LOUIS – April 30 –Pixel Press is proud to announce the first in a series of draw-your-own-game apps: Pixel Press Floors—which allows users to create side-scrolling platformers complete with coins, fire pits, spikes . . . and of course, platforms! Budding game designers from all over the world can download Floors for free from the App Store today.

Floors allows anyone to draw and share their games with other users—with no coding required. The Pixel Press sketch guide, a pencil, and the Floors app are all that is needed to unlock the creative potential of game enthusiasts of all ages. Unique games are created and played through a simple four-step process: draw, capture & test, design, play & share. Not only can the app turn the drawings from paper into playable, shareable video games—but creators can also start building games right away using the Draw-In-App feature.

Floors was created by Pixel Press, a startup based in St. Louis, Missouri that was successfully funded thanks to more than 2,250 Kickstarter backers–raising $109,000 last June in order to build the Pixel Press ecosystem.

“This is the first step in the Pixel Press journey,” says Robin Rath, co-founder of Pixel Press. “With Floors, we are delivering on the Kickstarter promise of drawing your own platformer. Whether you grew up on classic platformer games and dreamt of one day creating your own, or are interested in a completely new mobile gaming experience, you can now download Floors and get to work on your first hand-drawn video game.” 

How Pixel Press Works

Users begin by downloading the free sketch guide from the company’s website. The guide details the different shapes (“glyphs”) that can be translated into game elements. For example, a coin is drawn as a plus sign, simple boxes are terrain, and an equal sign can mark where the player will start in the level. Once the game is drawn, the user holds the iPad parallel to the sheet of paper so that Floors can capture the drawing; as soon as it recognizes the grid paper, it automatically takes the picture and turns it into a playable video game level. From there, the user can customize the design/gameplay of the game and playtest it before submitting it to the Pixel Press community (the Arcade).

It is also possible to download the app and just enjoy playing levels uploaded by other users. The Pixel Press Arcade allows everyone to “like” levels, and it also displays the number of times a level has been played.

“The Arcade is one of the most exciting elements of Floors,” says Josh Stevens, Pixel Press Community Manager. “As a player, I can scroll through and may see a level created by users I know—or I may see a level that looks challenging from a player who is in a completely different country. As a creator, I can share my level and see how many times others have played it, which is an incredibly exciting experience.”

The Pixel Press team has been working alongside the GCAA Makerspace (Grand Center Arts Academy) for the past few months on a weekly basis. The idea was to incorporate Floors into the curriculum, which was built around Stanford’s Design Thinking Process:

“Pixel Press is a very promising and radical educational development – and I’m incredibly excited to see its first release, Floors,” says Andrew Goodin, Makerspace Teacher at Grand Center Arts Academy. “At Makerspace, we believe that if students are able to put themselves in the shoes of the players, then they will be able to design better games. Pixel Press is instrumental in this iterative, constantly evolving model of education. Once our students create their levels in Floors, for example, they write down the feedback they receive from each other and also from the Pixel Press team. Being able to make different design choices on the go, and without any programming, is priceless.”

Assemble for Disney Infinity Marvel Superheroes

Early this morning (at 3am to be exact) Disney set up a live webcast that showed us the future of the already awesome Disney Infinity franchise. Disney Infinity 2.0 has been renamed… wait for it… Disney Infinity 2.0 Marvel Superheroes! Not only do we know a name, but we now know new characters, we know release windows and we know what consoles we will be playing on! Since there is so much to take in, we have compiled all of the information into one easy to read article. So seriously, lets get to it!


  • Disney Infinity Marvel Superheroes will center around (you guessed it) the Marvel Entertainment line of characters.
  • The following characters have been confirmed:
    • Captain America
    • Iron Man
    • Thor
    • The Incredible Hulk
    • Black Widow
    • Hawkeye
  • It was confirmed that in addition to the 6 announced characters, that 12 more will be joining the ranks. These characters weren’t confirmed but we know that they will include both Disney and Marvel properties. The videos that played during the presentation showed off the following characters, but whether they are playable characters or Power Disc summons remains to be seen.

    • Nick Fury
    • Loki
    • M.O.D.O.K.
    • Roccet Raccoon

  • Brian Micheal Bendis (the man behind Ultimate Spider-Man, All-New X-Men and many more) was brought onto the project in a producer/creative consultant roll to ensure that the characters all retained their traditional personalities, skillsets etc.
  • Disney Infinity content will be forwards compatible with Disney Infinity Marvel Superheroes. This includes all previous figures, Power Discs, the Infinity Base and Toy Box content!
  • The new Disney Infinity Marvel Superheroes Starter Pack will come included with:
    • Iron Man
    • Thor
    • Black Widow
    • Avengers Playset Piece
    • 2x Toy Box Game Discs
    • Will allow for multiplayer right out of the box, with no need for additional figures
  • It will be available on all current platforms (Xbox 360, PS3, PC, iPad, Wii U) and will also finally be available on PS4 and Xbox One
  • The Starter Pack will be priced at $99.95, while the Play Sets will be $39.95. Individual figures will be $17.95 and Power Disc Packs will be $5.95 (so the RRP hasn’t changed).
  • The new Play Sets will be massive in comparison to the originals in Disney Infinity. Marvel Manhatten is 4x the size of the Metroville Playset from the original and will include iconic landmarks like The Avengers Tower.
  • New movement and combat mechanics have been implemented to create a more robust experience. Characters can now hover and fly, and everyone will have their own unique combat style.

  • Characters will be broken down into different character classes. For example Captain America and Thor are brawlers, while Hawkeye is a ranged fighter. Each of the different classes will have their own unique strengths and weaknesses (much like many Action RPGs that use the multi-class system)
  • Characters will now also have a skill tree that will allow players to use skill points attained through leveling up in order to customise their Avenger’s skills, abilities and play style. In addition, the level cap has increased to 20 to allow further customisation.
  • The Toy Box Mode has undergone some serious tweaks and development upgrades to allow players to create more content, and to create content easier.
    • New Brush Tool allows players to paint over their toybox and have cities, dungeons, racetracks etc seamlessly build themselves for you.
    • You can also use “Builders,” who are little guys who can be placed in the Toy Box and will run around building things for you. These can later be customised to your liking.
    • Interiors and Houses – Players now have the option of entering buildings and designing the interiors. Everything from Dungeons to your own home can now be built inside the Toy Box.
    • Toy Box Games are each 3-4 hours long and are based on popular gaming genres. Examples that were shown in the presentation were a Tower Defense game set on Asgard, and an intergalactic Dungeon Crawler.

  • New Logic Toys have been created that allow players to build entire games from scratch. You can add fades in/out, as well as score-boards, stat screens etc to make your gaming experience complete for other players. There are now also “Templates,” which come with all of the tools and toys you will need to make your game.
  • Lastly, there will be 80 new power discs in 2 waves and will include familiar favourite abilities like vehicles, weapons, new terrain etc. In addition, two new Power Discs will be added that can change your character’s costumes, as well as Team-Ups that summon familiar faces to fight alongside you.

Seattle, WA – April 30th, 2014 – Independent studio Camouflaj announced today that the second of five installments in the critically acclaimed game République is available now on the App Store. Envisioned and executed by industry veterans behind such AAA games as F.E.A.R., Halo 4, and Metal Gear Solid 4, and designed specifically for iOS, République brings console-quality gameplay and graphics to the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Episode 2: Metamorphosis explores the origins of intellectual fascism through the player’s continuing efforts to help a young woman named Hope escape an Orwellian prison. Amid growing intrigue and ever-more-dire consequences, she seeks out the librarian, Señor Luis Octavo (voiced by Marcelo Tubert), a sympathetic mentor whose concern for Hope makes him a target of The Overseer’s wrath. This second installment is both action-oriented and contemplative as the veil over Hope’s eyes is lifted. With the player’s help, she gains a better understanding of her captors and the desperate measures necessary if she is to free herself.

“In classic Camouflaj fashion, we opted to go beyond simply telling the next chapter of our story,” said Jeremy Romanowski, artist at Camouflaj. “Episode 2 introduces a dozen new features including a new 3D map, a new guard type and new OMNI abilities, not to mention dozens of enhancements to the first episode. This is a big release.”

Following the two-year development of Episode 1: Exordium, the Bellevue-based development team wasted no time in creating Episode 2, honing its vision to deliver on three key areas: exploration, puzzles, and a deeper connection to Hope. At the heart of the experience is the airy, moonlit library – a labyrinthine environment that spans over 13,000 square feet. Camouflaj worked closely with Unity experts and pushed the hardware to its limits.

“Even though Episode 2’s environments are huge, our goal was to craft a more intimate experience,” said veteran République developer Greg Raab. “After winning the IMGA award for ‘Excellence in Narrative’ at GDC, the team has even greater confidence in our ability to convey epic experiences via our One Touch gameplay.”

Episode 2: Metamorphosis will be unlocked as a $4.99 in-app purchase on May 1 and is available now for owners of the Season Pass ($14.99), a discounted episode bundle pack with exclusive content including an hour-long documentary and one hundred developer commentary clips. Camouflaj plans to release the remaining episodes in three to four-month intervals.

London, UK – April 30, 2014– Today Ubisoft® announced Might & Magic Duel of Champions Road to Paris 2014 is kicking off tomorrow, May 1. Switching the format from last year’s Road to Paris, this year the qualifiers will take place entirely online through eight months of competition. From there, the top eight players will be flown to Paris for the Grand Finale, happening in the iconic Eiffel Tower.

Leveling the playing field

The new qualifying system has been tailored to allow players from around the world to enter Road to Paris exclusively through online competitions. Depending on their monthly performance and activity, players will have an equal opportunity to be seeded in the Bronze, Silver or Gold Cups. Each cup will claim a victor at the end of the month, and rewards of approximately £11,500* of in-game currency will be doled out to participants.

Players striving to compete in the Road to Paris Finals will have to ensure their placement in the Gold Cup through active game participation. Participating in the Gold Cup will allow players to gather Season Points and climb the Road to Paris leaderboard.

On December 21, the top eight players with the most Season Points will earn their ticket to the Grand Finale, a chance to win part of the £12,350** prize pool and most importantly, a shot at the World Champion title.
