Grand Theft Auto V Modding Tool OpenIV Shut Down by Take Two

The Grand Theft Auto V modding community was dealt a stunning blow today. The OpenIV project announced on their site they had received a cease and desist letter from Take Two, Rockstar’s parent company, ordering the modders to stop distributing OpenIV based on violations of Take Two’s intellectual property. In a public statement, OpenIV’s Lead Developer GooD-NTS accused Take Two of making GTA modding illegal and stated that the team felt they had violated no laws and respected the integrity of Rockstar’s main monetization strategy for Grand Theft Auto V by not interfering with GTA Online. Clearly, Take Two’s lawyers disagreed as the cease and desist has caused the decade long project to be shuttered.

The loss of OpenIV is a huge blow to the modding community, as it provided extensive tools for modders and allowed for easy installation of mods for the end users. While no other Grand Theft Auto V mod or mod tool projects have announced if they have received a similar C&D from Take Two’s legal team at this time, fans are understandably anxious at the current situation. RP servers have been growing in popularity recently, which is made possible with the FiveM tool.

Dark and Light Teams up with Nvidia to Demo Ansel Tech at E3

Snail Games (ARK Park) and Nvidia teamed up at E3 2017 this year to demo Nvidia’s Ansel technology with Snail’s upcoming RPG Dark and Light. Ansel allows gamers to pause the game at any moment to capture their epic gameplay moments in gigapixel resolution. Once the game is paused, players will be able to manipulate the camera, apply filters, and prepare their screenshots in panoramic view for desktops or in stereoscopic 3D for VR devices. Nvidia Ansel is compatible with most Nvidia GTX cards from the 6xx series and higher.

Dark and Light is a fantasy sandbox survival game set on the planet Alpha. The world flows with magic from six different primal elemental forces. The collapse of the nearby planet Gaia has resulted in chaotic forces driving Alpha’s creatures mad when the sun sets. To survive, players will need to master the elements and become powerful mages to explore, survive, and eventually conquer Alpha.

Dark and Light is scheduled to enter Steam Early Access later in 2017.

Massive Hellion Update to Add Tutorials, Ship Customization, Security Systems

Indie developers Zero Gravity released a preview of the upcoming Update 0.2 for their space survival game Hellion. The update is scheduled to launch on June 22 and is adding female playable characters, new weapons, ship and station customization options, world events, and the first tutorial to help players get their space legs. In addition, the developers are overhauling the loot distribution system to split areas into military, industrial, and civilian zones that will affect the type of loot salvaged in the area. The survival, flight, and navigation systems are also being worked on based on player feedback.

Zero Gravity has released a video introducing players to the game and highlighting the upcoming changes in a new four minute video. The trailer is an excellent demonstration of the game’s Newtonian physics both in and outside space stations.

Hellion is available now on Steam Early Access.
