Will Medaka Box Get a Second Season?

The rumour mill is rolling again today, this time for the Medaka Box anime series, which is set to wrap up in the next few weeks. Crunchyroll posted an interesting article earlier today in which they hint at a second season for Medaka Box coming in Fall 2012, with the series taking a break through Summer 2012.

Crunchyroll of course streams the series and as such their words hold more weight in this rumour. Though at the end of the day this still remains a rumour, which even Crunchyroll themselves acknowledge in their article.

Personally I believe this is a series that needs a second season. The manga upon which it is based is miles ahead of where the anime is up to and there is a lot of plot that will be left hanging with the end of this first season. So I for one hope that a second season does come to fruition because there is really a lot more that this series has to offer than what it’s first season has shown us. Death is No Longer an Issue for Humanity

Do you remember those days? Back when human life was a fleeting instant in the vast time and space of the cosmos? Well, with the early arrival of the end of the world, Death, the second rider of the apocalypse, has taken a break from guiding humanity into the afterlife. Instead he’s going to make sure to we live to see another day, all the while trying to redeem his brother War, who has been falsely accused of starting the whole mess.

It’s that hefty task that’s depicted in the Darksiders II live-action trailer, starring James Cosmo of Game of Thrones fame (Jeor Mormont, Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, and a constant reminder of that old adage, “Winter is coming”). In it, he plays a priest giving his last sermon before the end.

Or is it the end?

Darksiders II is an action/adventure game in the vein of Zelda and God of War, and will feature a massive world full of hub-towns, side quests, and loot, as well as providing plenty of RPG-esque customization for the game’s protagonist, Death. The story of Death’s redemptive quest will occur parallel to the event in the first Darksiders.

To check out an extended version of the trailer, you’re going to have to like the Darksiders Facebook page. Darksiders II releases for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC in August 2012, with a Wii U version to come later.

EA Games has announced the pre orders for Australian and New Zealand retailers.

  • EB Games/JB Hi Fi/Mighty Ape: Players will receive 1 Gold Hockey Ultimate Team pack per week for 16 weeks (September – December 2012).
  • JB Hi Fi & Mighty Ape: Players will receive in-game Reebok 20K package. The package includes in-game gloves, stick, skates and a boost to enhance a Be a Pro and EASHL player.
  • EB Games: Players willreceive in-game BAUER gloves, stick, skates and Boost to enhance Be a Pro and EASHL player. They will also receive an in-game Goalie boost to enhance Be a Pro and EASHL goalie.

Tomba! Tombi! Whatever you call it, it’s Coming to PSN!

Tomba! or Tombi! as it was known in PAL regions, is one of the games that my childhood revolved around. A side scrolling 2D platformer with a few 3D elements, the game was one of the many playable demos to be found on the Demo One disc that shipped with PlayStation consoles.

I played that demo a million times. But the actual game upon release sold poorly, and I never managed to get my hands on a full copy of the game until a decade later, when I scooped it off Ebay – happily paying more than the standard price for a brand new retail game at the time. And why was that? Because this game is an absolute gem. Starring a pink haired, six packed boy called Tombi, this colourful, slightly barmy adventure saw players tracking down the Seven Evil Pigs in order to recover a golden bracelet, and generally save the world.

It has personality, charm, and features a lead protagonist that defeats enemies by clamping onto the back of them with his teeth. You can collect different colours of tight fitting pants, rescue puppies, collect butterflies and then capture pigs in magic sacks. The soundtrack is catchy and lively, and gameplay often provides a tricky challenge, with plenty of sidequests to bolster up the main story. It is one of my favourite games ever, and here’s hoping the sequel manages to follow the original, because I still haven’t managed to get my hands on that one!

The game has just seen a release on the PlayStation Network thanks to Monkey Paw Games, whom I would be handing my money to right now if it was available in Australia….patience…patience child…

DOOM 3 BFG Edition release date revealed

Horror fans will be glad to hear that the newly revamped DOOM 3 BFG Edition now has a solid release date. The re-release of the “re-mastered” DOOM 3 includes the “Resurrection of Evil” DLC as well as some new content currently being called “The Lost Mission” and it will be available on October 16 in North America and October 19 in Europe.

For those who are curious about how much this little package will cost, it will run you $39.99 on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 while the PC version will run you only $29.99. Besides including the upgraded version of DOOM 3 the title will also include both DOOM 1 and DOOM 2, allowing you to get a little bit more bang for your buck.

Achievements may bring more rewards this Fall

Have you ever wished that your Gamerscore from all of those Achievements you’ve earned actually translated into something rather than a way to laud your superior gaming prowess over your friends? Well it seems that gamers will soon be rewarded with more than just an increased score by earning Achievements this Fall.

Xbox Live Rewards themselves placed a tweet earlier today saying: “We’ve hit 50,000 followers, which means it’s time for an announcement! Coming Fall: a new way to earn Rewards based on your Achievements!” so what could these rewards be? Most likely Microsoft Points which would be just fine as it gives active gamers a chance to pick up even more games.

Seth Killian to leave Capcom on June 22nd

Some unfortunate news has come out of Capcom Unity today as Capcom USA’s strategic marketing director of online and community Seth Killian revealed today that he is going to be leaving Capcom on Friday June 22nd for currently unknown reasons. This is a rather sudden departure for Seth who has become one of the main faces of Capcom over the past few years.

In his farewell blog he stated that “Capcom has been a dream for me,” whereas he went on to thank many members of Capcom including Yoshinori Ono. Killian did not explain where he will be going to next, instead he simply wrote that he has “chosen a new path which will let me embrace a new dream.” Whether this means we will still see him in the video game world is still uncertain.
