No Charger for 3DS XL in Japan and Europe

In a really odd and bizarre move, Nintendo has confirmed that the long speculated and now confirmed release of the XL version of the 3DS will not include a charger for the device in Japan and Europe.

The move is incredibly strange considering that this device actually needs to be charged in order to be functional. Nintendo’s rationale for this is that they believe users already own a charger for the 3DS and do not require another one. This is unfortunate for users wishing to trade in their old 3DS in exchange for the XL version as the majority of stores won’t accept a console without a charger or will accept it for significantly less remuneration.

This is simply a very stupid decision from Nintendo that hampers what should have been rather exciting news for fans of the 3DS. Unfortunately the only country getting the charger is the U.S. leaving the rest of the world in the dark on this. I am personally disappointed in you Nintendo, I thought you cared more for your consumers.

So what do you think of this situation? Have Nintendo disappointed you? Let us know in the comments section below.

Nintendo Announces 8-Bit Summer

During the past few months, the eShop has been more about original releases than Virtual Console titles, which has left the retro loving crowd hungry for more. That’s all about to change though, as during July, Nintendo’s 8-Bit Summer will kick off with two VC titles hitting the service each week. Sound exciting? Well, the list of releases should get you more pumped as there are some nice gems in the lot.

July 5th
The Legend of Zelda – NES

July 12th
Kirby’s Pinball Land – Game Boy
The Sword of Hope II – Game Boy

July 19th
Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters – Game Boy
Tumblepop – Game Boy

July 26th
Wario Land – Super Mario Land 3 – Game Boy

No Date Listed
Sonic Blast – Game Gear
Sonic Labyrinth – Game Gear

So, what do you think? Sword of Hope, Kirby’s Pinball Land and Wario are huge in my book, and this promotion is a fantastic way to promote the eShop. For those interested, Super Mario Land is also going to get a discount of a buck during the summer, with the new price set at $2.99. Not bad at all. Stay tuned, as we will be sure to keep you covered with even more Nintendo eShop news in the coming weeks. Check out the trailer for the 8-bit Summer down below.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 to feature paid DLC

Interestingly enough, the new Super Mario game, New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be a cash grab in more ways than one because Nintendo is planning on releasing some paid DLC after the game is released. The DLC will be additional coin rush stages and the company is planning on taking user input into account when they design the game.

This is a new turn for Super Mario and Nintendo as a whole as they have never offered DLC for any game in the past. It will be interesting to see how much these DLC stages will cost, but we will have to wait awhile to see for ourselves.

Kirby’s Dream Collection is a Pure Tribute

Last year, Mario got his own collection in the form of an on disc port of Super Mario All Stars. Well, that was nice, but some argued that it wasn’t a great enough celebration for Nintendo’s #1 mascot. It seems that Nintendo have heard those cries though, as Kirby’s Dream Collection was shown off during Nintendo Direct tonight, and it looks spectacular.

Not only does this game feature a soundtrack and never before seen mini-games, it will also include an option to run through Kirby’s history with tons of fan service. Also included on this disc is of course the games, which will be all three Kirby’s Dream Lands, Adventure, Superstar, and Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, which makes for one hefty collection. As a hardcore Kirby nut, I am still buzzing after seeing the trailer, and even if you are still unfamiliar with the age-old franchise, you should give the clip a look just to see how a anniversary collection is supposed to be done down below.

Yes Nintendo, you may take my money. Kirby’s Dream Collection releases on the Wii later this year at a currently unknown date and price.

Wild Pokemon Black and White 2 English Trailer Appeared

The grass rustled and suddenly a wild English language trailer for the upcoming DS games, Pokemon Black 2 and White 2, appeared on Nintendo’s official youtube channel.

This new trailer for Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 shows off the games in all their glory, except in English instead of Japanese. It also reveals the English name of the poison-type gym leader as Roxie, for those of you playing at home.

Fire Emblem: Awakening comes to North America in 2013

A number of you may have guessed that Fire Emblem: Awakening would be released either late 2012 or sometime in 2013 back when it was quietly announced a few weeks ago at E3. Well if you guessed sometime in 2013 then you just won about a half a year or more of waiting because Nintendo revealed in their Nintendo Direct presentation that the game would indeed be coming out in 2013.

At the moment however, the name of the game was simply called Fire Emblem. Nintendo also confirmed that Fire Emblem: Awakening will contain the same type of paid DLC that is available in Japan.

Bravely Default Trailer from Nintendo Direct

During their Japanese Nintendo Direct conference, Nintendo showed off a new trailer for the hotly anticipated classic styled RPG from Square-Enix, Bravely Default: Flying Fairy.

The new trailer for Bravely Default: Flying Fairy shows off a mixture of gameplay and cutscene footage and can be seen below. The game itself is set for release on the Nintendo 3DS later this year and harkens back the spirit of RPG’s of old with a classic style approach to a genre that has evolved into something vastly different from what it began as (see Final Fantasy 13 compared with Final Fantasy 1 for example). So it is good to see a game with some love for the classic style of role playing games.

Well Nintendo of America has made their own announcement now stating that the Nintendo 3DS XL will be released in North America on August 19th for $199.99.

For those of you who may have missed it, the 3DS XL will have a 90 percent larger viewing screen now that the upper screen has seen an upgrade to 4.88 inches and the bottom screen also got an upgrade to 4.18 inches.
