When the evil Jester Dhoulmagus comes to Castle Trodain and steals King Trode’s sceptre, he carves a trail of chaos in his wake, beginning by turning his majesty into a troll, Princess Medea into a horse, and the residents of the castle into plants. Only one castle guard escapes the curse, and escorts the King and his daughter on an adventure to retrieve the sceptre, put an end to Dhoulmagus’ diabolical plans, and restore the kingdom of Trodain.

Whether players are revisiting the rich story of DRAGON QUEST VIII: Journey of the Cursed King or diving into the adventure for the first time, they can enjoy brand new content that provides more back-story about the dastardly Dhoulmagus and The Hero who aims to stop him. All cut-scenes vital to the plot are also accompanied by full voice-acting, including the new story content and a new alternative ending.

As well as new adventure content, two new characters can be recruited in the form of Red, a former rival of The Hero’s sidekick Yangus, and Morrie, the owner of the Monster Arena. By capturing specific monsters throughout their adventure, players can create their own bands of monsters to send into battle inside the Monster Arena. More powerful monsters means stronger teams and more cunning strategies to be devised in the quest to best all seven ranks, including the new X Rank.

There are even more enhancements to the classic adventure for players to enjoy, with the new Quick Save function allowing for the action to be paused and saved any time outside of battle and cut-scenes, while the Speed Up feature allows warriors in a hurry to battle monsters with greater haste.

Adventurers can even share mementos of their journey with friends, and at the press of a button can begin setting up and taking their ideal photos, complete with special poses, stickers, filters, and frames to add a personal touch to their memory. All of these images can be saved to the SD card and shared via StreetPass to other DRAGON QUEST VIII: Journey of the Cursed King owners, who can give these images an approving thumbs-up. The more thumbs-up a player earns for their images, the higher the chance that they’ll earn new items to aid them in their quest to defeat Dhoulmagus. Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception and Mask of Truth Confirmed for Western Release

A couple of weeks ago signs were pointing towards the localization of the last two games in the Utawarerumono trilogy and now Atlus USA has confirmed that they are indeed doing that. The company has confirmed that they are releasing the visual novel/strategy RPG Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception onto the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in North America and Europe in Spring 2017 with the sequel, Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth arriving in Fall 2017.

Both Utawarerumono games will be released physically and digitally in North America and in Europe, where the game will be published by Deep Silver, the PlayStation 4 versions will be available physically and digitally while the PS Vita versions will only be available digitally. In North America, the games will be priced at $49.99 for the PlayStation 4 version and $39.99 for the PS Vita version.

The company has released a reveal trailer for Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception as well as a story description below, though it is worth noting that while not necessary, some knowledge of the first unlocalized game will enhance the experience of these two entries.

Originally known as Utawarerumono: Itsuwari no Kamen in Japan, Mask of Deception is a grand tale meant to enchant the hearts and minds of players in search of incredible journey. The game begins atop a snowy mountain where the protagonist awakens in an unfamiliar wilderness, surrounded by deadly creatures, with nothing but a hospital gown and a splitting headache. However, he’s eventually rescued by a beautiful girl named Kuon, who sports both adorable animal ears and a beast-like tail.

Finding that the hapless man has no memory of anything, Kuon decides to take the amnesiac into her care, naming him Haku. As their journey takes them across the land, Haku will (reluctantly) encounter colorful characters (yes, that means more animal people), build deep relationships, battle ruthless enemies, and find himself inexorably dragged into the political machinations of the mighty nation of Yamato.

God Wars: Future Past Launches in the West in Late March

We recently heard from Kadokawa Games that the Japanese release for God Wars: Future Past will be happening in April and while the Western release of such games usually take place after the Japanese release, it looks like this one will be a bit different.

This is because NIS America has announced that they are planning on releasing God Wars: Future Past digitally and physically on the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita on March 28th in North America and March 31st in Europe with the title supporting both English and Japanese voice tracks, making it a Japanese developed game that will be arriving in the West before Japan..
