Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy — A detailed look at the Closed Beta

A deep investigation system, individual-morale combat, five archetypes, including the new Mystic, and ten companions to recruit

Nicosia, Cyprus (June 17, 2026) | Today, Owlcat Games shared a detailed look inside the Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy Closed Beta, now available to all Founder’s Pack owners on PC. The Closed Beta opens the game’s complete first Act — around 20 hours of investigations, combat encounters, and companion recruitment in the Imperial sector of Scintilla — and reveals the systems through which the Acolytes of the Inquisition pursue heresy across the Calixis Sector.

The blog post detailing what players will encounter during the Closed Beta:
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/3710600/view/710026912607504543

At the centre of Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy sits a dedicated investigation system. Acolytes gather evidence across multiple locations, interview witnesses, and cross-reference their findings in an in-game journal that flags contradictions as they emerge. Companions can be consulted mid-mission to apply their specialist knowledge to a stalled lead. When the investigation concludes, the player resolves it by either uncovering the literal truth of what occurred or by assigning blame in a manner that better serves the Inquisition’s long-term objectives. Both paths carry consequences.

Ten companions are recruitable across the Closed Beta, each carrying a unique background ability nobody else can replicate. Acolytes can travel, among others, with the Eldar Wayseeker Laarthyr Cairnareth, the Kroot Ra’akhti, an Adeptus Mechanicus tech-priest, an Ogryn warrior, a Pariah whose presence shuts down every psychic power in her zone of influence, and Aspice Chorda of the Chorda Dynasty — a name familiar to Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader veterans.

Combat has been rebuilt around purpose. Encounters in the Closed Beta carry secondary objectives beyond simply defeating every enemy on the field: hostages to rescue, targets to capture alive for interrogation, warp rifts to seal before they spread. Supporting that approach is a new individual morale system replacing Rogue Trader‘s shared momentum, an immediate zone of influence around every combatant, an interruptible concentration mechanic for major enemy actions, and armor that functions as a separate resource pool. Acolytes who break an enemy squad’s morale completely can end an encounter without a single kill, choosing to execute the survivors or take them in for questioning.

The beta also contains character creation. Players may choose from five Tier-1 archetypes — Warrior, Officer, Operative, Soldier, and the new Mystic archetype for sanctioned psykers — along with four origins, three home worlds, and nine body types. Specialisations replace Rogue Trader‘s broader talent pool, while ability modifications layer long-term depth onto the build. The Sanctioned Psyker origin also stands on its own, leaving room for unconventional acolytes such as a Warrior who manipulates the warp or a Soldier with a sanctioned gift.

The Closed Beta will remain open until the game’s release, and player feedback collected throughout will inform the final build. Founder’s Pack owners can access the Closed Beta through the official website.

Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy will launch on Windows PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store) and consoles (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S).

PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS Enhances Ranked System in Update 42.1

Update 42.1 introduces survival-focused RP adjustments, new consecutive placement bonuses, and a revamped Workshop probability structure designed to improve the overall player experience.

EL SEGUNDO, CALIF. – June 17, 2026KRAFTON, Inc. has released Update 42.1 for PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, introducing improvements to the Ranked system.

Ranked Season 42 will run for three months, longer than usual, as part of preparations for the upcoming Ranked revamp. The update introduces adjustments to the Rank Point (RP) system with a greater emphasis on survival, one of the core elements of Battle Royale gameplay. Final placement now carries greater weight in RP calculations, and additional RP can be earned by achieving high placements in consecutive matches. Secret Rooms have also been added to Ranked and Custom Matches – Esports Mode.

Black Market 2026 has also arrived with a revamped reward structure. As outlined in the 2026 Roadmap, PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS has removed the previous two-step probability structure involving Loot Caches and Prime Parcels. Players can now obtain Progressive weapon skins and other rewards directly from a single Cargo. A new Workshop page, Supply Bay, has also been introduced, bringing the full Cargo experience, from opening Cargo and viewing results to claiming milestone rewards, into one streamlined flow. Returning Progressive weapon skins include Demon’s Touch – ACE32, Rest in Pink – Dragunov, Yule Sleigh – Mini14, and Neon Dream – AUG, along with newly released Chromas.

The Blue Zone system has also been updated. In Normal Match, the Blue Zone has been adjusted to create more room for late-game engagements while maintaining the overall match duration. In Ranked, select phase timings have been shortened to improve match pacing, while Safe Zone placement adjustments have been reduced to increase unpredictability. Blue Zone damage now scales based on the amount of time spent inside the Blue Zone, rather than distance from the Safe Zone.

Additional updates include the introduction of Interactive Smoke, the new PUBG Nations Cup (PNC) Fantasy League, SLR balance adjustments, and the limited-time Ally Duo mode in Arcade.

More details on Update 42.1 can be found on the official PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS website at https://pubg.com/en/news/10179

Funky Can Creative Announces TeaKnights, a Y2K-Inspired Musical Rail Shooter Now in Development

First revealed through Funky Can Creative’s official announcement post, TeaKnights marks a new journey for the studio as it develops its own Sin & Punishment-style musical rail-shooter, built around low-poly 3D graphics, fast arcade movement, and a vivid audiovisual identity.

The announcement quickly drew attention online, with the reveal post receiving more than 4.3K likes within 24 hours. The project was also covered by Japanese games outlet Game*Spark, which highlighted TeaKnights as a low-poly 3D rail shooter inspired by classics such as Sin & Punishment and Star Fox 64.

A New Musical Action Game from the Creators of PopSlinger

With TeaKnights, Funky Can Creative is expanding beyond the soda-and-coffee-fueled 2D action of PopSlinger into a new 3D action direction. The game blends rail-shooter mechanics with the studio’s love for music, stylish presentation, and expressive character-driven worlds.

Rather than being only a 1990s throwback, TeaKnights leans into a broader Y2K-inspired identity: low-poly 3D visuals, early-2000s digital attitude, retro-pop color, arcade speed, and the kind of playful audiovisual energy that shaped a generation of games, anime, and music culture.

“After PopSlinger, we wanted to begin a new journey while keeping the same expressive spirit that defines what we do,” said Jose Luis Abreu, Director of Funky Can Creative. “TeaKnights is our own take on the musical rail shooter — fast, stylish, low-poly, and full of the Y2K energy that shaped so much of what we love about games and pop culture. Seeing the first reaction from fans and Japanese press has been incredibly encouraging.”

Follow Development on Patreon

It is designed as a space for fans who want to follow the creative process beyond trailers, screenshots, and public announcements.

How are those at all like a 1980s turn-based, grid-locked dungeon crawler that you can play in the command line with vim control bindings? They have ‘randomness’? Pathetic. And here I am, part of the problem. Might as well call it a Metroidvania too.”
