PC Cooler Manufacturer NZXT in Hot Water over Intrusive CAM Software

NZXT is a PC hardware manufacturer specializing in PC cooling solutions and cases. Their CAM software is supposed to allow NZXT owners control their NZXT fans and help PC users monitor their PC’s temperature, voltage, and FPS via overlay and mobile apps, but it appears that the software is also funneling the data to NZXT in bulk. Users have been complaining about the data usage on reddit for almost a year now, after discovering the CAM software was funneling IP and MAC addresses back to NZXT servers. The most appalling thing was the amount of data being sent back, with one user reporting that CAM sent over 22 GB of data to NZXT and another complaining of intense lag during Quake Champions as a result of the high speed of uploads being used by CAM combined with their already slow internet speeds.

The matter finally came to the forefront on reddit this week, forcing the founder of NZXT to post a statement outlining exactly what sort of data CAM collects and why NZXT is collecting it. He said the data collected was “CPU and GPU temperatures/loads, computer nicknames, user settings (things like your favorite colors, fan curves, custom images, build images, etc.), FPS statistics, monitor resolutions, games being played, game duration, system specs, Windows version, CAM version, RAM loads, drive capacity, IP/MAC addresses … , usage of features with the app like basic mode, advanced mode, full-screen mode, and in-game overlays.” He promised greater transparency on the data NZXT is collecting in the future and having his engineers cut down on the amount of data CAM consumes along with halting the collection of IP and MAC addresses.

The entire matter will hopefully remind gamers to read the Terms of Service carefully. It is incredibly intrusive that the software required to control NZXT hardware that users have already paid for is sending so much personal data to NZXT without an opt out feature. The fact that CAM consumes so much bandwidth while doing so is adding insult to injury, especially for users in places like Australia where internet speed and bandwidth caps are severely limited. As if the entire situation wasn’t embarrassing enough, the founder of NZXT actually capped his announcement off with a job ad for a new ” VP/Director of Engineering to help us evolve and improve our software.”

Tower of Time is Now Available on Steam Early Access

A new challenger has entered the battlefield! Tactical role playing battlefield, that is.

Tower of Time is a new release promising to bring something fresh to the table of classic combat RPGs. Sharing a name with one of my favorite sci-fi movies ever, Polish studio Event Horizon took some further steps to make sure those first impressions count. Devs say they’ve pumped up some extra polish (no pun intended) in graphics as well as including a plethora of special effects for battles. Every level has also been carefully handcrafted to emphasize the overall character of the story as it slowly unravels through the game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmtGxkxmSTM

Speaking of the story, Tower of Time is set in Artara, a world still recovering from a devastating catastrophe. We will learn more of it through the eyes of the four party players chosen from seven available classes. What’s interesting is that there will be no “correct” way to develop characters and their skills so if you feel like experimenting with their progress as much as possible, the (apocalyptic) world of Artara is your oyster.

Tactical combat in Tower of Time gives you a plenty of possibilities, but it also requires careful planning seeing how combat is in real time. However, to ease up things a bit you will be aided by a dynamic slow-time feature. It will prove useful in moments when you hastily need to reposition the characters to change the strategy in heat of the battle.

For $14.99/€14.99, Tower of Time includes four complete levels while the rest of the content (along with full release) will be finalized by the end of this year. As of now, the game offers approximately 13-15 hours of gameplay, excluding all the optional challenges and hidden secrets. Worth noting is that if you’re on the fence about picking it up, the game will have a higher price once it’s out of Early Access so pulling the trigger on the buy button might prove to be a better investment now.

If you’re interested in knowing more about the game and track the updates, make sure to follow the developers on their respective Facebook and Twitter pages.

New ROKH Story Trailer Outlines the Mission to Mars

Darewise Entertainment and Nvizzio Creations released a brand new trailer for their open world survival game ROKH that sets the background for colonizing Mars. The cinematic is presented in a gorgeous comic book style as a news anchor highlights the dire situation on Mars. After a nuclear explosion at the power plants wipes out the Mars colony, the ROKH space program is resurrected to shut down the nuclear plants and restart colonization on Mars. Earth has no choice as the planet is grossly overpopulated and desperate for new lands to settle. Four of Earth’s best and brightest have been selected for this important mission, each with a unique skill set needed for success.

Along with the video, a major update has been released for ROKH’s Steam Early Access build. The crafting system has been streamlined and rebalanced to use only one UI screen and to make crafting easier than before. More resources has also been added to the starting area to make the early game a little less challenging. As with any update, a mass of bugs have also been stomped out.

ROKH is available now on Steam Early Access for $19.99 USD.

War Thunder: Italian Air Force now available to all players

War Thunder: Italian Air Force now available to all players

Sixth major nation successfully concludes closed testing with further vehicle additions already in the pipeline

Friday, July 14th 2017 — Gaijin Entertainment today announced that War Thunder’s Italian Air Force has successfully concluded closed testing. Initially introduced with Update 1.69 Regia Aeronautica, all regular aircraft of the game’s sixth major nation can now be unlocked by all players, with the top jet fighters; Fiat G.91 and G.91R/1 being the last to finish their trials.

Warmly welcomed by the players of War Thunder, the new Italian aircraft are now a common sight in the skies above the War Thunder battlefields. To prepare them for release, all Italian aircraft went through a closed playtest on the live servers, after which they were progressively unlocked for all players to research. Both purchasers of one of the Italian Founder packs and active players of War Thunder could participate in the testing, giving the developers invaluable feedback in the process. Today, many virtual pilots have already mastered the unique and ingenious Italian designs, which now play a major role in any air combat they participate in.

Naturally, with the end of closed testing the development of the Italian Air Force in War Thunder is all but finished. New Italian content is already in development and will reach the players of War Thunder as soon as the next major update goes live. Further information will be published in time on the official Developer’s Blog here: http://warthunder.com/devblog

Clean Up Murder Scenes in Serial Cleaner From Curve Digital and iFun4all Today on PlayStation®4

Clean Up Murder Scenes in Serial Cleaner From Curve Digital and iFun4all Today on PlayStation®4

Stealth Action Game to Also Launch on Xbox One and Steam This Friday

[LONDON – July 11, 2017] Hide bodies and other incriminating evidence while avoiding police detection starting today in fast-paced stealth action game Serial Cleaner from indie publisher Curve Digital and developer iFun4All. Serial Cleaner launches today on PlayStation 4 for $14.99 with various launch offers available to PlayStation Plus members (see below).

Set in the 1970s, Serial Cleaner has players sneak around bloody crime scenes to clean up incriminating evidence by disposing of bodies, covering up bloodstains and hiding murder weapons all while avoiding the police. To succeed players must explore, experiment and make swift decisions in order to avoid police detection. Get caught and players earn a black mark on their protagonist’s career.

Serial Cleaner brings a funky, funny 70s vibe to the stealth action genre and fans are going to love the title’s challenging, fast-paced gameplay,” said Krzysztof Zięba, designer and writer at iFun4all. “The game takes many inspirations from pop culture and we can’t wait to see people’s reactions to our movie-inspired bonus levels, as well as our numerous Challenge Modes.”

In Serial Cleaner players can compete in a bevy of game modes such as Story Mode, which is a 20-level campaign to discover the Cleaner’s backstory and the crazy cast of characters in his life. Players can also test their skills in Challenge Modes that has them compete in a bevy of nail-bitingly hard modes such as Drunk Mode or play in Serial Cleaner’s bonus movie-inspired levels.

Players must also be wary of their environment as the game uses real-world data to modify levels accordingly with the current time of day in a player’s whereabouts. Noise detection and “sneakability” vary between night and day, and mean the difference between freedom and jail.

North American PlayStation Plus subscribers who purchase Serial Cleaner receive a 20% discount, while European Plus subscribers receive a 10% discount. If that was not enough Plus members in both regions can all grab a free Serial Cleaner dynamic theme to celebrate launch.

Serial Cleaner will also release on Xbox One and Steam (PC, Mac and Linux) this Friday. Xbox One users still have time to pre-order Serial Cleaner ahead of launch and earn a free copy of cyberpunk game The Swindle.

For more information on Serial Cleaner, please visit the game’s website, or Curve Digital’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
