Some brand new Zone of the Enders HD screenshots have arrived

Everyone may be wanting to hear more about what the next game in the Zone of the Enders franchise will be about but for now Konami has plenty of screenshots of the Zone of the Enders HD Collection which will be released later this year during the Fall season. Now amongst these HD screenshots, which can be seen below, there are a number of new images as well as a few older ones.

The HD improvements are quite obvious in these images, with crisp looking visuals and of course newly animated opening scenes. Don’t take my word for it though, see for yourself below. Any guesses as to what sort of achievements/trophies we may see in the final game?

The Last of Us won’t be released until 2013

There has been some unfortunate news for fans of Naughty Dog, as the Last of Us has been delayed till 2013. This announcement came from Late night with Jimmy Fallon as the developers and Jimmy played part of the game, the footage of which can be seen here. With the Last of Us slated for 2013. Sony’s holiday line up will take a hit, but they still have plenty of titles.

There is a silver lining to the Last of Us being delayed, and that is that Naughty Dog can polish the game, and fix any bugs the game possibly has. So the wait can definitely be worth it, but what are your thoughts on the Last of Us being delayed?

Second Persona 4 Arena tutorial video explains defense, skills and status effects

Fans of the Persona series are getting a double dose of Persona 4 this year and one of those doses is the Persona 4 Arena fighting game. Now while some of us, such as myself, were able to try out Persona 4 Arena and get a rough feel for how the game will control, not everyone will be so lucky to hone their skills before the game’s release on August 7th.

Atlus has fans covered however because they have now released the second tutorial video in a series which is designed to help teach newcomers how to perform various actions in battle. This latest video covers basic blocking, avoiding attacks, status ailments and the use of skills. Take a look at the video below and start taking notes if you want to beat your friends when the title is released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

More gameplay footage of .hack//Versus revealed in latest trailer

As some of you may know, an interesting .hack// game/movie combination is set to be released in Japan on June 28th. What makes this game so interesting is the fact that rather than being the standard .hack// game many of us know and love, it will actually be a fighting game containing plenty of the series’ beloved characters.

Today CyberConnect2 released a new trailer for the game including some footage of the bundled movie, .hack//Sekai no Mukou ni, which can be seen below. It is worth noting that neither the game nor the bundled movie have been announced for localization in the West, though perhaps a collaboration between FUNimation and Namco Bandai could make it happen? We shall see.

Microsoft not attending Tokyo Game Show or Gamescom in 2012

While Microsoft may have had their own pre-E3 conference and even paid to have Usher attend and do a performance, it seems that the company is choosing to skip out of the other two major videogame events this year. While it is not surprising, given the Xbox 360’s complete inability to obtain a foothold in Japan, that Microsoft is not attending Tokyo Game Show this year, it is interesting to see that they will also be avoiding Germany’s Gamescom in August.

Rather than attend these large events, it seems that the company “will be focusing on smaller, more localized promotions and experiences for press, partners, retailers and customers around the world”, as stated by Major Nelson earlier today.

Dungeon Defenders will not be coming to the PlayStation Vita

While nearly any game for the PlayStation Vita is like a succulent meal to a console starving for quality game releases, it seems that the extremely popular Dungeon Defenders won’t be providing a life-saving meal. The developers of the game, Trendy Entertainment, stated on their own forums, as discovered by Joystiq, that the game will not be making its way to the PlayStation Vita despite a tech demo being created for the platform.

You see, with “a small team we often need to pick and choose our projects carefully. This is one of those cases where there were just too many opportunities and things we could be working on.” Now at the moment Trendy could not elaborate as to what their other opportunities are, but we will likely see over the next few months.

Tyrannosaur Review

Tyrannosaur
Studio: Channel Four Television Corporation
Publisher: Madman
Release Date: 16/05/2012
Price: $29.95 Available Here

Overview:

Back in 2007, a very special English short film by the name of Dog Altogether was released, written and directed entirely by Paddy Considine. It would receive critical acclaim and recognition when it picked up the esteemed BAFTA award for best short film, and would go on win several more awards at other film festivals in the same year.

With Dog Altogether being such a success, the short film would be expanded into a full-fledged movie, with a new name of Tyrannosaur. The movie essentially starts off  almost exactly the same way the short film did, but then proceeds to show viewers what happened after the events of Dog Altogether.

Tyrannosaur is one those movies that literally just comes out of nowhere and sweeps you away. Even with a modest budget and production values, this is a truly remarkable and unforgettable film that’s amazingly acted and produced.

Story:

Tyrannosaur takes place in a rather poor and rundown town in North England, and revolves around the difficult trial filled life of Joseph (Peter Mullan), an unemployed widower who leads a very miserable and lonely life filled with drinking. Joseph has uncontrollable rage, and often finds himself in situations where he makes very vocal and physical displays of violence and anger, getting himself into unnecessary trouble and hurting others. At the same time, Joseph experiences a lot of guilt and remorse, and finds himself regretting his act of rage and violence just moments after committing it. He is a man who is in constant battle with his demons and feels overpowered by them, and his living conditions don’t make things any easier.

After one of his anger episodes at the local bar, which he immediately regrets, he has a chance encounter with a middle aged woman by the name of Hannah (Olivia Colman). The encounter seems destined as both Hannah and Joseph play a major role in each other’s lives, and while it creates a glimmer of hope and warmth for both, they must also face the hardships and consequences of their relationship.

What Tyrannosaur really does well is show just how people are never what we assume them to be, as there is just so much more beyond the surface. Joseph for example, while appears to be aggressive and dangerous, is actually a kind and caring person who genuinely looks out for the people he cares about. Hannah appears to be a mild natured and calm woman, but even she has her demons and issues.

Tyrannosaur is a very gripping, intense, dark, and tragic movie, one that feels very down to earth and realistic, that too in a harsh way. There are moments in the movie that will just make your heart sink, and you will experience a deep sense of empathy and pity for the characters. At the same time, even when things look so awful and depressing, there are still moments of joy and hope for the characters, but in a very bittersweet fashion. Tyrannosaur is really an emotional rollercoaster, one that will pull a lot of emotional strings and leave a lasting impact on you.

What’s great about the movie is how amazingly well acted it is, the performances are superb as the character portrayal just feels so real and believable. The plot is filled with tragedy, moments of kindness, betrayal, and just pure irony. Tyrannosaur offers a truly powerful and moving experience.

Visuals and Audio:

Tyrannosaur has a very dark and gritty demeanor to it, which really complements the general mood of the film very nicely. It presents a very bleak and depressing North England town where people live on low wages and only have their alcohol to keep them happy. The cinematography is brilliant, as it captures moments and presents them in a very gripping and emotional manner. The soundtrack of the movie, much like the rest of the movie, is subtle and brooding, and ties in nicely with the nature of the scenes and the emotions being portrayed. Although it has the one uplifting moment where there is a performance by a local musician, and the song’s lyrics really fit in well with the message that the movie is trying to portray.

Extras:

Apart from the trailers, this Tyrannosaur DVD release comes with the original short film that it is based upon, Dog Altogether, in its entirety. It’s a really well produced, subtle, and organic film that features some great use of camera angles. I would actually recommend watching Dog Altogether first before jumping on to the actual movie, as the short film really helps to set the mood and provides nice alternate view. The content of Dog Altogether is actually reproduced entirely in the opening minutes of Tyrannosaur, with some minor changes to the way scenes are acted out. It’s still good to start off with the film that inspired the actual movie to begin with, and it’s really cool to have it as an extra.

Dog Altogether essentially showcases Joseph’s issues with his near inhuman rage, and how he takes it out on people who didn’t really deserve it. The most tragic consequence is when he injures his dog out of drunken rage and regrets it immediately afterwards, with the rest of the short film focusing on how he attempts to seek redemption and pay for his actions.

Overall:

Tyrannosaur is a very dark and emotional ride which can be a little hard to stomach at times, and is not for the weak of heart. That said, it succeeds simply because it can make you feel so much sorrow and empathy for the characters, and when it’s all said and done it will leave you with a very heavy heart. However, it’s not a deliberate downer movie as what it really demonstrates is that no matter how bad things are, you just need to take life as it comes. Try your best to feel good about where you are at this point in time, and look forward to feeling better tomorrow.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier delayed on PCs until June 26

PC gamers often get the short end of the stick, while sometimes they receive superior products or games that will never see the light of day on consoles, they also are given shoddy console ports or delayed releases of bigger titles. Such is the case with the PC version of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier which has now been delayed until June 26th in North America.

Interestingly enough, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier has nearly been out a month already on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but alas that is the burden PC owners must bear. It is also worth noting that anyone in Europe will have to wait even longer, as the title doesn’t grace PCs in that region until June 29th.

Street Fighter X Tekken headed to iOS 5 devices

So you have an iPad or iPhone? You like fighting games? Well then you may want to check out Street Fighter X Tekken. That’s right Capcom is bringing the tag team crossover to iOS 5 devices. Street Fighter X Tekken marks the 3rd console game to be ported to the iOS platform the other titles being Resident Evil 4 and Street Fighter 4. Street Fighter X Tekken seems to be using the same control scheme as Street Fighter 4 on iOS which was called one of the best control schemes on any iOS game.

It is unknown if the iOS version will feature the full roaster or if it will have a very reduced roster like Street Fighter 4.  Street Fighter X Tekken will be playable on iPhone 4, 4S and iPad 2, and available this summer.  What do you think about Street Fighter X Tekken coming to iOS 5 devices?

Thief 4 Footage Leaks

Thief 4 has been in development for as many years as its own number, and yet at this year’s E3, there was no sign of it. Eidos Montreal of Deus Ex: Human Revolution are working on the title, and despite development time breezing past Deus Ex’s own gestation period, little word has emerged from the company as to progress.

However, 20 seconds of a promo reel has managed to find its way on to the internet courtesy of one Eric Wong, whose name and title helpfully pops up over the beginning of the video – lets hope he’s finished the job already.

Given that Thief 4’s website sports only the above logo and a link to a solitary forum, this is the only concrete news for the title that has surfaced in some time, which according to Kotaku, could be down to internal problems at Eidos that have seen numerous personnel leave the development team, including two level designers and a few senior staff.

Here’s hoping that’s just a series of hiccups safely ignored, and that Thief 4 finally comes into the light at some point in the near future.
