League of Legends offers $5 million as prize in Season Two

The second season of League of Legends is starting soon, and when it ends, one person will walk away with $5 million cool bucks. As one of the biggest eSports ever, League of Legends is going all out to make their second competitive season one to remember.

“Season One of League of Legends was a resounding success, with over 1.7 million viewers tuning in to our first-ever championships,” said Marc Merrill, president of Riot Games and executive producer on League of Legends. “The competitive scene in League of Legends has grown like wildfire, and the five million dollars in prize money on the line is a testament to how massive the scene has become and is just the first glimpse of what our players have in store for the upcoming season!”

“Competitive gaming is hard-coded in Riot’s DNA. It’s been thrilling to watch the level of competitive play that evolved in Season One!” said Brandon Beck, CEO of Riot Games. “Players will certainly step up their game in Season Two – so it’s only fair that we step up ours.”

Harmonix is developing an iOS app- Who isn’t?

VidRhythm is a project from the Rock Band developer Harmonix and it will be hitting iOS soon. According to an interview on Gamasutra,
Harmonix co-founder and CEO Alex Rigopulos said, “We think there are a lot of creative opportunities [with smartphones] that we haven’t really been able to focus on yet. So we’re looking forward to doing more in that space.” According to Harmonix, the app will not really be a game, but it will function as something else. Alex continued, “It will actually be our first iOS release as a studio, coming out relatively soon. I can’t say anything yet about what it is, but in parallel with all these huge console game productions we have underway, we’re commencing our first iOS development project.” Hopefully, we’ll be able to get some less vague details on their project soon.

Worms start playing Crazy Golf on PSN and Steam

Team 17’s violent little worms will be turning their guns into golf clubs and their bombs into golf balls starting later this year. Coming to PSN, Steam, and iOS gadgets, the Worms will still retain a lot of their classic features, like sheep, magnets and mines, with the added addition of mean old women. Plus, there will be obstacles like “castles that teleport your ball, cannons that shoot it across the landscape and even obstructive comedy bats! Only skillful shot execution and clever use of special powers such as the parachute ball, or the ability to slow time down will see you hit par and progress to the next hole.”

“We’ve had a great deal of fun playing the game in multiplayer during development,” head of design John Dennis said in the announcement, “and with four-player social multiplayer support, it has all the hallmarks of the Worms brand: the trash-talking, pressure to make the shot, terribly unhelpful ‘advice’ from opponents, and often hilarious consequences when that risky shot that could have won the game goes terribly wrong. If players get half as much enjoyment out of it as we’ve already had, then we’ll be very, very happy.”

“Who could have known that two of our favourite things would work so well together?” says Team 17 Head of Design John Dennis, in his finest chequered trousers and snazzy sweater. “While probably not an obvious combination, Worms Crazy Golf is an irreverent mash-up of our own turn-based strategy game “Worms” and everyone’s favourite turn-based game of ‘hitting little balls with sticks’.”

Gears of War 3 can be played in 3D – So, 33D?

This will be coming AT YOUR FACE!

Gears of War 3 is jumping on the 3D bandwagon. According to Epic, “Gears of War 3” uses Darkworks’ TriOviz technology, which is integrated with Unreal Engine 3, for stereoscopic 3D support. All “Gears of War 3″ gameplay and cinematics have S3D support, and this extends to split-screen play as well.” However, playing the game in 3D will result in a loss of some graphical details, as with all games released in 3D. According to an interview with Eurogamer, Rod Fergusson also believes that 3D gaming will be making a huge surge in Xbox games soon. He says:”As you look forward, in the next [Xbox Development Kit] coming out of the Xbox, it’ll have more support for 3D or more higher quality for native support for 3D,” Fergusson said. “Moving forward, the Xbox will be able to take it further.” Undoubtedly, the Unreal Engine developed by Epic will also soon be updated for 3D.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution TV commercial hits the web

Today Eidos and Square Enix released a short trailer for Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The reason it is short of course is because it is likely what you will be seeing when you see a commercial for Deus Ex on your television screen. The very nice background music that the trailer is set to is called “My World” by the music group named Transmission.

In this trailer we see a lot of brief but intense footage of multiple animals fighting and then finally some awesome footage from the game. If this trailer didn’t sell you on the game on its own, then you may need to check your gamer license at the door. Deus Ex: Human Revolution will be released next week on August 23rd for the PlayStation 3, PC, and Xbox 360.
