More New Pokemon Sun & Moon Evolutions Revealed

pokemon-sun-moon-promo-03

The latest Pokemon Sun & Moon trailer has been released and this time my recapping job is a lot easier as the new video focuses on evolutions of previously revealed Pokemon. As always the full trailer is at the bottom of this page so be sure to check it out to see all these latest evolutions in action as well as Alolan forms of Grimer and Muk and a couple of new trainers.

pokemon-sun-moon-trailer-screenshot-09

Revealed first was the evolution of Type: Null known as Silvally. Now confirmed as some man made attempt at recreating the God of Pokemon Arceus, by inserting exclusive items into the drive on Silvally’s head it is able to change type depending on the type of item inserted. This is due to it’s ability cleverly called RKS. It’s design is very interesting, being near identical to Type: Null minus the head restraint. How it will evolve is unknown but it is siad it will only evolve when it finds a trainer it can trust and it strangely has some connection to Team Skull member Gladion, who was revealed in the same trailer as Type:Null.

Next we have a new 3 stage evolution. Previously revealed Pokemon Jangmo-o evolves into what I believe is the first Dragon/Fighting type ever in a Pokemon game. It’s design and combat revolve around it’s scales. Both new Pokemon Hakamo-o and Kommo-o can have the abilities Soundproof or Bulletproof, giving them immunity to certain sound based moves and ‘cannon’ type moves (such as attacks with Bomb or Ball in there name). Kommo-o learns a unique attack called Clanging Scales which has a lot of attack power but lowers the defense stat.

pokemon-sun-moon-promo-02

Bounsweet will also evolve twice, first into Steenee and then into Tsareena. Steenee can have the abilities Leaf Guard and Oblivious while Tsareena can have Leaf Guard and the unique ability Queenly Majesty which protects it from priority attacks, similarly to Bruxish’ ability. Tsareena gets a unique move called Trop Kick which causes a small amount of damage but also lowers the opponents attack stat. The entire evolution line retains the Grass typing.

pokemon-sun-moon-promo-03

Ribombee is the evolution of Cutiefly and retains the Bug/Fairy typing. There’s not much else to say about Ribombee other than it’s two abilities can be Honey Gather which is useless in battle or Shield Dust which is a very handy ability that stops residual effects of attacks (e.g. thunderbolts chance to paralyze).

pokemon-sun-moon-promo-04

That’s it for brand new Pokemon but two more Pokemon from the very first generation (who seem to be the only one receiving Alolan Forms) got new forms today. Alolan Grimer and Muk gain a Dark typing in addition to their traditional Poison typing. These new forms gain access to biting and scratching moves thanks to the ‘teeth’ that have formed on their body from all the toxins they ingest. They also lose the Stench ability for Gluttony, allowing the Pokemon to eat berries earlier. It is unclear if it will have any stat changes but it is noted these Alolan forms are heavier.

pokemon-sun-moon-promo-05

Lastly two new characters were revealed. On the left is Trial Captain Ilima is an expert in Normal-type Pokémon who graduated from the Trainers’ School and is a hero to the students of that school. Island Kahuna Olivia is the leader of the second island known as Akala Island. She focuses on Rock type Pokemon. Interestingly it seems Trials and Island Leaders will serve as replacements to full fledged Gym battles but there is still a chance more Gyms in some form could be returning.

pokemon-sun-moon-promo-07

In related news discovered from other sources, Mega Kangaskhan had had slight nerf, with the second hit of its ability now only doing 25% of the damage of the first hit as opposed to 50%. The base power of tackle has also been lowered back to 40 base power, where as it was 50 in the previous generation.

This news brings us to over 50 known about new Pokemon that will be featured in the 7th generation, and that’s not even including all the new Alolan Forms of older Pokemon. Be sure to check out our extensive backlog of Pokemon Sun & Moon coverage if you’ve missed anything or need a refresher. Unlike the last few times no date for when the next trailer is dropping was announced but the exclusive demo for the game lands tomorrow on October 18th for the Nintendo 3DS, exactly one month before the launch of the full game.

Travel Back in Time and Learn the Origin of the Yo-kai Watch in YO-KAI WATCH 2, Out Now in Australia and New Zealand

Travel Back in Time and Learn the Origin of the Yo-kai Watch in YO-KAI WATCH 2, Out Now in Australia and New Zealand

Free Demo Now Available to Download on Nintendo 3DS eShop
October 17, 2016 – Watch out! Yo-kai, the strangely charming troublemakers, are back for a new adventure in YO-KAI WATCH 2: Bony Spirits and YO-KAI WATCH 2: Fleshy Souls, exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. Find, befriend and battle more than 350 new and returning Yo-kai as you embark on a new adventure across Springdale and through time to uncover the origin of the Yo-kai Watch.

A huge hit in Japan, the YO-KAI WATCH 2 games have shipped over 6 million copies, and local fans have already been enjoying the second season of the YO-KAI WATCH animated season on Nine Network’s GO! Channel. Fans can also revisit Nate’s first season of adventures on the DVD of YO-KAI WATCH – Season 1 (Classified PG) or by streaming the show on Netflix. The world of Yo-kai will expand even more with Hasbro set to add a variety of new items to its YO-KAI WATCH line in February 2017.

In YO-KAI WATCH 2: Bony Spirits and YO-KAI WATCH 2: Fleshy Souls, players can choose a male or female character before immersing themselves into a brand new journey of discovery, featuring characters you may recognise from the original YO-KAI WATCH video game, plus expanded quests, activities and over 350 new and returning Yo-kai to find, befriend and defeat. You will meet the heroic cat Hovernyan, who will guide your time travel to 60 years in the past, where you’ll need to make sure that the original Yo-kai Watch Model Zero is created – and that your timeline is preserved! Along the way you will meet, battle and befriend Yo-kai; each with their own personality, look, type, backstory and powers. Yo-kai will give you their Medal when you befriend them, allowing you to call on them for help in battle or quests. Equip six Yo-kai Medals in your Yo-kai Watch at any time, or store them in your Medallium: your personal Yo-kai encyclopedia.

The exciting storyline will be the same for each version of the game, but some of the Yo-kai encountered will only be found in either YO-KAI WATCH 2: Bony Spirits or YO-KAI WATCH 2: Fleshy Souls, depending on the version that you play. In addition, for the first time a whole new multiplayer mode is available: Yo-kai Watch Blasters, where you can team up with three friends* in action-packed multiplayer mode to earn rewards that can be used in the single-player adventure. Plus you can battle or trade Yo-kai Medals with your friends online* or via local wireless to complete your Medallium.

The original YO-KAI WATCH video game introduced people to the mysterious Yo-kai. In Japan, these invisible beings – not ghosts or spirits… just Yo-kai! – are steeped in folklore and are the physical manifestation of everyday human troubles. If a child misplaces homework or an adult can’t stop babbling at a work meeting, for instance, it’s probably the work of a troublesome Yo-kai.

Prepare for more Yo-kai mischief this year, with YO-KAI WATCH 2: Bony Spirits and YO-KAI WATCH 2: Fleshy Souls out now in stores and in Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS in Australia and New Zealand (SRP AU$59.95). A free demo of the game is now available to try in select stores and to download in Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS.

Alongside the video game, the YO-KAI WATCH animated TV show is currently being broadcast weekdays at 7:00am and repeated at 3:30pm on Nine Network’s GO! Channel, and the YO-KAI WATCH – Season 1 DVD (Classified PG) series has been released through Roadshow and is available to stream via Netflix. From February 2017 Hasbro will add a variety of new items to its YO-KAI WATCH line.

*Additional games and systems required; sold separately. Wireless internet access required for online features.

Touhou Genso Wanderer and Touhou Double Focus Announced for Western Release

touhou-genso-wanderer-screenshot-7

NIS America has announced that they are doubling down on their Touhou library as they have licensed both Touhou Genso Wanderer and Touhou Double Focus for release in the West. They are planning on releasing Touhou Genso Wanderer physically and digitally for the PlayStation 4 and digitally for the PS Vita in North America on February 7, 2017 and in Europe on February 10th.

All physical copies of the game for the PlayStation 4 will include a copy of Touhou Double Focus (on physical disc in North America and digitally in Europe) at no extra cost and will be featured on the reversible cover and included in the mini-art book. The title will be available for separate digital purchase on the same day as release though no price has been announced at the moment.

Touhou Genso Wanderer is a roguelike RPG set within the expansive Touhou Project which invites the player to play as Reimu, the Hakurei Shrine Maiden, to investigate the latest incident to take place in the world of Gensokyo. As for Touhou Double Focus, after getting sucked into a magical book, Aya and Momiji (yay!) must find their way back home.

Cuphead Officially Delayed to Mid-2017

cuphead-screenshot-005

The developer of Cuphead, Studio MDHR, has announced that they are unfortunately going to be delaying the upcoming 1930s cartoon-inspired game to mid-2017. Previously the developer was aiming to have the game released sometime in 2016 but in an effort to make sure that the game ships with the developer’s “vision intact” the delay was necessary.

Cuphead is still set to be released for the Xbox One and Windows 10 as well as on Steam. For those who haven’t heard of the game, Cuphead is a run and gun action game that is heavily focused on boss battles and thanks to taking inspiration from cartoons in the 1930s, the visuals and audio are created using the same type of techniques from that era such as hand drawn animation, watercolor backgrounds, and original jazz recordings.

Tekken 7 Adds Miguel Caballero Rojo to the Roster

tekken-7-screenshot-086

It looks like those who liked the addition of the new character Miguel Caballero Rojo back in Tekken 6 won’t have to worry about whether the character will have a future with the series as he has been confirmed as part of the Tekken 7 roster. Bandai Namco has released a new trailer showing off his fighting style and a bit of his dialogue (with a couple of rather obvious spelling issues in his subtitles for now) and you can check out the introduction video below.

Currently Tekken 7 is slated to be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC sometime in early 2017.

God Eater 2: Rage Burst Review

god-eater-2-rage-burst-box-art

God Eater 2: Rage Burst

Developer: Shift
Publisher: Bandai Namco
Platforms: PlayStation 4 (Reviewed), PS Vita
Release Date: Available Now
Price: $59.98 USD – Available Here $99.95 AUD – Available Here

Overview

Western fans of Bandai Namco’s God Eater series have had a bit of a rough time on whether or not they would see the series continue to be released here. After God Eater 2 was released in 2013 for the PSP and then later God Eater 2: Rage Burst was released in 2015 many wondered if the title would arrive in the West at all. Thankfully Bandai Namco brought both the enhanced version of the first title and God Eater 2: Rage Burst to Western fans within a few months of each other. So now that God Eater 2: Rage Burst is available, is it worth picking up?

Story

Players begin the game as a fresh recruit to the Blood Faction of the God Eaters. These people are gifted with the special abilities necessary to wield God Arc weapons, the only weaponry that have are capable of slaying the creatures threatening the human race, the Aragami. With the Blood Faction capable of triggering special Blood Art abilities that allow them to unleash extremely powerful attacks, they are essential fighters on the front lines.

god-eater-2-rage-burst-screenshot-43Utilizing a mission-based format to progress the story players will regularly experience little cut-scenes that help flesh out the various side-characters that they will fight alongside, something that is very well done as the cast is quite likable once they are developed, as well as various developments that move the story along. This doesn’t hold up too well in the long run however as the mission format eventually requires quite a bit of progress to be made before any meaningful developments occur, often leaving players hanging dry for hours at a time before the next major event occurs.

Gameplay

God Eater 2: Rage Burst utilizes a mission based structure that allows players to take advantage of the core hub area where they are able to customize their team, change and upgrade weaponry, manage your abilities, and select item loadouts. When you feel prepared to take on a mission you can select one at the “Operator Desk” and head out into a pre-determined area to complete said mission with more than enough time to spare. Generally players can get along just fine with using the AI companions that are provided to them as the ally AI is quite intelligent and capable in combat even against large scale enemies, though there is an option to fight online alongside other players, though attempting to do this might take some time as there are usually very few people online at any given time.

god-eater-2-rage-burst-screenshot-44In combat players can utilize various standard mecahnics such as attacking, jumping, guarding, and various skills to take down the Aragami they are facing off against, whether this means using your melee weapon to deal quick heavy damage or utilizing your firearm to deal damage at a distance. The issue with using the gun is that ammo can only be obtained from dealing damage or consuming enemies, meaning that you only have so many shots at a time, though the benefit here is that these shots can be charged with different elemental types to best target an enemy’s weaknesses.

Using the special “devour” ability of your weapon will obtain extra materials from your enemies that can be used to craft new gear as well as upgrade items you’ve previously created. By literally taking a bite out of your enemies players will also be able to tap into a special ability that is unique to this entry. This is called “Blood Rage” and allows for various buffs to be applied to the character and even give them some temporary invulnerability at the cost of draining the meter even faster.

god-eater-2-rage-burst-screenshot-45Thanks to the various amount of God Arc type weapons that can be used by the player, the sheer number of missions to tackle, and the amount of customization available players will find that God Eater 2: Rage Burst has a tremendous amount of content to be played through, especially once you begin to tap into character specific missions.  That being said, the game does make it so players will need to learn various aspects themselves rather than frontloading the information, this is good for those who like to test their own playstyles before settling into one but can be quite an obstacle to newcomers who find themselves struggling after glossing over certain mechanics.

Visuals & Audio

It is worth noting that although God Eater 2: Rage Burst has been released for the PlayStation 4 that the original game first arrived as a PSP game that was then given an enhanced version for the Vita and PS4. This means that while plenty of additional content has been added to the game and some graphical improvements have also been made, that the character models are a bit rough around the edges but do have some nice designs and unique enemies to face off against. The real improvement here comes in the form of fluid character animation that allows for some outstanding looking combo attacks against the large foes players will come up against.

god-eater-2-rage-burst-screenshot-46With the release of God Eater 2: Rage Burst Bandai Namco has included only the English dub for the game and while the voice actors do fit their roles nicely, there are a few odd elements here. The game makes smart use of the controller speaker for relaying orders but many times throughout the title, even during important cutscenes, the dialogue comes across as extremely muffled to the point that it almost sounds as if the voice work was recorded off of speakers replaying the dialogue rather than a microphone. Thankfully while the dialogue often falters in this form, the soundtrack accompanying this game is outstanding as there are a large amount of great tracks that perfectly fit the nature of the game and help make large battles feel all the more intense.

Overall

God Eater 2: Rage Burst is a highly polished entry for the series and while the storyline may be one of the weaker elements as it takes too long to progress at times, the extra focus spent on the characters is something of a delight. With fantastic combat mechanics and plenty of content to test your skills against, this monster hunting title is one that players can easily sink hours once they learn the basics and begin to understand the more difficult mechanics that appear in later levels.
