Conga Master Dances its Way onto Steam

conga-master-screenshot-01

Rising Star Games (One upon Light) and and Undercoders announced the PC launch of their party arcade game Conga Master today. The game pits up to four players against each other to create the longest conga line on the dance floor. Be careful though! While longer lines grow faster, there are plenty of stinky pigs looking to wreck your party and break up your epic conga line. The game features highly accessible controls that use only two buttons, six different multiplayer modes, and two singleplayer modes. At launch, there are 30 characters and seven clubs to play in.

Conga Master is available now on Steam and other digital retailers for $9.99 USD/€8.99/£7.99. The game will be coming to consoles in early 2017.

Syndrome Bringing Old-School Horror Back to PC on October 6th

syndrome-screenshot-01

Camel 101 and BIGMOON Entertainment announced that Syndrome will be coming to PC on October 6th. The old school horror game is set on a spaceship whose crew is either insane or dead. The player isn’t in a much better position, as they have no memories. Players will need to discover the events that occurred on the ship while they try to stay alive.

Ammunition and equipment are in scarce supply, forcing gamers to make the difficult decision of when to run and when to fight. Enemies hit hard and aren’t afraid to investigate suspicious noises or disturbances. The claustrophobic setting on the space ship makes enemies all the more terrifying.

Syndrome will run on Linux, Mac, and Windows. A console release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will follow in early 2017.

Former Rovio “Mighty Eagle” Peter Vesterbacka Named “Brand Breaker” for Learning Game Studio Lightneer Inc. Following €2.8 Million Financing Round

New advisory board assembled as education gaming innovator moves forward on its debut title, Big Bang Legends, launching in 2017

HELSINKI – Sept. 14, 2016 – Lightneer Inc., the learning game development studio, has appointed Peter Vesterbacka, the former Mighty Eagle and brand ambassador for Rovio Entertainment Ltd.’s Angry Birds franchise, as its new “brand breaker” and company evangelist. Once featured as one of TIME’s most influential people, Vesterbacka is a founding member of Lightneer, having served as a board member and investor until now.

“Peter’s big time involvement with Lightneer is yet another demonstration of our firm belief that ‘ed tech’ deserves world-class video game talent,” said Lauri Järvilehto, CEO and co-founder of Lightneer. “Our ambition is to fuel a global revolution in how children learn, and a vision of that magnitude needs minds that understand that a great play experience is also a tremendous learning experience.”

Vesterbacka’s new role at Lightneer arrives alongside the news the studio has completed a €2.8 million ($3.16 million) financing round. This new investment is led by venture capital funds GSV Acceleration, joining with €1.8 million ($2.03 million), and IPR.VC, providing €1 million ($1.13 million). This brings the total investment into Lightneer to €3.5 million ($3.94 million).

“I’ve been vocal for a long time about my passion for using games as tools for learning,” said Vesterbacka. “But such an undertaking demands nothing less than a dedicated commitment of energy, resources and creativity on all of our parts. I could not be more thrilled to help the team at Lightneer change the paradigm of our relationships with games.”

Lightneer also announced the formation of a new advisory board, drawing expertise from a far-reaching array of disciplines to further its founding mission to make games with engaging educational value. The company has enlisted Tom Kalinske, former CEO of Mattel, Inc., SEGA of America, Inc., and LeapFrog Enterprises, Inc., and current executive chairman of Global Education Learning, dedicated to child education in Asia, as well as Ian Livingstone, co-founder of Games Workshop, co-creator of the Fighting Fantasy series of roleplay gamebooks, and former executive chairman of Eidos Interactive. In addition, the advisory board includes Marcus du Sautoy, the Simonyi Professor for the Public Understanding of Science and professor of mathematics at the University of Oxford, and Visiting Professor of Practice Pasi Sahlberg from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education.

Announced earlier this year, Lightneer’s first title, Big Bang Legends, is a role-playing puzzler that brings the periodic table of elements to life as clever collectible characters to help players of all ages learn about physics and chemistry. Developed in collaboration with experts from CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, the game breaks down complex subjects like atomic particles and nuclear fusion in fun, digestible ways. It will arrive globally on iOS and Android devices in 2017.

About Lightneer Inc.

Lightneer Inc. was founded in 2015 in Helsinki, a hotbed of innovative education and gaming, to produce interactive entertainment with meaningful learning value with the same level of quality as the world’s biggest hits. The team is comprised of veterans from industry leaders like Rovio Entertainment, Digital Chocolate, Gameloft and more. The studio’s name alludes to one who combines the audacity and vision of a philosopher with the practicality and grit of an engineer.

Pericles Leads Greece in Civilization VI

2K and Firaxis Games today revealed that Pericles will lead Greece in Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, launching on Oct 21st for Windows PC.

Pericles was an influential Greek statesman and general of the Athens army during the Golden Age of Athens. He oversaw a period of strong economic and cultural growth immediately following the successful defense against the invading Persian army in 478 BC.

After making peace with Persia, Pericles moved the unified Greek armies to Athens and what was a loose collection of independent Greek city-states soon after became the Athenian Empire. During this time of unification, Athens produced some of the most influential cultural artifacts humanity has ever seen, and was home to famous playwrights, historians, philosophers, physicians and more.

DISCOVER THE ORIGIN STORY OF REVELATION ONLINE’S OCCULTIST CLASS

Amsterdam, The Netherlands – September 14, 2016 – Global publisher My.com and developer NetEase continue the series of background stories of the iconic classes in Revelation Online. Today, the Occultist is divulged – what lies behind its grim appearance and the second video in the series reveals how the class carefully balances or combines the power of both Darkness and Light. In Revelation Online, the Occultist class switches between using the dark arts for malicious ranged attacks, and the light to heal and strengthen its allies. The scythe-wielding Occultist can switch between both disciplines at will, creating a versatile and dangerous class.
Check out the video on YouTube HERE: www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzzo2bvMwKc&feature=youtu.be

The other 5 classes of Revelation Online are:

  • Blademaster: As secondary tanks and close combat specialists, they combine their twin blade damage with escape skills allowing them to cut through wave after wave of enemies. Their heavy reliance on melee attacks leaves them open to ranged attacks.
  • Vanguard: These steel walls rely on melee combat. Their chief strength is surviving battles of attrition, rather than dealing burst damage.
  • Swordmage: While wielding a falchion they are focused on powerful magic damage, specializing in area of effect spells. They invest all of their energy in sharpened elemental magic, leaving them relatively vulnerable to focused attacks.
  • Spiritshaper: As summoners and healers, they are relatively easy to play and have great survival skills. They are highly sought after on teams for their support and deceitfully high damage output.
  • Gunslinger: With high precise damage they hunt down individual targets from afar or use advanced weaponry for mid-range deterrence. Gunslingers have few control skills and are less effective in close combat.

Players can pick their own play style by freely distributing points to their core character attributes like strength and dexterity past level 40. All classes have diverse skill sets, with over 20 unique skills, which can be further upgraded past level 49 to match the chosen play style. Players are in full control over their class progression.

Revelation Online is a breathtaking Massively Online Multiplayer experience in which players will discover the lands of Nuanor. Explore a vibrant world of ancient mystery, and use the power of flight to experience absolute freedom. Spread your wings or master one of the many aerial mounts to soar through the sky. Dive into the waters or climb to the top of the world – in Revelation Online you can freely reach any place.

Event[0], the Innovative Sci-Fi Narrative Exploration Game, is Now Available on Terminals Everywhere

Build a Relationship Using Natural Language with an Unstable AI Computer to Solve Its Mysteries, Survive, and Return to Earth in This Award-Winning, Indie Fund Backed Project

PARIS – September 14, 2016
Type like your life depends on it as Event[0], the story-driven spacefaring adventure in which players must build a relationship with a lonely spaceship computer to get home, launches today on Windows PC and Mac via Steam, the Humble Store by Humble Bundle, GOG.com, Itch.io, and Games Republic.  A brand new launch trailer provides insight on what players can look forward to in developer Ocelot Society’s sci-fi narrative exploration game, and can be viewed at event0game.com.

Set in a retrofuture inspired by 2001: A Space Odyssey, Solaris and Brave New World, Event[0] is a game about building a personal relationship with a machine using natural language. As a player, your only companion is an insecure and unstable AI entity named Kaizen, with whom you interact by typing messages using antiquated computer terminals throughout a desolated spacecraft. The game’s multi-layered story emerges organically as players communicate with Kaizen, freely explore 3D environments, gather information and solve hacking puzzles. Each player will enjoy a unique gameplay experience based on the way they choose to communicate with Kaizen, who procedurally generates over two million lines of dialog and demonstrates a variety of different personalities, and communication responses, influenced by human input.

As in any relationship, there can be gratitude, disappointment or jealousy, and Kaizen reacts differently depending on its mood and the situation at hand. The ship, Nautilus, is essentially the AI computer’s body, and reacts to Kaizen’s mood by making different sounds, which gives the player subtle yet valuable clues. By working through the fears and anxieties of a virtual companion players can ultimately find the way back to Earth—while unraveling the cryptic history of the ship and the 1980s society from which it emerged.

“We’re extremely proud and excited about our game launch as it’s been a true labor of love from our small team for over a year now and we’ve poured everything into it,” said Sergey Mohov, Founding Partner and Game Designer at Ocelot Society. “What started off as a student project turned into a full game that we’re fortunate to have caught the eye of The Indie Fund to help realize our vision. Event[0] is all about self-expression through dialogue and unique experiences so it will be rewarding to see how players receive and interact with Kaizen in their quest to make it back home alive to Earth.”

The game is created using Unity 5 and utilizes physics-based rendering and advanced lighting techniques to create richly detailed environments inside and outside the ship (players can leave the ship for breathtakingly scary spacewalks). Eschewing a traditional game score, most of the sound, including incidental music, comes from items in the environment.

Event[0] began as a six-month student project before evolving into a full title under the auspices of Ocelot Society, which was founded by key members of the team. The indie game first drew attention as a concept demo that won multiple indie gaming awards, including Innovation at BIG 2015 and Student Award winner at EIGD 2014. Event[0] is now backed by France’s CNC public arts organization and by the Indie Fund, an esteemed funding source for independent developers launched as an alternative to traditional publisher models.

Event[0] is available now on Steam, Humble Bundle, GOG.com, Itch.io, and Games Republic for $19.99.
