Sid Meier’s Civilization VII Debuts Epic Opening Cinematic at The Game Awards 2024

Live orchestra performs music by GRAMMY award-winning composer Christopher Tin; watch the full version of the trailer below 

2K and Firaxis Games debuted today the in-game opening cinematic to Sid Meier’s Civilization VII at The Game Awards 2024. During the show, in-person attendees were treated to an epic live orchestral performance accompanying the cinematic, featuring music specially composed by GRAMMY® award-winning composer Christopher Tin.

Voiced-over by Civilization VII-narrator Gwendoline Christie (“Game of Thrones,” “Star Wars” franchise), the opening cinematic takes viewers on a journey through the Ages. As a lone farmer uncovers a buried and rusted saber, we see its history unfold. The saber passes from one generation to the next, across different cultures and regions of the world, illuminating a central theme of the game – that history is built in layers. In addition to the opening cinematic, the main theme for Civilization VII, “Live Gloriously,” was also revealed. Composer Christopher Tin shares: “With ‘Live Gloriously,’ I wanted to capture universal themes of hope, heroism and mortality that have resonated across history. You’ll hear words from The IliadBeowulfPopol Vuh and Ramayana, delivering a beautiful sense of gravity and emotion that embodies the story of humanity.”

The First Shield of Rosaria was Revealed as the Game’s First Guest Character at The Game Awards, where TEKKEN 8 also took Home Honors for Best Fighting Game

Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe revealed today Clive Rosfield from FINAL FANTASY XVI as the first guest character coming to TEKKEN™ 8. The main protagonist from the epic entry in the FINAL FANTASY series will join the roster as the next DLC playable character with a 72-hour early access for Playable Character Year 1 Pass holder beginning 16th December, 2024, and officially releasing on 19th December. This marks the fourth DLC playable character since the game’s launch in January of this year, rounding out the thrilling lineup for its debut season. TEKKEN 8 is available now on PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam®.

In addition to Clive Rosfield, the new battle stage PHOENIX GATE is also introduced in TEKKEN 8, a pivotal location from FINAL FANTASY XVI where tragic events reshaped the destiny of the game’s main character. The stage’s destruction, brought to life through Eikons and stunning special effects, mirrors key moments of his journey to confront his past.

Clive Rosfield and the PHOENIX GATE battle stage will be available for players that have the Deluxe, Ultimate Edition, or Deluxe Edition Upgrade Pack which contains the Playable Character Year 1 Pass. Both are also purchasable separately or as a bundle.

Capping off an exciting night for fans, TEKKEN 8 also took home the award for Best Fighting Game of 2024 at The Game Awards. Meet the Baron: an emotionless, calculating, but brilliant scientist. Brace yourself to encounter the biggest threat Kyle Crane has ever faced – the man who brutally experimented on him for over a decade. His real name is Marius Fischer, the last descendant of a noble big pharma dynasty from Castor Woods.

Convinced that the remnants of humanity who survived the outbreak are weak, he sees it as his moral right and highest duty to restore order. The Witcher IV Revealed at The Game Awards!

CD PROJEKT RED proudly unveiled a first look at The Witcher IV — the first game in the new Witcher saga — at The Game Awards 2024 in Los Angeles with a cinematic trailer.

During this year’s The Game Awards, CD PROJEKT RED offered a first look at The Witcher IV, previously known by its codename Polaris. The game, a successor to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — considered one of the most acclaimed games of all time — marks the beginning of a new Witcher saga with Ciri stepping into the role of the protagonist.

“We’re kicking off a brand-new Witcher saga, this time with Ciri as the heart of the story!” said Sebastian Kalemba, Game Director. “It feels so good to finally be able to say those words — for the longest time we knew that we wanted Ciri to be the protagonist of The Witcher IV; it just felt natural to us and we believe that Ciri deserves it. In the nearly six-minute trailer, viewers were introduced to Ciri, the adopted daughter of Geralt of Rivia, as she takes on a witcher contract in a remote village that has been terrorized for generations by a fearsome monster demanding human sacrifices. Framed as a short, self-contained Witcher story, the trailer showcases Ciri’s new abilities and tools, including a chain and advanced magic powers.

At the heart of the trailer is Ciri’s perspective as an outsider to the village. As the villagers say goodbye to one of their own — a young girl they are preparing for a traditional ritual sacrifice — Ciri chooses to intervene. Aiming to slay the beast and save the girl at the same time, Ciri finds herself at odds with the prejudices and superstitions of the people she tries to protect, leading her to confront a painful witcher lesson: that monsters come in all forms.

The trailer is pre-rendered in a custom build of Unreal Engine 5 on an unannounced NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU. Powered by the same tech that The Witcher IV is built on, using assets and models from the game itself, it aims to provide players with a cinematic look at the kind of experience the game is aspiring to provide. The trailer was created through a close collaboration between CD PROJEKT RED and Platige Image, who are no strangers to The Witcher universe, having been responsible for intro cinematics in the previous installments of the series.

PARIS (Dec. 12, 2024) – NOTE OF INTENT FROM SLOCLAP: “Football is a beautiful game, a precise choreography of bodies in movement. At its core, this game is all about being in the right place, at the right time, and in the right dynamic. And then of course, executing perfectly. 

With Rematch, we’re trying to capture this essence of football and condense it in short, fast-paced 5v5 matches. We felt it was time for a new perspective on this beautiful game: closer to the pitch, closer to the players. The third person camera gives a unique immersion in the ebb and flow of the match: the ball moving away and coming closer, the waves of offense and defense … this is what it feels like to actually play football. 

Like real football, we want Rematch to be a highly cooperative game. Fundamentally, Rematch is about the joy of playing football with friends, of being together in a team. It’s about putting your team first, and how it can be more satisfying to serve the perfect assist than to actually score oneself. We look forward to meeting players on the pitch very soon.” 

The Rematch debut trailer, released today, showcases arcade-inspired online gameplay.

Rematch is set to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC next year. Set in vibrant virtual reality arenas, the gameplay flows with no fouls and no offsides, and the action never stops. Players control only one player on the team in an immersive third person perspective, swapping roles as the situation evolves: from striker to defender, down to a uniquely designed goalkeeper position featuring specific abilities. Each match is an intense showdown, in which players need both split-second reactions and tactical teamplay to prevail. 

Built entirely for online multiplayer, Rematch emphasizes precise and reactive gameplay, balanced for a fair competitive experience. Players can expect a level playing field where skill is the deciding factor: from mastering the aim and shoot mechanics, to timing a powerful volley kick, all the way to reading the game dynamics and making the perfect pass. 

In addition to its competitive 5v5 game mode, the title will offer quickplay game modes, along with fresh seasonal content planned post-launch, including new game modes and unique cosmetic options that allow each player to customize their character with style.

Rematch is expected to be rated E (ESRB) / PEGI 7, with more features planned post-launch – more details to come in 2025.

PARIS (Dec. 12, 2024) – At The Game Awards, indie studio Tactical Adventures unveiled Solasta II, the ambitious sequel to their beloved tabletop-inspired RPG. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, Solasta II is set to launch in Early Access on PC in 2025, with a free playable demo due for release early next year. Tactical Adventures are excited to work with the community once again to refine and shape Solasta II into the ultimate TTRPG experience.

Decades after the events of Solasta: Crown of the Magister (2021), Solasta II transports players to the vibrant high-fantasy realm of Neokos—a land of breathtaking beauty teetering on the edge of ruin at the hands of Shadwyn, an all-powerful being brought to life by Amelia Tyler (Baldur’s Gate 3, Hades II). As her endless tide of corruption spreads across the continent, a band of valiant adventurers rises to the challenge. While navigating towering landscapes to contending with political factions vying for power and fighting fearsome foes, players must make wise decisions to end an ancient feud before it engulfs the lands in bloodshed and strife.

Developed by Bandai Namco Studios, the core theme of the game features a thrilling and visceral new take on the company’s most beloved icon, PAC-MAN. The reveal of SHADOW LABYRINTH unravels the mystery of this new vision for the PAC-MAN franchise as seen in Secret Level, Prime Video’s adult-animated anthology series, as the setting for a 2D action-platformer where players must consume to survive on a hostile alien world. SHADOW LABYRINTH is a broad departure from any previous PAC-MAN game, where players take on the role of another character as protagonist, named Swordsman No. 8. In the game, following the events introduced in the Secret Level animated short, players awaken on an alien planet still ravaged by war and monsters. They quickly encounter PUCK, a mysterious yet recognizable figure who teaches them that their aim in this treacherous world is to escape it, and to achieve that they must consume everything that waits in the darkness to survive – and ultimately become the planet’s apex predator. Drawing even more inspiration from the source material for this unique game, players traverse a maze-filled world where enemies and puzzles new and familiar will challenge them at every step. Success comes from mastery of fluid combat and exploration to uncover increasingly powerful abilities and skills and conquering challenging bosses on to discover their true purpose.

As players progress through SHADOW LABYRINTH and dive deeper into the maze of this mysterious world, they will discover its secrets and learn why PUCK chose them for this task. The game draws even wider inspiration for story and setting from Bandai Namco’s broader library of beloved arcade games. While there is much more to reveal about this thrilling new adventure, astute fans will find early hints of connections to other iconic games in the reveal trailer.
