Game Development Agency Amber Strengthens Leadership Team

Jaime Gine appointed CEO, former CEO Mihai Pohontu takes on the Executive Chairman role, Brian Waddle joins as Head of Biz Dev

Bucharest, Romania – August 3rd, 2020 – Full-service games development agency Amber announced today that Jaime Gine will join the company as CEO, overseeing the company’s operations across all functional areas. Mihai Pohontu, the former CEO, will take on the role of Executive Chairman, leading the Board of Directors and strategic initiatives in the areas of innovation, community and growth.
 
Prior to joining Amber, Jaime Gine was the former Chief Customer Officer at Keywords Studios and a 15-years veteran of Electronic Arts where he served as VP of International Development Services. Gine also served as the General Manager of intelligent language and content company SDL. During his five years as CCO with Keywords, the company’s market capitalization increased from around $100M to over $2.5B.
 
Amber is also welcoming a new Head of Business Development with Brian Waddle. Waddle has been a senior global sales & marketing executive in the games industry for 16 years, having successfully led these functional roles at companies such as Virtuos and Havok. He is also a Board member at Telltale Games, with a strong background in mergers and acquisitions.

From tomorrow until August 25, discover the new Nest Destruction game mode, inspired by Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA — August 3, 2021 — Today, Ubisoft® announced a new time-limited PvP event for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Containment. The event starts tomorrow, August 4, and will run for three weeks until August 25. Inspired by the upcoming game Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction, Containment sets the players in a reworked version of the Consulate map overruled by the Chimera Parasite in a new game mode called Nest Destruction. Rainbow Six Siege will also be free from August 14 to August 16, where players can earn twice as many bonus Battle Pass points.

This event offers a look into the world of Extraction in Rainbow Six Siege, with a team of REACT agents (attackers) intervening to destroy Nests that are being defended by a team of Proteans, a deadly Archæan variant that can adopt the form of REACT operators (defenders) and mimic their behaviour with maximum speed and melee attacks. Defenders will be provided with additional Health, Aruni’s Punch, and Oryx’s special abilities, but will be weaponless for the whole game. Attackers will have a standard loadout without modifiers and only have access to a reduced Operator selection. 

Containment will introduce a new game mode, Nest Destruction, that will have players fight over a Nest. Attackers will be given a two-tiered objective: destroy the nest to open the final objective and win the round. On the other side, Defenders will have to rely on melee attacks and Oryx’s Ramah Dash to stop their opponents and claim victory. Of course, there is always a last solution to secure the win: get rid of the opposing team entirely.

The Containment event comes with its own collection of 33 unique items for Rainbow Six Siege operators including IQ, Ace, Blackbeard, Amaru and Zero on the attacking side, and Aruni, Jager, Kaid, Mira and Warden on the defending team. The collection includes headgear, uniforms, and weapon skins. Each operator’s exclusive, time-limited customisation items are available for purchase as Bundles in the Shop section for 1680 R6 credits or via the Containment Packs for 300 R6 Credits or 12500 Renown.

Netmarble Adds New Gaming Genre to Its Global Catalog with $2.19 Billion Acquisition of the Worlds Third-Largest Mobile Social Casino Game Company

LOS ANGELES August. 2, 2021 Global mobile game publisher Netmarble Corp. today announced that it has entered into a share purchase agreement for the acquisition of SpinX Games, one of the fastest-growing companies in the mobile Social Casino game industry. Under the agreement, Netmarble will acquire 100% of shares of SpinX Games at $2.19 billion (appx. ₩2.5 trillion), to continue its global expansion by adding a new genre of games to the current extensive roster.

Established in 2014, SpinX Games is a Social Casino game company with multiple hit titles in the category including Cash frenzy™, Lotsa Slots™ and Jackpot World. In the second quarter of 2021, the company ranked third in global sales in the mobile Social Casino genre.

In a recent study conducted in partnership with Real Industry – an educational non-profit transforming how students interact with industry – Turtle Beach put over 100 US-based college student gamers to the test playing a variety of popular games, including Call of Duty, Apex Legends, and Fortnite, to see what effect using Superhuman Hearing had on their gameplay performance. In May 2021, Turtle Beach and Real Industry conducted a virtual event called the Turtle Beach Superhuman Hearing Challenge. More than 100 collegiate gamers from around the U.S.A. were selected from over 400 applicants, and the study participants were invited to test and determine the impact of the Company’s Superhuman Hearing audio technology on gameplay performance. Students in the study indicated they played games including APEX Legends, Fortnite, and Call of Duty: Cold War on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. The students played games for an hour without Superhuman Hearing and documented their stats. Then the students repeated the process with Turtle Beach’s Superhuman Hearing feature turned on. Slightly over half of the participants played their game of choice on the Xbox, whereas 45% played the PlayStation.

In testing the impact of Superhuman Hearing, we sought to determine whether Turtle Beach’s technology gave gamers an advantage in first-person action games, as evidenced by the number of opponents they were able to defeat and the length of gameplay,” said Humera Fasihuddin, Chief Designer, Real Industry. “The results show that with Superhuman Hearing turned off, most of the students had a Kill/Death Ratio (KDR) of 1.9 or less. In contrast, with Superhuman Hearing turned on, the number of players with a 4.0 K/D ratio or higher more than doubled. KDR is a common metric used in first-person action and Battle Royale games that measure a player’s effectiveness of defeating enemy players.”

Ms. Fasihuddin added, “Turtle Beach was fantastic to work with, and after the event, the students had the opportunity to speak with key Turtle Beach team members who addressed questions about the gaming industry and accessories business and offered insights into the various areas the gaming industry has to offer career-wise. Overall, it was a highly informative, impactful, and fun experience for all the students involved, and an activity that got everyone excited about potential future career options.

In the Turtle Beach Superhuman Hearing Challenge, 78 different colleges were represented, from small private schools to large public schools and everything in between. Participants hailed from 32 different states, with half of the students enrolled in Arts and Humanities programs and the other half enrolled in STEM majors.
