Guild Wars 2 – Traits and Attributes

0

The latest Guild Wars 2 update comes from game designer Jon Peters. He provides some hefty knowledge about traits and attributes used in the game. Let’s dive into the juiciness of information.

Initially the developers where looking at a basic four attribute system which involved power, vitality, precision, and toughness. Seeing as this left players with only two offensive attributes – power and toughness, the design team sought out more offensive and supportive attributes to provide deeper gameplay. Here is what they came up with:

Offense

  • Prowess: Improves the damage multiplier on critical strikes.
  • Malice: Improves the damage done by conditions like burning, poison, confusion, and bleeding.
  • Expertise: Improves the duration of all conditions inflicted by the character.

Support

  • Concentration: Improves the duration of all boons applied by the character.
  • Compassion: Improves all outgoing heals that your character does, including self heals.

Additionally, individual profession attributes were created to provide yet another variable that could separate your character from the rest. For example, the ranger profession has the attribute empathy which enhances pet attributes. By finding equipment that has empathy or progressing through the appropriate “trait” line, your ranger’s pet attributes will increase.

Before discussing trait lines, the purpose of adding a trait system was to add more definition into building a character. As a player levels from 11-80, they will receive one trait point per level resulting with 70 points overall. Players will be able to invest points into five available trait lines for each profession. Check out the following trait line for the elementalist.

Elementalist

  • Fire Magic: Power and Expertise.
  • Air Magic: Precision and Prowess.
  • Earth Magic: Toughness and Malice.
  • Water Magic: Vitality and Compassion.
  • Arcane Power: Concentration and Intelligence.

Players can spend a maximum of 30 trait points per line. As points are spent the associated attributes will increase. Therefore, spending points in the Arcane Power line would in turn increase the bonuses of concentration and intelligence. But here’s the catch! Spending points requires training manuals to increase the amount of points spent in a trait line. An adept training manual obtained at level 11 will only allow 10 points to be spent in a given trait line (at level 40: 20 points and at level 60: 30 points).

To obtain the rest of the information check out Jon’s post at the Guild Wars 2 Website. My mouth is salivating at the sight of all this player customization. The game’s pre-order slogan should be “Guild Wars 2 – It’s Acceptable to Drool”.

Emmure x Capcom

Street Fighter is 110% in my f**king blood!” Says hardcore vocalist Frank Palmeri of Emmure, “I cannot get rid of it!” To help celebrate the 25th anniversary of Street Fighter, frontman of popular hardcore band Emmure has teamed up with Capcom and All In Merchandise to make the following video you can see below, where he reveals the impact the popular fighting franchise has had on his life. This guy could seriously be one of Street Fighters biggest fans. Why you ask? Well for starters he has the Shadaloo symbol on his freaking throat!

Amongst not only showing off the Shadaloo symbol on his throat, Palmeri also has another three Street Fighter tattoos on his body: his favourite character M.Bison tattooed on his leg, the Kakanji symbol that appears on Akuma’s back on his wrist, and the word Shadaloo tattooed across the bottom row of his knuckles.

You’d think that’d be enough love for Street Fighter, but Palmeri takes it yet another step further. The video goes on to reveal that the lyrics of two songs from Emmure’s latest album, Speaker of the Dead (2011) are actually written about Street Fighter! ‘Demons with Ryu‘ is based on the Ryu’s belief of not earning medals of recognition but rather constantly improving himself, while ‘Last Words to Rose‘ is about the relationship between the characters Rose and M.Bison. So basically this guy screams about Street Fighter for a living. Jealous much?

However this isn’t that surprising, as hardcore Emmure fans would’ve already known that Palmeri is a straight up geek, as many Emmure song titles contain many references to pop culture such as ‘Children of Cybertron‘ and crowd favourite ‘R2deepthroat‘.

Make sure you check out the video for yourself below. Emmure’s new album, Slave To The Game, will be available April 10th through Victory Records.

PlayStation Vita hits 1.2 million sales worldwide, 600,000 in Western nations

0

It seems that Sony has decided to put naysayers in their place today as Edge magazine is reporting that Sony has announced the company has sold 600,000 PlayStation Vita’s in under a week in Western nations. This is rather large news as not only does it show a break in Sony’s usual figures which only cover “shipped” units, but also shows that the PlayStation Vita is ready to take gamers by storm.

With February 19th’s sales figures of the PlayStation Vita, Japan’s total sales number at 578,812 which means that this estimated number of 600,000 must be true as Sony is claiming that they have now seen worldwide sales of 1.2 million Vitas. Now this doesn’t include North America only, but all other countries including Canada, Europe and Australia. Hopefully the Vita keeps this momentum going as high platform sales are the best way to attract publishers and developers.

Quantum Conundrum coming “Summer 2012”

While Square Enix of North America may not have anything to say about Quantum Conundrum’s release date, Square Enix Europe has revealed that they are currently aiming to release the title sometime in the summer of this year on the PC, Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.

For those who don’t know, Quantum Conundrum is being created by Portal’s co-creator Kim Swift who is working with Airtight games to develop the title. In the game you will play as a child who is visiting his uncle, a genius inventor named Professor Quadwrangle. However after a strange explosion he disappears and now you must track him down through the use of an Inter-Dimensional Shift device that allows you to change the world between “Normal” and “fluffy” dimensions as well as three other yet revealed dimensions.

Double Fine trademarks ‘The Cave’

After Double Fine Productions began a Kickstarter fund that has so far raised well over $2 million dollars through the help of their fans, the company revealed that they will be releasing the title on the PC, Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS so far, but currently have been tight lipped about any other information on the title.

However Siliconera has discovered that Double Fine Productions filed a trademark for The Cave in North America on February 22nd and applied that trademark to anything relating to video game and computer game software. Currently Double Fine themselves have not confirmed whether or not The Cave is going to be the name of their new adventure game, however those who pledge at least $15 to the company through KickStarter can get the game for free as long as they do so before March 13th.
