release a history lesson worth attending, as players are sure to see how Blizzard became the behemoth they are today.

Boss Rush Bullet Hell Shooter Godstrike Races to Nintendo Switch, Steam April 15

Boss Rush Bullet Hell Shooter Godstrike Races to Nintendo Switch, Steam April 15

Take Down Foes Before the Buzzer Sounds in this Shmup Where Time and Health are Linked

MADRID – 15 March 2021 – Godstrike, the boss rush bullet-hell shooter where time is everything from publisher Freedom Games and developer OverPowered Team, races to Nintendo Switch and Steam for Windows PC on Thursday, April 15, 2021, as revealed during The MIX’s Game Dev Direct showcase.

Centuries after a divine power divided itself between seven mysterious masks, chaos reigns. Now inhabiting vessels called Heralds, these seven entities spend eternity fighting each other as the world decays around them. That is, all but one. Talaal, the forgotten seventh mask, and its new Herald Yissia stand alone. Only together can they stop their siblings’ apocalyptic war.

Don the mask of Talaal and duel against devilish monstrosities in multi-stage boss battles with breakneck speed. Go in guns blazing, weaving through oncoming fire, and unleashing a torrent of heavenly abilities to overcome adversaries as quickly as possible. Time is of the essence, because in Godstrike as the seconds count down, so too does our hero’s health bar.

Time is both life and a currency. Talaal and Yissia lose valuable seconds needed to complete their mission for every hit they take. So the pair must make calculated moves before each showdown, shuffling between an ever-expanding stockpile of skills to help defend against their foes’ strengths while taking advantage of weaknesses.

Every second counts in the fight against the Heralds, but running out of time is never the end. Progress through the Campaign Mode, unlocking and setting skills with each Herald defeated while Talaal’s tale unfolds. Experiment with more than 20 skills like Spark, a flashy move making the seventh mask impervious to harm while inflicting damage of its own upon contact. Mix and match powers, experimenting with synergies and strategies, on the road to victory.

Utilize every ability in the arsenal in Arcade Mode or dare to take on the celestial beasts in Challenge mode with randomized boss orders and mysterious blessings bestowed after each fight. Strive to become the champion in Daily Challenge runs, devious randomized crusades that shift and change every 24 hours. For those feeling social, built-in Twitch features allow livestream viewers to impact the action, deciding battles’ status effects by popular vote.

“In Godstrike, time is your greatest asset and most dreaded enemy,” said Pablo Monroy, Art Director, OverPowered Team. “And like Talaal, we’re anxiously counting the seconds until our heavenly bullet-hell shooter hits Nintendo Switch and Steam on April 15!”

Godstrike launches on Nintendo Switch and Windows PC via Steam on April 15, 2021, for $14.99 with an additional 20% launch discount on both platforms. The game also includes full gamepad functionality as well as support for English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Korean, and Japanese language options.

YO JOE! G.I. JOE Makes Its Way to World of Tanks

Choose a side to fight for, take on a brand-new Battle Pass and return to Steel Hunter this month

Icons for many decades, G.I. JOE and the villainous forces of Cobra are making their way into World of Tanks to do battle! From today, tankers will be able to get their hands on two extra special 3D styles: one for the TS-5 (G.I. JOE Team) and one for the T-54 first prototype (Cobra). Alongside these unique 3D styles, players will also get legendary decals featuring the G.I. JOE M.O.B.A.T. and the Cobra H.I.S.S., both iconic to kids around the world.

But there’s more. Players will be able to take on a special set of missions to earn unique emblems and inscriptions, as well as Personal Reserves. For pledging allegiance to the good guys, tankers will get the famous G.I. JOE logo as an inscription for their vehicles, whereas those who side with the evil forces will get Cobra emblems. These missions will run from today until March 26th.

Additionally, starting March 15th, a new Battle Pass season will be starting in World of Tanks. The fourth season will run until June 16th and features some key differences when compared to previous iterations. Season 4 will be made up of 3 chapters, each with 50 stages, and the main reward of each chapter will be a collectable 3D style for the Object 705A, the T110E3 and the 121 medium tank, respectively. Also, unlike previous seasons, tankers will be able to earn Battle Pass points in Random Battles, Ranked Battles and Steel Hunter, as well as through Daily Missions. There’s plenty more to be discovered, but World of Tanks is keeping some secrets up their sleeves for now.

At the same time, Steel Hunter 2021 will also be kicking off, running until March 22nd . For the first time, Steel Hunter won’t have its own progression. Instead, players will receive Battle Pass points, which will be based on a tanker’s battle results and for completing battle missions within Steel Hunter. Tankers will be able to see just how many points they reaped in the Battle Results screen.

We Are The Caretakers Defends the World on Steam Early Access on Earth Day

We Are The Caretakers Defends the World on Steam Early Access on Earth Day

10% of Game’s Revenues Support Wildlife Conservation Network

ANN ARBOR, MI – March 14, 2021 – We Are The Caretakers, the sci-fi turn-based tactical RPG set in an afrofuturist world from developer Heart Shaped Games, begins its mission to protect endangered species on Steam Early Access for PC on Earth Day, Thursday, April 22, as revealed at Game Dev Direct. Heart Shaped Games is proud to announce that 10% of its revenues from the game will go to the Wildlife Conservation Network’s Rhino Recovery Fund.

The Planet finds itself in turmoil as aliens make first contact, and show particular interest in the Raun, a rhino-like species targeted by high-tech poachers. Step into the shoes of the Conductor, sworn protector of the people and land of Shadra, who rallies Caretakers to protect the Raun before poachers drive them to extinction.

Deploy squads of Caretakers onto real-time strategy maps with RPG turn-based combat in either the story-rich campaign or through the challenging procedurally generated Survival mode. Each squad features characters from one of 20-plus job classes utilizing some of the more than 70 abilities as they fight against poachers and other threats to the Raun, where extinction represents a catastrophic, game-ending failure for the Caretakers.

We Are The Caretakers’ afrofuturist vision combines elements of synthetic and organic sci-fi created by art director Anthony Jones (former cinematics artist at Activision Blizzard) and narrative director Xalavier Nelson Jr. (IGF nominee, narrative director for Hypnospace Outlaw). Core pillars of real-world anti-poaching guide gameplay strategy, with a soundtrack combining epic orchestras, African instrument samples, and modern hip-hop beats.

We Are The Caretakers will extend its efforts on conservation not just from awareness, but toward making a financial impact to organizations conserving Earth. Heart Shaped Games’ first initiative will donate 10% of the game’s revenue to the Wildlife Conservation Network. This organization protects wildlife all around the world, such as through the Rhino Recovery Fund, which focuses on improving the health of rhino populations while also benefiting local people.

“Our goal with We Are The Caretakers is to raise awareness about conservation in a way that would engage people with the issue,” said Scott Brodie, founder, Heart Shaped Games. “This is a science fiction story, but the issues the Conductor and The Caretakers face are present in the real world right now, and we hope it causes you to think about how we’re taking care of the world we live in.”

We Are The Caretakers joins Steam Early Access for Windows PC on Earth Day, Thursday, April 22 for $19.99 with a 20% launch discount, and support for English language text, with French, German, Spanish (Spain), Japanese, and more translations in development.
