Super Mario Kart Sees a Surprise Release on the Wii U Virtual Console

While we usually don’t think about new eShop releases until Thursday, Nintendo have snuck up on us and gave us a reason to celebrate it seems. As of today, you can download Super Mario Kart for the Wii U in all of its now Gamepad enabled greatness.

Sure, it is a lot different if you’re riding by from those wondrous streets in Mario Kart 8, but nostalgia and crisp gameplay that still holds up well is the reason for admission here, and frankly, I am just happy to see the Wii U getting more Virtual Console love. What will tomorrow bring? Probably the normal mix, but today we have a new glimmer of hope that even more classics (Super Mario RPG, and dare I even say Donkey Kong Country) just might see some love on the eShop yet again.

Yesterday we learned that Persona 4’s Margaret will be released as a post-launch piece of DLC for Persona 4 Arena Ultimax and today Famitsu has placed a preview of her fighting style online. As you can see below, Margaret will be using a number of Personas in combat, including Yoshitsune, Ardha, Cu Chulainn.

She will also make use of a powerful one-hit KO finishing move called the Morning Star of the Dawn which makes use of the Lucifer Persona. Currently no details have been revealed as to when Margaret will be released for the title, nor has Atlus USA had anything to say about the newly revealed fighter.

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition to hit PS4 and Xbox One in October

You know that old saying about letting sleeping dogs lie? Well Square Enix isn’t going to be following that saying when it comes to their Sleeping Dogs. It has been discovered thanks to an Amazon listing that Square Enix is planning on releasing a Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 14th.

The listing says that the game has been “rebuilt specifically for next-gen consoles” and will feature all of the downloadable content. Interestingly enough, those who pre-order the title at its current $59.99 price tag will be given a limited edition package that will include a 28 page art book.

Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus and Bon Appétit to be released in Europe and Australia

While we knew that XSEED Games was planning on releasing Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus and Senran Kagura: Bon Appétit in North America sometime this Fall, gamers in Europe were left wondering when, and in the case of Australia, if they would get either game. Well you can rest easy as today Marvelous Europe announced that they will be handling the distribution of the title themselves in both regions.

Series producer Kenichiro Takaki said that “We were surprised and delighted that the Senran Kagura series has been so well received in Europe. The team is very excited that these new titles will soon be released for the rest of the world to enjoy.”

Both titles will be released as digital downloads for the PS Vita later in the year and with this announcement came a number of new screenshots for the title as well as a re-release of the E3 trailer for Shinovi Versus.

Hasbro Game Channel to launch on PS4 and Xbox One this Fall

While there are numerous games available for next-gen consoles, the amount of simple family friendly titles are pretty slim. As such Ubisoft and Hasbro have announced the Hasbro Game Channel which will bring family board games Monopoly, Risk, and Trivia Pursuit to the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

While no price was announced for the downloadable titles, the channel will launch worldwide in Autumn 2014 and feature Monopoly Plus that includes both the classic board and a new 3D board, Risk, and Trivial Pursuit Live!. Screenshots and a gameplay trailer showing off each board game can be found below.

Broforce/The Expendables 3 Crossover The Expendabros Blasts Onto Steam

Well, ain’t this a match made in (gun) fiery hell? Indie developer Free Lives and publisher Devolver Digital have just released an official crossover between their game Broforce and the upcoming blockbuster action sequel The Expendables 3, called The Expendabros.

Available via Steam for PC, free until December 31, The Expendabros is a standalone release from Broforce, which is still in Early Access. It features ten missions set against the tree tops and lumber mills of Eastern Europe, introducing seven legendary soldiers (who may look familiar to you). Each has their own set of unique weapons and special attacks, and playing with up to three other friends in 4-player, local co-op seems like a real blast. Take down ruthless arms dealer Conrad Stonebanks together by downloading the title here.

Dark romance manga Black Rose Alice’s first volume now available for purchase

Fans of Viz Media‘s Shojo Beat label will be happy to hear that the company has released a new manga series today called Black Rose Alice with the first volume being available for purchase both in print for $9.99 in the US or $12.99 in Canada or digitally for $6.99. The series has more than six volumes under its belt and Viz is planning on releasing a new English volume on a bi-monthly basis.

The story of Black Rose Alice takes place in early 1900s Vienna where a man named Dimitri Lewandowski is killed in an accident only for his corpse to become the host of seeds from a vampire master. Although he insists that nothing has changed once he awakens, when people begin to die around him he is forced to accept the horrible truth.

The author and the artist for Black Rose Alice is the award winning Setona Mizushiro and Viz Media’s editor for the series, Pancha Diaz, had the following to say about Black Rose Alice:

“Black Rose Alice is a dark supernatural romance with a suspenseful storyline that puts its own unique twist on the vampire genre. After a prologue set in a beautifully rendered 1900s Vienna, the series flashes forward to modern Japan where Dimitri, who has become a fully developed vampire, appears in the dreams of a heartbroken woman to present a sinister proposal – he will save her fatally injured love, for a terrible price!”

Incoming Mario Kart 8 Update Includes Requested Features and New DLC

Think of everything wrong with Mario Kart 8. It’s probably not a long list but there are most likely some minor annoyances in there. Luckily for the 1.2 million plus Mario Kart 8 owners a free update is inbound and includes solutions to many of the problems fans have been complaining about since release. New features in the update will include:

Drivers will now have the option to display the course map on the TV screen during races.
Users will be able to check out statistics such as their total number of coins accumulated, win-loss record from online play, and their most frequently selected character overall.
Users will be able to change options of others’ Mario Kart TV downloaded highlight reels, such as changing the focus to a new character or event.
The order of the menu after each race will be changed to “Next Race”, followed by “Watch Highlight Reel”.
The game will remember the most recent customised kart settings that were selected, even if the Wii U system is powered down.
Improvements to stability of connection in online play to enhance the user experience.

To coincide with this update, some free DLC will also be available. In a partnership with Mercedes Benz three new cars will be available for the cast to race in including the 1957 300 SL Roadster, the 1934 W 25 Silver Arrow Legendary formula one racing car and the new SUV from Mercedes called the GLA. All cars come in classic Mercedes Grey but one screenshot showing Peach driving a red 300 SL have revealed other colours will be available. The DLC and update will be launching worldwide on the 22nd anniversary of the Mario Kart series on August 27th. A special worldwide Mercedes Cup Tournament will also be running to celebrate the update and anyone can enter as long as they download the Mercedes DLC.

This is not the first Nintendo has teamed up with a real company for in game content. In Mario Golf: World Tour for the Nintendo 3DS players could earn exclusive Callaway golf gear by participating in special tournaments. You can watch the trailer showcasing the DLC below.
