Dystopian Sci-Fi City-Builder Sphere – Flying Cities Gets a Launch Date and Teaser Trailer

Leave Earth in the past and ascend to the heavens in humanity’s last hope for survival

Wiesbaden, Germany – 28th July 2022. It’s nearly time to ascend to the cloudscape, because today, indie publisher Assemble Entertainment revealed a 20th September 2022, launch date for Sphere – Flying Cities, the one-of-a-kind sci-fi survival game leaving Early Access and coming to Steam and GOG

Unlike your typical post-apocalyptic city-builder, Sphere – Flying Cities introduces a unique plot twist: humanity’s last bastion isn’t on the decimated surface of Earth but in the skies! Utilizing novel anti-gravity technology, players manage the well-being of humanity’s last inhabitants in their very first flying city.

Soar through the sky as the denizens of the arial city rebuild, restructure, and protect the last semblance of society. Additionally, the full release of this sky-faring sci-fi title will see new features such as a fully fleshed-out story campaign, six new building blueprints to discover, a completely revamped tutorial, and a terrifying new threat — ice storms.

Check out the newest trailer:

About Sphere – Flying Cities

Inspired by James Blish’s novel “City in Flight”, Sphere – Flying Cities employs a distinct mix of strategy, survival, and city-building simulation elements. Players are put in the position of Commander, whose sole purpose is to maintain order and see to the survival of mankind. In the near future, the planet is thrown into turmoil when Earth’s moon is struck by a colossal asteroid. In the wake of this destruction, the world’s surface is rendered totally uninhabitable. Facing complete annihilation, humanity makes one final and desperate attempt to survive — thanks to newly-created anti-gravity technology, the first (and likely final) faction of flying cities ascends as the ultimate bastion of the human race.

Key Features

  • A City in the Clouds: Construct your city with numerous retro-futuristic buildings, utilize the resources available from the unique sky-vironment, and send out drones to harvest (sometimes rare!) resources and repair buildings to keep everyone’s head in the clouds
  • The Sky’s the Limit: The anti-gravity device and its deflector-shield are the only things protecting the city from (un)natural disasters; maintaining it means the difference between life and certain doom
  • For the Greater Good: Assuring the safety of your city’s denizens is of paramount importance — tend to their needs by supplying food, healthcare, and shelter, as well as undergoing rescue missions. However, keep in mind that you won’t be able to save every building – nor every colonist.
  • Write Your Own Story: Each decision you make, turn you take, and building you create chronicles your own narrative in this compelling near-apocalypse scenario. Define your experience by the paths you follow and determine how your city’s story ends.

Developed by Hexagon Sphere Games and published by Assemble Entertainment, Sphere – Flying Cities is available now on Steam Early Access and GOG for £14.99 / €17.99 and will launch fully on 20th September 2022. Add the game to your wishlist here.

Keeping in line with their philanthropic nature, Assemble Entertainment has partnered with Atmosfair, an environmental development organization that focuses on clean energy climate protection projects, to offer a unique Save the World edition of the game. Including a mini-artbook and in-game cosmetics, a portion of this edition’s profits go directly to the charity.

The Survival Horror RPG Chernobylite Celebrates its 1-year Launch Anniversary with a Free DLC, 30% Discount, and a Limited Edition Black Stalker Plushie!

Download Chernobylite Short Story: The Arrival for free, take advantage of a week-long promotion, and support the crowdfunding campaign to help bring the Black Stalker plushie to life.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – July 28th, Kraków, Poland.

A year has passed since the survival horror RPG Chernobylite launch, and what a year it’s been! Both The Farm 51 and All in! Games have worked hard on constantly updating the game and enhancing it with free and paid content to make sure Chernobylite is everything gamers wanted it to be. After 365 days and 7,360 Steam reviews resulting in a “Very Positive” rating, it’s time to sum up what both teams have achieved.

During this past year, Chernobylite was not only enriched with a new map, a new weapon, and a new game mode, but gamers also had new types of monsters to face, plenty of skins to choose from, and dozens of new side missions and activities to enjoy.

As usual, the developers don’t plan to stop there and have already planned new content to be added to the game by the end of this year. That content starts with a digital narrative called Chernobylite Short Story: The Arrival, featuring Sashko – the main protagonist’s companion – now available for free on Steam and GOG. You’ll also be able to get the base game and all its previously released DLCs for 30% off during a week-long promotion starting on August 1st.

The Farm 51 has also prepared a special surprise to celebrate the anniversary and launched a crowdfunding campaign on Makeship to bring to life the one and only Black Stalker plushie! The campaign will last until August 25th and will be the only chance to get this limited, 16-cm-tall, fluffy mascot that comes with a blaster and a backpack. While 0% radioactive, it’s 1000% sweet and will most certainly raise the cuteness overload alerts in your house.

There’s also good news for those of you who are less into gaming goodies and more into tech. Starting today, Chernobylite now supports AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 on DX12

Video Preview

Dinkum is a life sim inspired by Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon, and the Australian outback. Created by solo developer James Bendon, the game is available now on Steam Early Access and is expected to remain there for the next 12 months.

The game takes the player from the grey South City to a sunny island where our steadfast leader Fletch plans to create a new town and convince visitors to stay. The writing isn’t too serious or deep. The conversations are decently written. There’s a bit of slang slipped in that helps reinforce the Australian theme of the game. But really, the crowning moment of Dinkum’s Australian roots is the character that pays tribute to the legendary Steve Irwin.

At its core, Dinkum is a vision of what Animal Crossing would be if the storied franchise took on elements from modern sandbox games and then placed it all in the Australian outback. Dinkum adds things like vehicles, hunting, exploring, and animal rearing to bring more variety to the genre that Animal Crossing created. While Dinkum is shooting for breadth over depth in terms of game mechanics, all the extra variation is a huge hit as it breathes in some much-needed life into the gameplay loop.

The map is large enough to keep players occupied right now, though it could be expanded a little. The physical size is at a good spot though there is room for a small size increase. The biome balance is almost there. An extra biome would hit the right spot as a few of the existing biomes, especially the bushland, is just a touch too large.

Dinkum offers an in-depth skill and crafting system using their licensing mechanics. Later crafting recipes require players to purchase the appropriate license tier to unlock. Players get Permit Points by completing regular actions or one of the three daily bonuses. Earning enough Permit Points for the first level licenses is not too hard, especially if the player is tackling a variety of activities. On the other hand, getting the experience to progress into later permit tiers is where Dinkum becomes a bit grind heavy.

There is some combat in Dinkum. Larger animals will defend themselves when attacked and certain animals like the crocodile are hostile to any nearby creature. Once players purchase the hunting license and can craft weapons, they’ll be equipped to gather their own meat instead of scavenging remains of animal brawls. Combat is very simple. The most reliable tactic is to strafe in a circle around the target until it is still for a couple of seconds after an attack and then take a few pokes before strafing around to dodge the next attack. It would be nice if a few creatures in the future provide a different attack pattern that would encourage a larger variety of combat tactics.

The learning curve in Dinkum is decent but could use some improvement. The initial tutorial covers the absolute basics and gets players going in a reasonable amount of time. The problem is there are a lot of activities in the game and no proper tutorial for some of the less straight forward activities like fishing. It would be nice to see a small tooltip with instructions pop up for the first few attempts with more detailed instructions available in the game menu.

The user experience is okay. The controls are simple and straight forward. I hope to see some quality-of-life features added as development progresses. For example, it would be nice if resource processing machines would keep the new item inside and offer the player a pick-up button when processing is complete. Currently, items will get thrown out into the world and can get lost if a lot of machines are packed in a tight area. I suspect I have also had items despawn on me when I left the area while I waited for the item to process.

The audio/visual experience in Dinkum is excellent. The game pays tribute to Animal Crossing while putting a distinct Australian spin to the presentation. The sound effects, the gibberish voice used by NPCs, and the art design bring a familiar element to the game. The environments and the creatures give the game enough of an Australian twist to make the presentation unique to Dinkum.

It’d be easy to mistake Dinkum for a full release as there’s a ton of content already, and the game is packed with features. There is some room for polish, and no one will ever argue against more content, but I am impressed with how addictive the game is in its current state. There is already a lot to see and do, and the road map is promising so much more. Fans of Animal Crossing who long dreamed about a PC release have something better shaping up in Dinkum.

Recommended – Dinkum offers so much to see and do that fans of the Animal Crossing franchise might stop daydreaming about a PC release

Hunt: Showdown’s Biggest Live Event Ever, “Serpent Moon,” Launches Today!

Experience a deadly supernatural snake infestation, new gameplay, a brand-new Legendary Hunter, and the most rewards ever for a Hunt event

FRANKFURT, Germany – July 27, 2022 Hunt: Showdown‘s biggest-ever live event, “Serpent Moon,” starts today on PC and consoles. Running for 60 days, the event features “Viper,” a brand-new evolving Legendary Hunter, plus new gameplay, additional story, and much more.

Serpent Moon Trailer:

Running for 60 days until September 25, the “Serpent Moon” live event brings a supernatural infestation of snakes to the bayou. Deadly serpents appear in snake dens throughout the bayou, and players must capture snakes and sacrifice them on altars. However, these snakes will attack Hunters if they make too much noise on their approach, so players must balance the reward of greater event points, and greater rewards, for looting and sacrificing snakes against a lower amount of event points for simply destroying them.

Hunters will be able to equip three new Event Traits to help them. “Beastface” reduces the reaction range of snakes, allowing players to get closer. “Serpent” increases the distance at which snake sacrifices can be made, and “Poison Sense” will identify nearby poisoned players when using Dark Sight. Players will also be rewarded for investigating event clues and rifts, eliminating bosses and more.

Weapons and Blood Bonds are just some of the rewards up for grabs in the event, which continues the narrative from the previous “Traitor’s Moon” live event. After events unfold in the bayou during the event, audiobooks will be released on popular streaming platforms and Hunt‘s social media channels so fans can listen to the story, too.

All players who join the “Serpent Moon” event will be able to play with a new Legendary Hunter, “Viper.” In a first for Hunt, this unique character will visually evolve through different stages as players progress. The number of stages Viper will evolve through depends on the player’s chosen pathway. A new battle pass system – “The Gilded Path” – will enable gamers to choose from free, standard, and premium pathways.

The free option offers two stages of Viper’s progression, plus the opportunity to earn weapons and Blood Bonds during the event. The standard Gilded Path battle pass provides everything in the free tier, four stages of Viper’s evolution to experience, more weapons and rewards to unlock, and Blood Bond cashback. The premium Gilded Path tier offers everything from the standard Gilded Path option plus 3,000 Event points to speed up progress. Whichever pathway players choose, they are guaranteed two new weapons: the Romero 77 Alamo “Coluber” shotgun and the “Snakeshot” Sparks Pistol!

All players can earn up to 11 rewards during the 60 days of the “Serpent Moon.” Boosters, Blood Bonds, and weapons are up for grabs, including the “Antosha” Caldwell Conversion Chain Pistol and the “Lucidus” Vetterli 71 Karabiner Silencer. Players who choose to play with the standard and premium Gilded Path battle pass will be able to unlock a further 17 rewards, including the new “Snake Oil Ward” antidote shot and the Winfield M1873 Swift rifle “Slither.”

Launching alongside the Serpent Moon event on Steam is a ‘Serpent Moon’ bundle, which includes “They Came from Salem” and the brand-new DLC “The Prescient” – which when players play as these Hunters they will benefit from an event point boost – plus new Legendary Weapons. Players can receive a further event boost with three new Event Traits that can be stacked with the activation of new Mr. Chary’s Contracts.

Hunt: Showdown is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Players can find out more about the latest live event and the game by visiting www.huntshowdown.com.

In the classic game mode, a match of Hunt pits 12 players—playing solo or in teams of two or teams of three —against each other as they race to take out gruesome beasts for a bounty they must collect and get off of the map. Hunt‘s quickplay mode offers a shorter match for solo players to scavenge for weapons as they compete for a diminishing pool of bounty. The higher the risk, the higher the reward–but a single mistake could cost everything. For more information, visit www.huntshowdown.com.
