If you are wandering around in the world of Dead Island then you should know that the game has quite a large map to navigate. Of course there are maps online you could look at but how about a bite sized map that sits right on your iPhone. Also how about if that map showed the locations of all different kinds of collectibles in the game, ranging from audio diaries, ID cards and Banoi Herald journals.
The app is going to cost $2.99 which unfortunately seems a bit pricey, but the map is certainly a handy little tool that makes for uninterruptable gameplay. Of course, when the location of the collectibles is posted online it may take away from the value significantly. Either way though you can download the map app here.
Dead Nation may have been released nearly a year ago but it most recently landed on some peoples’ radars. It was one of the games available for free due to the PlayStation Network downtime and the subsequent “Welcome Back” program, and now fans of the game that many obtained for free may be getting some new content to go along with their game.
Housemarque and Sony have said that over 3.8 million people have killed over 11.7 billion zombies, and now the popular title is go down the “Road of Devastation” in the newly announced DLC. The game will include a number of new tools and pieces of equipment that will help players face down new enemies and unique environments. Players will wake up in a lab after being genetically modified to create an ultimate soldier. Outside of the lab players will find “a crossroads leading to three different paths, each with their own unique environments, challenges and enemies waiting for you.” Currently no date nor a price was announced, though expect one in the future.
PlayStation 3 owners can rejoice because not only does their exclusive Resistance 3 title hit stores today but Insomniac Games has already begun working on a piece of downloadable content for the game’s multiplayer section. The DLC is named the “Survival Pack” and will be available on October 4th. The package will add the Invasion Mode to Resistance 3 and include a number of player skins as well as a basic XMB theme for only $3.99.
The Invasion game mode will be a team based resource management type match which will force teams to control capture points on a map to earn points. If you don’t feel like spending extra money though, you can will also be getting two new multiplayer maps entirely free. These maps will come alongside a patch that is also being released on October 4th.
Square Enix has had a small puzzle going on involving Deus Ex: Human Revolution and it appears that they have decided to shed a little light on what the puzzle contains. Today Square Enix announced that “The Missing Link” DLC will be released in October and bring with it a number of new environments, characters and some extra narrative to go with the game’s already stellar story.
The Missing Link DLC will take place near the end of the game’s storyline and fill in a three day gap in story where Adam happened to drop off the radar where nobody knew where he was. The content will reveal new information about the conspiracies, though for those who have beaten the game, nothing has been said if they will need to start over to access the DLC or not. Expect more information soon as Square Enix promised updates soon.
Dead Island has quite a large amount of bugs, but I didn’t mention a number of these in my review simply because Techland has had a day-one patch sitting in it’s holster ready to fire off when the game was released. You can find the full list of the game’s fixes below, also if you happened to download the Steam version of Dead Island, you may have noticed something else wrong with your game. Citing the latest network intrusion as the main reason behind the move, Sony has hired Philip Reitinger, ex director of the US National Cyber Security Center to act as their new chief information security officer. As well as his previous position within the government, Reitinger has also represented Microsoft as well as the US department of Defense.
With the loss of 77 million users data, including personal information by hackers exploiting network flaws, Sony are doing everything they can to ensure their users feel safe and secure while using their various services. While many doubted that the PSN service would ever return to its former glory, CEO Howard Stringer sings a different tune, emphasising that since the ordeal “We have more than 3 million new customers since the network came back online, and sales are exceeding what we had before the cyber-attacks.”
It’s beige. It’s brown. It’s cartographic fantastic! (I had to, I apologise!)
Sony Japan has just revealed that a limited edition Dualshock 3 controller will be released alongside Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception when the game debuts there on 2 November. So far this is only scheduled for a Japan release, but with Uncharted being such an internationally popular franchise it would be a bit strange to leave out the rest of the world.
Personally I’m a bit surprised at the choice of the design – it looks a lot more like a Lord of the Rings style controller than anything to do with the Uncharted franchise! I can see where they are coming from with the map design, Uncharted does hinge on exploring, and yes, that involves maps. But given the lush environments and generally vibrant style of the game, I would have expected something a bit bolder. If this controller sees a worldwide release, will you be snapping it up?
On the back of releasing World Heroes (review) and Shock Troopers (review), SNK Playmore USA have revealed three more titles to head to the US Playstation Store as minis. They are Alpha Mission, T.N.K III and Vanguard II. Let’s have a quick look at the games:
Alpha Mission:
Pilot the fighter ship SYD and attack both air & ground based enemy targets, collect power-ups and defeat the bosses in this 1985 precursor to the early NEOGEO era sequel! The fate of Earth rests in your hands!
T.N.K III:
Play as Colonel Ralf, maneuvering your tank and firing its machine guns and cannon. Destroy the enemy army in this arcade classic originally released in 1985, featuring revolutionary controls for its time!
Vanguard II:
Destroy hostile enemies and their massive base in this innovative sequel to the arcade hit!
All of these games will be available on September 6 and cost $2.99.

It is certainly a good year to be a Dragon Quest fan. Of course we already told you news about Dragon Quest X’s big reveal recently, but there is yet another title coming to the Wii that is sure to press some nostalgic buttons for some. Dragon Quest Anniversary Collection is set to release just nine days from today in Japan (September 15th for those of you bad at math), and will bring together the Erdwick trilogy in one snazzy package. Not only will players receive Dragon Quest 1, 2, and 3, but also included on the disc will be the Game Boy Color ports of Dragon Quest 1&2, and Dragon Quest 3 (also known as Dragon Warrior during the original western release).
To add in those last elements of spice, fans can also expect to find a mini-medal replica made famous by the series along with a reprinted Shinken NES strategy guide for the original trio of titles on the disc. Quite a nice package indeed. You can watch the official trailer for the compilation below, and once we hear any word of localization, we will be sure to inform you all so stay tuned!
