The best titles of the year and the indie hits of the coming years 

Cologne, July 17th – Once again this year, the Indie Arena Booth (IAB) at gamescom offers the largest selection of the best indie titles of the year, where everyone is guaranteed to find what they are looking for. Over 160 titles from 37 countries have made it into the curated line-up and can be played by all visitors in hall 10.2, booth F010g – E019.

From action to contemplation, everything is offered: Those who like an adrenaline rush can turn the hordes of hell into kindling in the best Diablo style in Jötunnslayer: Hordes of Hel or escape from the Bastille in the bullet time platforming shooter Sacre Bleu. Or perhaps it could be Somber Echoes, a Metroidvania in a Greco-Roman spaceship?

Those who like it cozy, on the other hand, will also find what they are looking for, with very different approaches to the theme of comfort. Running a fantasy pub in Tavern Talk and looking for true love at the same time? That’s possible. Or how about making as much mess as possible as a chunky little pomeranian in Doronko Wanko? In Winter Burrow, on the other hand, you have to build a home as a small rodent and give your life meaning.

There are games that are worth a look for their art style alone: Keylocker mixes anime design with cyberpunk pixel optics, 30 Birds is inspired by Persian art and the historical-surreal fantasy world of Hieronymus is based on the work of the great master, Hieronymus Bosch himself.

But story-writting is not neglected either, and from Moses and Plato – Last Train to Clawville, a detective adventure with unsuspecting fox detectives, to the historical courtroom drama The Darkest Files and a melancholy journey through post-apocalyptic Seoul in Goodbye Seoul, fans of narrative games will get their money’s worth.

This year’s “Games that defy categorization” category includes Henry Halfhead, a game about the life story of half a head, or the wild adventures of a jellyfish who is abandoned by his wife and led astray by a drug-addicted magician (Netherworlds), as well as the rhythm puzzle platformer ANTRO, in which a nihilistic parcel delivery man runs parkour to the sound of hip hop and electro.

And there’s also a game about the suffering of game designers, in which players can finally experience for themselves what it’s like to fix bugs, add features and get one step closer to the release date…

As befits a world-class showcase, there are of course also some world premieres to marvel at. Playable for the first time ever are ChromaGun 2: Dye Hard, Morriton Manor Stories: Nordic Whispers, The Merlies and Usual June, as well as long-awaited fan favorites such as Slay the Princess – The Pristine Cut or Yes your Grace: Snowfall and many more. The studio has released a new gameplay trailer – giving players a taste of what to expect from the strategic city-builder

[Paris, France 25th July 2024] – French development studio 5PM Studio proudly announces unique strategy city-builder, Memoriapolis, will launch into Early Access via Steam on 29th August 2024. To celebrate the announcement the studio has released a brand-new gameplay trailer.  

Memoriapolis’ innovative approach to city-building challenges the player to become both a visionary urban planner as well as a political leader. Players are tasked with wisely guiding their metropolis throughout four ages of history from a modest explorer’s camp at the beginning of Antiquity to a Capital of Capitals in the Age of Enlightenment.

BLEACH Rebirth of Souls, the new video game based on the legendary franchise created by Tite Kubo reveals more about its gameplay and how players will be able to defeat their foes using all the different ways the game can let them get the upper hand or reverse the course of a fight.
