KOEI TECMO REVEALS INFORMATION ON AVAILABLE WEAPONS AND SUPPORTING CHARACTERS IN NIGHTS OF AZURE

KOEI TECMO REVEALS INFORMATION ON AVAILABLE WEAPONS AND SUPPORTING CHARACTERS IN NIGHTS OF AZURE

BURLINGAME, Calif. – December 10, 2015 KOEI TECMO America released today new images and information on the weapons and supporting cast of Nights of Azure, the brand new RPG from GUST studios. Nights of Azure is currently in development for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system and is planned for release on March 29, 2016 across North America.

In Nights of Azure, the player controls Arnice, a member of a knightly order called ‘Curia’ tasked with protecting humanity from the azure-blooded demons that surface during the night. Unlike previous GUST titles, the protagonist has a very active role in the game’s real-time battle system. Arnice takes on her enemies armed with a variety of impressive weapons ranging from a simple sword to a long-range gun with special healing abilities. She gradually becomes proficient with five types of weapons, including a battle hammer that deals area-of-effect damage, a dagger that causes a bleeding effect, and a longsword that drains her enemies’ blood to increase attack bonuses.

Additionally, a cast of colorful characters surround Arnice while she strives to complete her quest! Three of the key human non-playable characters frequent the hotel that Arnice uses as a base: Simon, the hotel manager who has a strange connection to the Curia, Professor Alucard, a shady doctor who always tries to provoke Arnice, and Lloyd, a scavenger and merchant who trades at the hotel cafe. Arnice also regularly visits the art museum to see Corinne, an elder knight of the Curia who often offers Arnice valuable advice.

However, the kingdom of Ruswal is also home to curious beings such as Christophorus, a pure-blooded, mask-wearing demon who lives at the Opera House and shows up to give our protagonist advice at seemingly random moments. Mistral is another pure-blooded demon who poses no threat to humans. Fashionable and fascinating, she lives at the Palace and seems to have given up her quest of finding the soul of Nightlord, the demon overlord.

Strange and intriguing, this unlikely band of comrades will all play their part in sealing Arnice’s fate as she untwines the threads of her dark destiny.

About Nights of Azure

Under the direction of Keisuke Kikuchi (Fatal Frame, Deception IV), Nights of Azure marks a new, darker direction for GUST while maintaining many of the gameplay elements adored by dedicated fans of the studio. Nights of Azure is a tragic tale of two friends faced with impossible decisions that will test their loyalty to their quest and to each other.

In the kingdom of Ruswal, very few people leave their homes after nightfall, let alone have the strength and skill to take on the powerful monsters that plague the island. One of the best among these brave few is the protagonist, Arnice, a knight of great skill and power, who is assisted by her friend and priestess Lilysse in a quest to rid the land of demons. However, they soon find out that the solution to the island’s problems might not be as simple as defeating enemies in battle.

TURBO UNVEILS SUPER SENSO, A TURN-BASED ACTION STRATEGY GAME COMING TO MOBILE IN EARLY 2016

TURBO UNVEILS SUPER SENSO, A TURN-BASED ACTION STRATEGY GAME COMING TO MOBILE IN EARLY 2016

PvP Multiplayer Action for the Growing Mobile Esports Scene

Public Beta Signups Now Open

NEW YORK – Dec. 10, 2015 – TURBO was founded in Brooklyn in 2013 by a crack team of veteran talent from Nintendo, Sony, Riot, Square Enix, Blizzard and CCP Games. The studio has revealed its first original title, Super Senso, a turn-based action strategy game built to transform real-time, player-vs-player combat on mobile devices. Designed for synchronous, competitive play, Super Senso combines hardcore gameplay with tongue-in-cheek humor to create one seriously engaging, battle-anywhere experience.

“TURBO began with a common dream to make the kinds of killer core games that we’re personally stoked to play,” said TURBO’s Chief Executive Officer, Yohei Ishii. “With Super Senso, we’re crafting a sophisticated style of tactical gameplay that’s accessible to all gamers, but built for the hardcore community that’s looking for a higher level of competition than what’s currently available for mobile.”

Inspired by the Nintendo classic Advance Wars, Super Senso pits player versus player in fast-paced matches on vivid 3D battlefields to compete for rare rewards, exclusive content and global supremacy. Players collect and unleash massive, customized mechs on their enemies while amassing unstoppable, smash-up armies of zombie soldiers, tanks, ninjas, weaponized dinosaurs, UFOs and much more. Outsmart, outplay and obliterate opponents in PvP battles of epic proportions!

Super Senso is targeted squarely at the rapidly evolving, hardcore mobile games community, and TURBO has already enlisted players from prominent esports teams to collaborate on game development and post-launch tournament activities. Flying in the face of prevailing trends, Super Senso sticks to a simple, pro-player philosophy: free-to-play does NOT need to mean pay-to-win. Microtransactions will afford players with multiple choices for unlocking new content, as well as cosmetic personalization options, but TURBO’s vision is to create a balanced, play-to-win experience for its users.

Super Senso will arrive as a free-to-play game for iOS and Android devices in early 2016. For those that can’t wait, TURBO is currently accepting public beta signups at www.supersenso.com. For the latest news, please follow the game on Twitter (@SuperSensoGame), Facebook (www.facebook.com/SuperSenso) and Instagram (@SuperSenso).

MEET THE HEADS OF THE CLASS: MARVEL AND TINYCO REVEAL NEW YOUNGER VERSIONS OF KEY CHARACTERS IN MARVEL AVENGERS ACADEMY

MEET THE HEADS OF THE CLASS: MARVEL AND TINYCO REVEAL NEW YOUNGER VERSIONS OF KEY CHARACTERS IN MARVEL AVENGERS ACADEMY

Marvel Entertainment and TinyCo have unveiled a first-look at the newly re-imagined Avengers as they will appear in MARVEL Avengers Academy, the upcoming adventure / simulation title for iPhone®, iPad®, iPod Touch® and Android™ devices. MARVEL Avengers Academy will feature a rich cast with hundreds of characters from the Marvel Avengers universe, re-imagined as students navigating the social ups and downs of Academy life, while protecting the world, and developing their trademark super powers.

Released via Marvel’s YouTube channel, a new character video reveals to the world for the first time what Captain America, The Hulk, Iron Man, and Thor will all look like in TinyCo’s upcoming game about Super Heroes in training to one day save the world:

  • Captain America – The living legend and natural born leader just might be the only mature person at the Academy, so he’s a perfect fit to lead away missions and serve as Class President. But that doesn’t mean he relates to his classmates. The guys respect him, the girls adore him, and Hydra hates him, but he’s still trying to find his place in this crazy world, and even crazier campus.
  • The Hulk – He’s the ultimate Big Man on Campus, a gentle giant who just happens to be “the strongest there is.” He does his best to learn and fit in, but this Academy wasn’t made for invulnerable behemoths, so his anxiety and frustrations inevitably turn to anger and that’s not good for anyone.
  • Iron Man – Tony Stark is a billionaire. A genius. An inventor. And he’ll be more than happy to tell you about all of his other talents. He’s a charming, self-centered, ladies-man-in-training who wants to save the world, and make sure everyone knows he’s the handsome, ingenious hero who did it.  He brings Stark Tower with him to Avengers Academy so that he can work in his high-tech lab, relax in his high-rise hot tub, and remind everyone that he owns a skyscraper with his name on it.
  • Thor – He’s the literal golden god of Avengers Academy. An impossibly handsome, ridiculously strong, and unbelievably athletic exchange student who thrives on competition and seeks out confrontation. He’s effortlessly popular even though he never seems to really understand his new Midgardian classmates, and ends up causing trouble just as often as he saves the day.
  • Black Widow – She’s on a single-minded mission to uncover the Academy’s secrets, while avoiding her annoying classmates. Unfortunately, she has to trust people and make friends because she’ll need help from her fellow heroes to find what Nick Fury is hiding, and defeat dangerous enemies everywhere from Asgard to right under her feet.

These characters and many more will be available to play and interact with through many unique adventures in MARVEL Avengers Academy, each offering their own unique backstory to be unveiled through the gameplay. You’ll encounter a deep roster of fan favorites like the fun and bubbly Wasp, the blue-collar slacker Hawkeye, mischievous Loki, former janitorial robot Ultron, and of course overseeing all of it is Nick Fury, Dean of Students. Prepare to enter a vision of the Avengers universe that you’ve never seen before.

XCOM 2 Hands-On Preview

XCOM-2-Screenshot-02

If you’ll allow me a moment get my fanboy credentials out of the way, I’m going to tell you straight up that I am a huge fan of the XCOM series. I love playing as a paramilitary organisation trying to defend the Earth from aliens. The love the interplay of tactical and strategic choices with soldiers gaining experience and dying in the course of duty. I love managing funding and research into the unknown alien forces assaulting humanity. It was to my great delight that I was invited to preview the new XCOM 2, developed by Firaxis Games, at the 2K Games branch office in Sydney. Does the new game bear the torch of its successful predecessor or has the old formula been altered too much? Read on, dear reader.

XCOM-2-Screenshot-01

The biggest alteration that immediately comes to view is that the nature of the XCOM organisation has changed from paramilitary organisation to guerrilla resistance group. From my limited time with the hands on, this impacts on the tactical and strategic gameplay to a significant extent. On a strategic sense, XCOM is now based on a mobile alien carrier that travels around the world evading the alien forces. Missions are now given to you via resistance groups fighting the Alien administration rather than through funding nations. The aliens themselves also have their own agenda that they’re pushing with a related countdown indicating how long it will take to complete as well as a related mission option you can undertake to disrupt it. There is an overall countdown as well which indicates how long it will take before the aliens complete their final objective (game over).

I can’t talk too much about research, as the devs didn’t want any spoilers to come out in regards to the plot but mechanically it appears to be unchanged. You still need to collect bodies and equipment from the field to research back at the home base. I noticed that there also appeared to be a possibility for research to become instantaneous when you’ve received enough research credits but I’ve received conflicting responses to that question so I’m not entirely sure myself what’s going on there…

XCOM-2-Screenshot-03

The base building itself retains its ‘honeycomb’ structure from XCOM: Enemy Unknown, but is now based inside of a hollowed out alien carrier rather than a volcano. The big change here is that freeing up space via excavation actually involves clearing out the wreckage of the alien carrier (which actually GIVES you resources). The limitation is that you need to assign an engineer to clear out the wreckage and you have a limited staff to begin with you so you need to make choices between expanding the base in the long run or creating items in the present for immediate use. Workshops and laboratories now require staff to function (rather than providing staff) and can be upgraded to increase their capacity. A nice touch which I noticed was that the facilities show the staff working in them when they are manned, which is a nice addition from the last game.

XCOM-2-Screenshot-04

Tactical gameplay is largely kept the same from Enemy Unknown with your team and the enemy taking turns one after the other. Each unit generally has two action points which they can use to move, shoot and activate abilities. Each soldier generally has their own set abilities they can activate such as use of a grenade launcher or combat drone. These abilities are earned when levelling up the soldier and generally fall into two specialised categories, as was the case in the previous game. The classes which I was able to play with so far are the grenadier (specialised for heavy weapons/explosives), sharpshooter (specialised for Sniping/Pistols), ranger (specialised for stealth and melee), and specialist (specialised for hacking/support) with the last one; a psyionic operative of some sort, not being available. The classes are distinct from their predecessors but one can see similarities between the old and new variants.

The enemy units are now markedly different from the enemy units you encountered in Enemy Unknown. For a start most of them are genetically altered humans who are working for the alien administration called ‘Advent’. These guys act as your basic grunts who run around and largely have the same capabilities as your soldiers. The alien units themselves become akin to mini-bosses in each level as they generally come with powerful capabilities that will be difficult to counter in the early game (such as when a viper pulled my sniper out of their rooftop nest from half the map away). Even the once humble Sectoid is now a force to be reckoned with due to his ability to psychically bring a dead soldier back to life as a zombie under their control. It’s an interesting change which I think suits the game thematically as well as changing things mechanically from the previous game.

XCOM-2-Screenshot-06

Two completely new mechanics are the ‘concealment’ and ‘hacking’ concepts. At the start of most missions, XCOM units start ‘concealed’ as enemy units are not aware of their presence and will not actively fight against them unless they spot them by being too close or flanking them. If they are not spotted, soldiers can generally fire upon enemy units in a surprise attack with overwatch shots being used to help create an ambush. Hacking as another feature involves a ‘push your luck’ mechanic wherein when activating certain objects in the environment, you can hack them to try and disable them or give yourself a bonus of some sort. The hacking minigame generally gives you an option between two benefits (with one being more difficult) with a penalty for a failure before it randomly rolls a number. If your number exceeds the threshold, which is determined by the difficulty you chose, then you’ve succeeded!

One addition to the loadout options of troops is the addition of new mods to be applied to specific weapons. These can alter certain capabilities such as giving a greater ammo capacity or giving a percentage chance for a weapon to not use an action point when fired. Some of these upgrades are permanent and cannot be swapped out while others can be changed at will without destroying the mod. These add interesting new additions to the micro-management of your forces and I for one always welcome anything which might give an advantage.

XCOM-2-Screenshot-05

The game code I was able to play is largely finished with most of the design elements in place and ready to play. Unfortunately there were still a number of bugs which need to be sorted as there were a number of rather annoying instances where soldiers could either not hack the objective or didn’t move to the right square. It was particularly annoying when my ranger got mauled to death by a zombie who attacked her through a wall… but hey, I’m sure they’ll get these kinks sorted out by the time the game releases in February next year.

Overall, I’m optimistic and looking forward to seeing more of the game as more comes out on February 5th in 2016. You can pre-order the game on steam here.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows First Trailer

teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-2-screenshot-01

Last year, Paramount Pictures released a little movie based on a beloved comic book and television franchise; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I’ll be real, the movie was not very well recieved at all, with casual moviegoers and longtime Turtles fans leaving disappointed.

TMNT2-screenshot-02

Well, it looks like Paramount have stood back up, dusted themselves off and given it another go! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (not to be confused with the video game of the same name) follows on from last year’s film and looks to introduce some classic characters as Bebop, Rocksteady, Casey Jones and of course the infamous Turtle Van.

TMNT2-Screenshot-01

Check out the first trailer below and let us know if you are excited, anxious or uninterested in giving the TMNT another go.
