Aksys Games Announces Quad Fighter K Retro 4-player co-op celebrates pure shooting action for the Nintendo Switch™

Torrance, Calif. – April 12, 2018 – Aksys Games is ecstatic to announce that Quad Fighter K, the local 4-player co-op retro shooter you never knew you needed until now, will be coming to the Nintendo eShop summer 2018 for the Nintendo Switch™!

“We are excited to have this fun, 4-player timeless arcade shooter in our library!” says Akibo Shieh, Founder and CEO.

In the far distant future, a mysterious alien race set its sights on nothing less than the conquest of the Earth and the total annihilation of the human race. To counteract this threat the nations of Earth formed the EDC (Earth Defense Corps) and launched an all-out counter attack. Despite humanity’s best efforts, the alien invaders superior technology proved too much to overcome and they took over most of the planet.

However, before all hope was lost the remnants of mankind came into possession of alien artifacts that would allow it to launch one last desperate assault.

At this point, the enemy forces were already at the doorstep of EDC headquarters, and Earth was bound to fall… With limited recourse left, they came up with the final plan; attack the enemy headquarters with all they have. With help from “Dr. AKEMI” the plan was to destroy the central core of the alien base.

With enemy forces at the gates of the last fortress of the EDC and the fate of the planet hanging in the balance, the leaders of Earth’s forces decide on a desperate course of action: throw everything they had left at the enemy’s headquarters. With the help of the erratically brilliant “Dr. AKEMI,” the goal is no less than the destruction of the very heart of the alien stronghold.

Features of Quad Fighter K include:

  • It’s Dangerous to Go Alone-The alien forces are an overwhelming force, but one you don’t have to face alone. Bring along three friends and face the alien hordes with local co-op play!
  • It’s not Retro, it’s Timeless-With 8-bit graphics and a focus on pure arcade shooting action, Quad Fighter K harkens back to the times when it was all about you (and perhaps a couple of friends), a quarter, and lightning-fast reflexes.
  • Quad Fighter Powers, ACTIVATE! -Do your best work solo, or unleash real damage by linking your ship with a teammate to crush your foes and save the planet. Unlock different attacks by connecting your ship with your allies.
  • Should I Stay or Should I Go?-Whether you’re gaming at home or on the run, thanks to the mighty morphing powers of the Nintendo Switch™, you can take out the alien hordes threatening our alternate Earth whenever, wherever.

Developed by Happy Meal Inc., Quad Fighter K is rated E for Everyone by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB). For more information, visit www.esrb.org.

Geronimo! Rogue Aces’ World War 2 Aerial Combat Out Today On Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation 4® and PS Vita® Launches With A 20% Early Adopter Reward Discount

London, United Kingdom – April 12th – Multi award-winning publisher Curve Digital and Infinite State Games are proud to announce that Rogue Aces, the 2D aerial combat, arcade rogue-lite is out today on Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation 4® and PS Vita®. Players must outflank, barrel-roll and dogfight their way through a series of vibrant 2D procedurally generated World War 2 scenarios in a bid to defeat enemy forces.

Players will face an array of challenges in over 100 frenetic scenarios. Missions include freeing prisoners of war, halting enemy parachuters and protecting ally buildings from enemy bombers. The game’s in-depth arcade scoring system encourages multiple playthroughs while Barons, the toughest propeller plane enemies in the game, are staunch in-air adversaries. Rogue Aces also features multiple game modes. In addition to its campaign, six other modes can be unlocked including Veteran Campaign, Bomber Defence and Rogue Ace Mode alongside PlayStation online leaderboards.

“We developed Rogue Aces within our custom-built engine to make sure the 2D aerial combat action is as sharp, responsive and fun as it possibly can be,” said Mike Daw, Creative Director at Infinite State Games. “We’ve tried to rediscover the essence of those early arcade gameplay experiences, giving it an irreverent, colourful lick of paint and personality in the process!”

“Charlie and Mike have done a fantastic job with Rogue Aces”, said Jason Perkins, Managing Director of Curve Digital. “The 2D action is crisp, absurd and even occasionally balletic and plays perfectly on a home or portable console.”

Rogue Aces asks players to turn the tide of the war as they battle for supremacy across the air, sea and ground over 100 increasingly challenging procedurally generated missions. Using one analogue stick to control the direction of the propeller plane while the other controls the throttle, combat is frantic but graceful, encouraging daring acrobatic manoeuvres. Each plane carries a finite amount of fuel to capture enemy bases and destroy enemy forces making strategic planning, replenishing and repairs a must across its colourful 1940s styled levels.

The first air combat game released on the Nintendo Switch™,  Rogue Aces is also available on PlayStation 4® and PS Vita® for £9.99/€12.99/$12.99.  Sony platforms are supported with fully functional Cross-Buy and Cross-Save to ensure home and portable play is a super-easy for players across the consoles. An Early Adopter Reward of 20% is also on offer for those that purchase the game on Nintendo Switch in Europe and North America. PlayStation Plus Members in North America and Europe can also take advantage of this offer.

April 12, 2018 – After eight weeks of intense Call of Duty®: WWII action, FaZe Clan earned the title of CWL Pro League Stage 1 champions after an action-packed competition this past weekend at the MLG Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The CWL Pro League Stage 1 Playoffs, presented by PlayStation®4, concluded with OpTic Gaming, Luminosity Gaming, and Team Kaliber rounding out the top four spots over the weekend.

For their win, CWL Pro League Stage 1 champions FaZe Clan earn the majority stake of the event’s $500,000 USD prize pool and become the early season favourite in the record-setting Call of Duty World League season featuring $4.2 million USD in total prizing. The team will also have their names hoisted on a banner at a future event in the G FUEL Hall of Champions, where championship teams throughout CWL history are celebrated for their achievements within the entrance of Call of Duty World League events.

Tommy “ZooMaa” Paparratto of FaZe Clan was unstoppable during Stage 1 of the CWL Pro League, recognised as the ASTRO Gaming CWL MVP. “It feels incredible to win. It’s been three years since FaZe won a championship and we knew we were good enough to do it. I want to cry right now, I’m so happy. I love my team,” said Paparratto after FaZe Clan’s championship victory.

A sold-out crowd at the MLG Arena in Columbus, Ohio, witnessed the action while fans from around the world watched FaZe Clan hoist the trophy live on MLG.com/CallofDuty and Twitch.tv/CallofDuty, as well as within the in-game Call of Duty®: WWII theatre.

Masters of Anima Review

Masters of Anima

Developer: Passtech Games
Publisher: Focus Home Interactive
Format: SwitchPlayStation 4Xbox OnePC (Reviewed)
Release Date: 10 Apr 2018
Price: $19.99USD – Available Here

Overview

I didn’t have the opportunity to play many games that mixed exploration, action and puzzle solving – all in one quality package. There was Overlord series and not much beside that when it comes to PC (at least nothing else worth mentioning). Nintendo crowd had a Pikmin series and ever since Masters of Anima peeked its head through promos and press releases, comparisons with Pikmin were often thrown around. More than enough to get me curious.

Story

In the world of Spark, passing the Shaper trials in order to become a Master of Anima is one of the biggest honors in the life of a Shaper. But there is more than that in the life of a Shaper apprentice Otto. You see, he is not allowed to marry Anna, a brilliant Supreme Shaper and a shaper of his love for her (what a clever wordsmith I am) until he passes the test. During the mandatory tutorial of the game, you guide Otto and get acquainted with the game mechanics as he passes the trial. But alas, this is where the story gets intense. On his way home from the trials, he finds Anna kidnapped by the evil Shaper Zahr, so it’s up to him to get her back, defeat Zahr and maybe even save the world while at it.

Gameplay

The initial tutorial does a fine job of covering pretty much everything you’ll encounter in the game. As a Shaper, you have the ability to gather Anima bits (found as little glowy orbs on the ground, in breakables or by defeating enemies) and transform them into sentient helpers. These helpers are known as guardians and you can command them to attack other enemies or push some large objects to clear the way for you.You gain experience by doing so and clearing optional quests which in the end gives you enough skill points. Those can be used to learn some new abilities for Otto as well as his guardians. Later on, you unlock more guardian classes besides the starting Protectors class (Sentinels, Keepers, Commanders and Summoners) and off you go!

Visuals

The art style is reminiscent of Torchlight and a bit of Overlord. It goes along rather well with the overall world design of the game and the gameplay. A bit on the cartoony side but just enough to not overstay its welcome and spill into the obnoxious. Visual effects while summoning and casting special skills are quite nice and never in the danger of overflowing the screen. A common issue in these games is that, once you really step into the game, the screen can get rather chaotic with all the visual effects and stats display from you & enemies. Masters of Anima avoids that by showing only what you need to see during fights and exploration segments.

Audio

For this portion, there isn’t much to say except that the audio is there only to kill the silence. You’re often accompanied with one-tone undefined vocal chants and orchestral notes. It goes well with making the exploration and puzzle bits a soothing experience but I can’t say the same for combat. Aside from simplistic soundtrack, when it comes to sound effects we have a different story. It is recommended to play it with a good pair of headphones for maximum immersion. The audio atmosphere of nature sounds, sound effects of various enemies and some damn good voice acting really raises it above the average.

Overall

If there is one way to describe Masters of Anima it would be that old “what you see is what you get”. Now that can be either a good or a bad thing depending on your expectations. Everything from the story is laid out pretty soon to you and there is not much room there for any twists and turns. However, the gameplay does expand a bit later in the game, introducing new types of guardians and enemies thus giving you more freedom in how to dispatch enemies and solve puzzles. If you’re going for a balanced experience of an action RPG with a pinch of exploration and puzzle solving – Masters of Anima does a damn fine job on that front.

Ys Origin Available Today on Xbox One

The Classic RPG Series Makes its Debut on the Xbox Platform with Exclusive Content

PARIS – April 11, 2018 – Ys Origin is now available on Xbox One, the all-in-one entertainment system, for $19.99, including new and exclusive content from developer and publisher Dotemu. Ys Origin details the earliest events of the Ys universe where players face hordes of deadly beasts and creative puzzles while ascending a dangerous tower with arcade-like, combo-driven action and platforming.

An exclusive new speedrun mode, available only for Xbox One players, will allow players to share their results on Xbox Live leaderboards to prove themselves as the fastest Ys Origin player in the world. An all-new ‘blood option’ also allows players to set the amount of gore seen in game – a feature entirely unique to the Xbox One version of Ys Origin.

In Ys Origin, it is 700 years before the events of Ys I & II, set during a time where the land of Ys was on the brink of destruction. Demons came in droves and forced the twin Goddesses who ruled the land to whisk their subjects away into the safe embrace of the clouds. The demons persisted, however, advancing their pursuit by constructing a massive tower reaching toward the heavens. The battle which raged upon the ground had begun ascending for a second round above.

Ys Origin’s fast-paced action and epic boss battles present fans with all-new gameplay mechanics and a twist in the storytelling – for the first time, Adol Christin is not the protagonist. Players will select one of three characters: Yunica Tovah, Hugo Fact or The Claw and master each character’s unique skill set while experiencing their distinct stories.

Although the fantasy adventure game can be played through to the end in solo mode, it is first and foremost a co-op platform game for 2. Mutual assistance and coordination are essential for moving the dead king’s coffin, overcoming the obstacles in your path and moving onward!

Super Chariot will be released in both physical version and on Nintendo eShop on May 10th, 2018. The physical version – called the Super Chariot Edition – includes the game, the Royal Gadget Pack DLC and the original downloadable soundtrack. The game is rated PEGI 3.

Super Chariot is the first Nintendo Switch™ game to support the wireless Philips Hue lighting system that lets you bring your gaming sessions to life. Change the ambiance throughout the adventure!
