In one of the largest mishandlings we’ve seen in many years, Sony has just finally announced that they will begin bringing PSOne Classic support to the PlayStation Vita on August 28th with Firmware Update 1.8. However not all games will be immediately supported by the Vita right away.
Sort of like their mishandled PSP library, PSOne Classics will slowly be integrated into the Vita beginning with Final Fantasy VII and Tomb Raider and a couple others. I mean, I do love the Vita and wish there was more to do on it, but it seems that Sony is too busy trying to drive it into the ground with mishandled software to do anything about it.
Today if you go to your local video game retailer you may want to be quiet, because there are probably going to be plenty Sleeping Dogs on the shelves. Though these Sleeping Dogs will probably be flying off the shelves because this video game looks like it is going to take the market by storm.
Relasing on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Pc today, Sleeping Dogs offers an unprecedented open world experience in Hong Kong as they follow the story of undercover cop Wei Shen. As Wei Shen players must focus on taking down one of the most fearsome criminal games, the Triad, from the inside. Featuring brutal combat, intense gun fights and plenty of side-missions to keep the players busy, Sleeping Dogs looks like it is everything a fan of open world action games could want.
During their Gamescom press conference today Sony announced one of their next big games for the PlayStation Vita… another FPS! This time around Vita owners are being treated to a new Killzone title called Killzone Mercenary. In Killzone Mercenary, players will actually be playing as a mercenary soldier who even works alongside the Helghast soldiers at times.
To go along with this reveal the company also released the below trailer featuring mostly live-action footage but also a bit of gameplay at the very end of the video. Currently it is unknown when Vita owners can expect this title to be released, though we can likely expect more information over the next few weeks.
Today Sony revealed that they are publishing a brand new game that is being developed by Supermassive Games called Until Dawn. The title was inspired by cult teen horror movies and promises to drawn players in with the “shocking, twisted story,” full of “killer dialogue.” Until Dawn will make use of the PlayStation Move and from the trailer shown at Gamescom, which can be seen below, this may be the best looking PlayStation Move game ever.
The story of Until Dawn follows seven teenagers venturing out to the site of their friends’ disappearance a year later in an effort to “bury their ghosts and get some closure.” Obviously things don’t go so smoothly, the power has gone out, the phones have stopped working and you must try to survive horrific events and what appears to be a viscous killer.
Sony’s handling of the PlayStation Vita can be pretty much summed up with the word atrocious, but it seems that they are trying to fix at least some of their issues with the handheld because today during Sony’s Gamescom press conference it was revealed that the PlayStation Plus service would be moving onto the PlayStation Vita.
Currently it is unknown when this service will be making its way to the Vita nor was it announced if the Plus membership will be included with the basic subscription of if a new fee will need to be paid. Besides the Vita announcement the company also announcd their plans to bring the cloud storage limit of Plus from 150 MB to 1GB. Sounds very limited still, but it is still nearly 80% more space than before…

It seems that EA is continuing their trend of Dead Space limited editions because today the company revealed that they will indeed be making a Dead Space 3 Limited Edition. Those interested in picking up this version will be given access to the first two bundles of DLC for Visceral’s co-op horror game.
The first bundle is called “First Contact” while the second one is titled “Witness the Truth.” Both of these pieces of DLC include a special suit and weapon, with more details found below. Also below you can find a new gameplay trailer which was shown off today at Gamescom.
“First Contact” Bundle
· First Contact Suit: This unique EVA (Extra-Vehicular Activity) suit was built by the SCAF (Sovereign Colonies Armed Forces) for encounters with “foreign entities.” It sports a flamboyant golden finish to provide protection from long-term space exposure and thick armor for… unspecified reasons. The suit was given the nickname “First Contact” by the scientists who made it.·
Negotiator Weapon: While technically classified by the SCAF as a “scientific instrument,” the gold-plated “Negotiator” is loaded with some surprisingly aggressive hardware. The overclocked, top-mounted Tesla Beam is capable of bursting a man-sized organism into several pieces with a single shot. The bottom-mounted Linegun appears to have been built with the sole purpose of cleanly dismembering organic tissue from a distance.
”Witness the Truth” Bundle
· Witness Suit: These insulated suits were worn by a SCAF deep dig team assigned to exhume the darkest secrets of Tau Volantis. Whatever they found locked deep in the ice changed them forever. When they emerged weeks later, they were covered head to toe in strange graffiti and claimed to be “Witnesses to the Truth.”·
Evangelizer Weapon: A modification of the standard AL-2 used by the Sovereign Colonies Legionaries, this version sports a souped-up AL-2g assault rifle on the top with an Emerson 2100 “Big Boy” tactical shotgun on the bottom. The surviving “Witnesses” of the SCAF deep dig team dubbed it the Evangelizer and decorated them top to bottom with strange symbols.
