Hell Will Freeze Over This Summer: New Trailer For Permafrost Reveals August 21 Release Date

The coolest story-based survival sandbox will enter Early Access on PC shortly before gamescom 2026

Oberhaching, Germany, June 6, 2026 – There is no escape from the cold. In the aftermath of a cataclysmic event known only as “The Shattering”, the whole Earth has been swallowed by ice, snow and constant sub-zero temperatures. What remains of humanity clings to survival. Challenge the overwhelming odds and prove that you have the skills and the resolve not only to survive in these unforgiving conditions, but to bring the splintered factions of society back together again. It is time to show your resilience and overcome the Permafrost. How long will you last?

Your chance to face the white hell in this sub-zero story-based survival sandbox is almost here. Development studio SpaceRocket Games and German publisher Toplitz Productions unveiled a new trailer for Permafrost at this year’s Summer Game Fest Green Games Showcase, which is focusing on games that reconnect us with nature, spark hope for the future and remind us what’s worth protecting.

Not only does the fresh video impress with new gameplay footage, but it also announces August 21, 2026 as the Early Access release date on PC for the highly anticipated survival game, whose demo gathered more than 300,000 downloads during its run at Steam Next Fest.

Players ready to become the protagonist Rook, a tech-savvy engineer able to build and craft tools from scraps, don’t have to wait that long, though. They can start looking for their long-lost friend Icarus and try to overcome the frozen wastelands, predatory wildlife and hostile factions vying for supremacy in the upcoming playtest. The date for the playtest will be announced soon, but interested players can head over to the official Steam product page already to register. With a bit of luck they will not only be able to enter the frozen landscape before the official release date, but also help the development team with their invaluable feedback. And don’t forget to tell your friends, because you can brave the cold not only solo just with your trusted dog at your side, but also in co-operative multiplayer for up to 4 survivors.

About the game

Permafrost is a story-driven survival sandbox set in a frozen, post-apocalyptic world. Discover a vast lore-rich open world, alone or in co-op with up to 4 players. Explore, scavenge, craft, and build a network of shelters to outlast the cold.

  • The Cold is your true enemy!
The cold is alive and ever-present. Frostbite, storms, and creeping chill shape every journey, turning preparation, shelter, and timing into matters of survival.
  • A frozen open world to explore!
Traverse a frozen open world where city ruins fade into wilderness. A tense, grounded survival experience shaped by silence and scarcity – no constant gunfire, no fantasy tropes. Just winter, isolation, and resolve.
  • Exploration-Gated progression!
Progress is earned through exploration and adaptation. Restore abandoned shelters, repair broken machines, and reclaim fragile technology to push deeper into the frozen world.
  • Your Dog as your loyal companion!
Your loyal dog companion stands with you when the cold turns everything else silent. Rescued from the ruins, your dog scouts ahead, warns of danger, carries supplies, and keeps you grounded when the silence gets to be too much.
  • Symbiotic 1-4 player Co-Op Survival!
The cold doesn’t care how many of you there are. Play solo or survive alongside up to 3 friends, building shelter networks, dividing responsibilities, and playing to each other’s strengths. Co-op doesn’t simplify the world; it just means you don’t face the cold alone.

Permafrost will be available on PC in Early Access on Steam, GOG.com and EGS on August 21, 2026. More information can be found on the store pages. Join our official Discord server to get the latest news about Permafrost as well as the other exciting titles from Toplitz Productions.

Soft Rains’ Ambrosia Sky: Act Two Launches August 6 on Steam for PC

Revealed at the Story-Rich Showcase, the clean-em-up immersive sim’s final chapter arrives this summer

Toronto, Canada – June 6, 2026 – Canadian indie developer Soft Rains today announced during the Story-Rich Showcase that Ambrosia Sky: Act Two – the conclusive chapter of Dalia’s journey – will launch on PC via Steam on August 6, 2026.

Act Two follows the successful release of Ambrosia Sky: Act One last fall. Ambrosia Sky is a clean-‘em-up adventure and immersive sim, where players explore abandoned space colonies ravaged by a sentient, erratic fungus that left many dead or missing. As Dalia, a young field scientist returning home to The Cluster, players cleanse the contamination with an upgradeable chemical sprayer, lay the dead to rest, and work to end the crisis.

Ambrosia Sky: Act Two Release Date Trailer:

As she closes in on the truth behind the disaster consuming The Cluster, Dalia continues her search for her ex-girlfriend Maeve while laying the dead to rest and collecting DNA to advance research into human immortality. The final act resolves the major threads introduced in Act One while expanding the experience with new mission locations, fresh exo-fungus types to harvest and survive, and a reworked progression system with additional upgrades.

Key Features

  • Cleanse the Contamination: Ambrosia Sky’s unique gameplay blends FPS action with meditative cleaning. Cleanse alien fungus with your chemical sprayer, harvest its fruit, and upgrade your gear to survive the spreading crisis.
  • Discover an Alien Ecosystem: Each species of alien fungus has unique behaviors and properties – some explode, others electrify, and some will even hunt you down.
  • Research and Update Your Equipment: Craft new ammo types that mimic the abilities of fungus you encounter. Upgrade your sprayer’s efficiency, create new spray types, or enhance your tether to better navigate and explore the unstable gravity fields of the colony.
  • Navigate Zero-G Environments: Traverse treacherous pockets of unstable gravity throughout the Cluster. Use your tether to grab objects, uncover hidden corners of the colony, and explore environments where unpredictable fluctuations in gravity can change direction and strength at any time.
  • Lay the Dead to Rest: Seek out the tragic victims of the crisis and lay them to rest in poignant scenes that unravel the mystery of what happened and why.

Ambrosia Sky: Act Two will launch as a free update for existing players. For new players, a limited-time 20% launch discount will allow them to pick up the full game at just $11.99 USD. Following the promotional period, the full game price will increase to $24.99 to reflect the expanded experience.

The Mermaid Mask Launches July 16 on PC & Consoles, including Switch 2

Crow Country and Tangle Tower developer SFB Games announces The Mermaid Mask launches on PC and consoles, including Nintendo Switch 2, on July 16th 2026

London, UK – Saturday, June 6th 2025 – SFB Games, the studio behind Tangle Tower and cult favourites including Crow Country and Nintendo Switch launch title Snipperclips, today announced The Mermaid Mask, a stylish, witty, and atmospheric new instalment in the beloved Detective Grimoire series, launches on PC, Steam Deck, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 on July 16th.

In the pitch-black waters beyond a long-abandoned fishing town, the enigmatic Captain Magnus Mortuga (rumoured to be everything from an immortal time-traveller to a cursed vampire) has been found dead within his submarine.

His body lies alone inside a locked room, marked by a single fatal wound, yet no weapon can be found. At the centre of the chamber sits an ancient, barnacle-covered cauldron with a heavy metal lid; recently opened, its interior eerily empty except for deep, unexplained scratches.

Summoned by the mysterious Captain Seafoam, players step into the shoes of Detective Grimoire and his sharp-tongued partner Sally to unravel the truth. Armed with little more than a cryptic letter and two photographs, they are drawn aboard the world’s strangest submarine and into a mystery that defies logic.

The Mermaid Mask builds on the acclaimed formula of Tangle Tower, blending clever puzzle-solving with sharp writing and a richly stylised world. Players will:

  • Investigate an impossible locked-room murder
  • Explore a sprawling, hand-crafted submarine filled with secrets
  • Interrogate a cast of eccentric, fully voice-acted suspects
  • Find and piece together clues to uncover motive, means, and opportunity
  • Experience satisfying “aha!” moments through layered puzzle design

Balancing dark themes with light-hearted British humour, the game delivers a cozy-creepy experience that has become a signature of SFB Games.

Returning to their roles are acclaimed voice actors Edwyn Tiong (Loco Motive, Harold Halibut, Unavowed) as Detective Grimoire and Amber Lee Connors (Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, The Outer Worlds 2) as Sally.

They are joined by a diverse ensemble of English-language voice talent spanning games, anime, film, and radio, including Tara Langella (Hades II, The Outer Worlds 2), David Menkin (Pragmata, Still Wakes the Deep), Steven Kearney (SimCity), Justine Leah Hince (Killer Kiss, UnOrdinary), Anairis Quiñones (Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World, Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie), Eric Morgan Stuart (Life is Strange, Batman: Caped Crusader), Jacqui Bardelang (Metaphor: ReFantazio, Baldur’s Gate 3), Christy Meyer (Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, Dead Island 2) and Alex Bankier (Cat’s Eye, Code Geass: Dakkan no Z).

The game features expressive animations and hand-drawn characters by Velvet V and Catherine Unger, bringing each suspect vividly to life, alongside a rich, cinematic score by Raphael Benjamin Meyer, performed by the Budapest Art Orchestra. A major improvement from Tangle Tower – the clues are now fully 3D interactive objects, modelled by Kindra Dantone.

From interrogating suspicious crew members to decoding cryptic evidence, The Mermaid Mask challenges players to think like true detectives.

Prepare to take the plunge with The Mermaid Mask launches July 16, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. A playable demo is available now on Steam, offering players an early glimpse into the studio’s most ambitious mystery yet.

For more information on The Mermaid Mask and to add the game to your wishlist, visit the game’s Steam page.
