Modern Warfare 3’s Spec Ops Survival mode given a video

While some people are still playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer today, there are others who are still enamored with the game’s Spec Ops mode which put players up against certain tasks. Well there is good news for those who loved Modern Warfare 2’s Spec Ops mode, there will be a new type of gameplay in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s Spec Ops, and it is called Survival mode.

The Survival Spec Ops missions look like they will be placing you and your co-op partner together against wave after wave of enemy and you must survive as long as possible while killing everything in sight. The video below shows not only plenty of AI bad guys dying but plenty of awesome looking ways to do it, like a smoke grenade to tell a gunship where to fire on the enemy. But you best watch out for the attack dogs with explosives strapped to their bodies.

Walmarts 3DS $170 price drop begins today

This is for all of you who may have already forgotten, but Walmart had plans to drop the Nintendo 3DS price a few days ahead of schedule, despite what Nintendo may have wanted. The day they planned for is of course, today. Which means that right now for those of us in the United States we could pick up the Nintendo 3DS for only $169.99 and still be able to enter the 3DS Ambassador program for cheaper than everyone else.

The ambassadors will receive twenty free games and the price drop was meant to happen on August 12th. This means that if you are able to connect your 3DS to the eShop before Friday and register it online, Nintendo will offer you the free games without a question asked it seems. All Walmarts in my area are honoring the early price drop, though it is recommended to still call ahead.

Dead Island Co-op trailer teaches us its best to fight together

Dead Island is more than just about killing zombies. Not really, it is totally about killing zombies but what better way to do it than to kill with your friends while you work together to survive. This experience is finally going to be coming to our homes soon because Dead Island has gotten the gold seal of zombie approval which means it is ready for its release date on September 6th.

To commemorate this event the crazy people over at Deep Silver have released a new trailer for the game and it focuses on zombies chicks in bikinis, I mean on co-operative action. You know what they say; “Survive together, die alone.” Catch the trailer below and get your zombie killing arm ready for the chaos in just under a month!

GameFly is a service that already provides plenty of enjoyment to its consumers through their easy to use game rental service. It seems that service may be getting even better as the subscription focused video game rental giant is going to be expanding into digital PC gaming. This news comes a few months after it was revealed that they had acquired Direct2Drive from IGN.

ShackNews, a company owned by GameFly has revealed that the service will use their own digital client to offer a “a large and ever-growing collection of titles” that will be available for both PC users and Mac. The rental service will be known as PC Unlimited Play and the service will allow users to download and play games as much as they would like. Users will organize and share their game libraries and can queue their downloads the same as mail rentals. There will be a closed beta beginning on September 8th, which you can sign-up for here if you are a Gamefly subscriber.

Persona 2: Innocent Sin to be published by Ghostlight in Europe

Looks like everyone in Europe and other PAL using regions can breathe a small sigh of relief because it has just been confirmed that Persona 2: Innocent Sin will be released to their regions. The publisher responsible for bringing this Atlus PSP title to PAL territories is none other than Ghostlight.

In a conversation with Destructoid they revealed that they not only are aiming to bring the game out to more fans, but they are also trying to bring it out right alongside the North American release date. For those who don’t know Persona 2: Innocent Sin was originally released back in 1999 in Japan and was never localized for Western release, making this a major release for fans of the Persona series despite its age.

Anarchy Reigns’ Durga is all about tigers and leg cannons

Anarchy Reigns is already home to a number of different characters and most of them have plenty of eccentricities that make them unique from your standard playable character. But I don’t think a single one of them can even hold a candle to the newly revealed character named Durga.

Earlier today Sega revealed the trailer, which you can see below, that not only shows off Durga’s outfit but also his abilities. The man sports a tiger styled wardrobe complete with a tail, a nearly white looking spiked haircut and even two robotic looking feet that are claw footed. To top it all off he even has a revolver cannon sitting in his leg. Needless to say I believe that I have found my favorite character when Anarchy Reigns releases some time next year.

Kingdom Hearts 3D and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Playable at TGS

So what will Square Enix be showing at its booth during TGS? We already know Final Fantasy Versus XIII won’t be around, Assassin’s Creed Revelations is confirmed, but what else? In this weeks Dengeki Playstation, Director Tetsuya Nomura revealed the company plans on having playable versions of Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Type-0, Kingdom Hearts 3D and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy.

XIII-2 was already playable at E3, and Type-0 will get a downloadable demo soon. But TGS will probably be the first chance to get hands-on time with other flagship games, Kingdom Hearts 3D and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy.

Nomura had strong praise for KH3D, mentioning that the quality is on par with console games. KH3D will also have controllable cutscenes, which sounds interesting in theory, but we all know that’s been done plenty of times in other games.

Kingdom Hearts 3D is expected early next year, but Nomura also said to expect Theatrhythm, a project on which he’s serving as creative producer. He referred to the title as the first Final Fantasy 25th anniversary release, suggesting that more could be on the way.

It’s an RPG onslaught from Square Enix at an interesting time for the company, their recent track record isn’t indicative of the brands reputation, so hopefully they’re coming out all guns blazing and looking to kill the JRPG’s decline.

Resistance 3 Heading To Alice Springs

In Resistance: Fall of Man, players travel across Great Britain. The setting shifts to the United States for the next two installments. That’s the campaign settings in a nutshell. In multiplayer, however, Resistance 3 is heading to the Alice.

Insomniac has included Australia’s most central city in its multiplayer as a playable map. It does contains several buildings, which means high vantage points, but the main focus will be on the street and a dusty car yard, which means expect to get close… real close.

Below is why Insomniac has decided to include the red centre as a map for multiplayer, even including a bit of back story on how the Alice came to be this way:

Australia has always had an interesting place in the lore of Resistance, being the site of a gigantic refugee camp called Avalon One, and for years remaining a safe Haven even as Europe fell.

Unfortunately, the enormous amount of refugees strained food supplies, and Civil War erupted in 1952. Eventually, as with everywhere else on the planet, the Chimera arrived. Now the remnants of civilisation on the continent fight back in one of the most inhospitable climates to the Chimeran menace.

The Alice Springs map is an Insomniac favourite for its small town feel, with many small interiors perfect for close-quarters combat.
