Castle Morihisa Brings Tactical Roguelike Deckbuilding to Steam, Switch on 10 Feb.

Castle Morihisa Brings Tactical Roguelike Deckbuilding to Steam, Switch on 10 Feb.

BEIJING – 20 Jan. 2021 – Castle Morihisa, the tactical roguelike deck builder set in a dark fantasy feudal Japan from developer Smokingbear Studio and publisher Thermite Games, arrives on Windows PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch on Thursday, 10 Feb. 2022.

Trek towards the ominous Castle Morihisa as one of four classes to investigate the mysterious unease spreading across the region. Balance the Monk’s Meditation and Mantra systems to stun foes and channel armor-boosting karma. Slice through enemies as the Samurai, a fearsome warrior whose Sakura and Retaliation abilities deal massive damage. Call upon spirits as the Onmyoji, a blood magic wielder. Or stalk prey from the shadows as a Ninja, launching Kunai, Shuriken, and Mantra Signs at unsuspecting monsters.

Balance each hero’s abilities with expansive decks comprised of over 300 cards. Create powerful combos during battles against foes inspired by Japanese folklore. Progress across an overworld map rife with enemy encounters, branching paths, and merchants peddling rare wares and new cards. Outplay twisted zombies, living trees, and other monstrous creatures that require calculated strategies and well-produced card decks.

Net hard-earned coined by overcoming challenging showdowns and spend the winnings on upgrades, cards, and class-specific skill tree upgrades full of powerful passives that enhance future battles. Commune with legendary following warriors to harness their spirits in the form of powerful but limited multi-use abilities which can turn the tide of combat at a moment’s notice.

Strive to reach the Castle, but do not fear failure, because each new run features randomly generated encounters to encourage replayability and experimentation. Face off against minibosses, random encounters, and the deadly foes lurking behind the Castle’s walls that constantly test each character’s deckbuilding mastery in a roguelike package.

Castle Morihisa’s hundreds of cards, unique character-specific abilities, and folklore-inspired world combine for a delightfully challenged and utterly rewarding experience,” said Zhenghang Cai, Game Producer, Smokingbear Studios. “By blending both deckbuilding systems and roguelike design elements, we believe players will be eagerly awaiting their chance to march toward Castle Morihisa on Nintendo Switch and PC on February 10!”

Castle Morihisa launches on Windows PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch on Thursday, 10 February 2022 for $14.99/€12.49 with a 10% launch discount, and English, Japanese, French, German, Russian, Spanish, and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional)- language support. A free demo is available to download on Steam.

Apogee Entertainment Publishing Rise of the Triad Remastered on PC, Consoles in 2022

3D Realms Passes Publishing Rights to Apogee Entertainment, Inc.

AALBORG, Denmark — January 20, 2022 — Rise of the Triad Remastered, a rebuilt version of the 1995 classic announced at 3D Realms’ Realms Deep 2020 digital event, will now be published by Apogee Entertainment, Inc. when it releases later this year on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

The original Rise of the Triad helped iterate on first-person shooters in ways still felt to this day. Then known as Apogee Software, the ambitious developers exhibited a wild willingness to experiment. With five distinct playable characters, complex maps embracing verticality, and an arsenal of bullet, missile, and magical weapons, shooter fans had a chaotic chemistry set at their disposal.

Apogee Software revisited Rise of the Triad in 2013, creating a remake alongside developer Slipgate Ironworks (formerly known as Interceptor Entertainment). Rise of the Triad 2013 modernized the adventure in Unreal Engine 3 but stayed true to the original’s spirit with fast movement, non-linear level design with tons of secrets, and multiple playable characters.

Digital preservation of classic games grows more important by the day. As such, 3D Realms and Apogee Entertainment originally planned to co-publish a remaster of the 1995 version. Over the past year, both parties agreed that since Apogee had published the 2013 remake, it made the most sense to pass the torch back to Apogee.

Fans of the franchise can rest assured that the continued development of the project is in good hands. The core of the action-packed shooter shall remain intact while introducing modern features like wide-screen, mouselook, revamped multiplayer and more later this year on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

“While there’s a special place in our heart for Rise of the Triad, we know it’s in good hands with our friends at Apogee Entertainment,” said Frederik Schreiber, CEO at 3D Realms. “While we never mind having to drag out a CRT monitor to play old favorites, we hope this release helps new players experience this classic.”

About Apogee Entertainment, Inc.

Apogee Software’s pioneering journey began in 1987, when Scott Miller decided to split his new game, Kingdom of Kroz, into three episodes, with the first episode available as free shareware. The “Apogee model” of distribution revolutionized PC gaming at the time and catapulted Apogee Software to global renown. As an indie publisher, Apogee (and it’s later incarnation, 3D Realms) would introduce the world to id Software, Remedy Entertainment, Parallax Software, and other video game superstars in the making. As a developer, Apogee would innovate and inspire in equal measure, creating treasured characters and franchises like Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior, and Prey en route to earning over a billion dollars in commercial revenue.

The new Apogee Entertainment, with founder Scott Miller and longtime partner Terry Nagy at the helm, will empower today’s incredibly talented indie developers, paving the way for their global success with innovative ideas, cutting-edge marketing, and the same fearlessness that changed the industry.

ABOUT GRIMES
Claire Boucher is the producer of the alter ego Grimes, an award winning music video director as well as a music writer, artist, producer, engineer, singer-songwriter.  The world got its first glimpse of this vision on her 2010 full-length debut, “Geidi Primes,” which drew its inspiration from the David Lynch adaptation of Frank Herbert’s “Dune.” Her sophomore outing, “Halfaxa,” followed the same year. Over the course of three weeks, 2012’s “Visions” came to life in her apartment and would be recorded solely on Garage Band. 2015 marked a commercial breakthrough on “Art Angels.” It appeared in the Top 5 of year-end lists by Pitchfork, Billboard, Consequence of Sound, The New York Times and Rolling Stone, in addition to being named Album of the Year by Stereogum, NME and Exclaim! In 2018, she made another conscious evolution, turning back to formative influences, such as Tool and Nine Inch Nails for inspiration — a style first hinted at on 2016’s “Suicide Squad” soundtrack contribution, “Medieval Warfare.” In 2020 she released “Miss Anthropocene,” a concept album about an anthropomorphic goddess of climate change, which received rave reviews.  The album title stems from the words Misanthrope, “a person who dislikes humankind and avoids human society” and Anthropocene, “the current geological age, viewed as the period during which human activity has been the dominant influence on climate and the environment.”  In 2021 she set the NFT world on fire with the release of WarNymph Collection Vol 1 By Grimes x Mac. The collection contains 10 artworks, including a unique video work set to original music composed specifically for the project. Additionally Grimes appeared as a judge on Fox’s virtual avatar competition show, “Alter Ego.” Through the character of WarNymph and her decentralized AI girl group NPC, Grimes explores the fluidity of identity in the virtual age: the ability to create, augment and splinter ourselves into unlimited avatars.

Tribeca Games Award-winning NORCO Launches March 24 on PC

Tribeca Games Award-winning NORCO Launches March 24 on PC

Play the first full act of the game today and check out an electrifying trailer featuring an exclusive song by metal band Thou!

STOCKHOLM Jan. 20, 2022 – Raw Fury and game dev collaborative Geography of Robots are thrilled to announce the genre-bending NORCO will launch on March 24 for Windows PC. Get your feet wet with the full first act of this unique Southern Gothic point-and-click narrative adventure game, available for free today as NORCO Act One on Steam and GOG.com. Players’ progress will carry over to the full version of NORCO when it releases in March.

NORCO takes place in a gritty, distorted version of South Louisiana. While searching for your missing brother in the aftermath of your mother’s death, you’ll team up with a fugitive robot and explore the sinking suburbs, run-down strip malls, drainage ditches, and verdant industrial swamps of Louisiana’s petrochemical hinterlands.

Geography of Robots blends true stories and personal history with inspirations from Southern Gothic literature and pulp fiction to create a uniquely dark and captivating game experience. NORCO‘s stunning pixel art depicts real locations, reimagined with a believable twist.

To contribute to this mind-bending experience, the doom/sludge metal band Thou has teamed up with Geography of Robots’ composer Gewgawly I and sound designer fmAura to remix a track exclusively for the game.

“Our involvement with NORCO stemmed from a deep and longtime friendship with Geography of Robots,” said Bryan Funck, lead singer of Thou. “We’ve always loved their sense of aesthetics and thought it would be a great fit for a video of some kind for one of our songs. This is our first time being involved with a video game on any level aside from playing them.”

You can hear a portion of that remix in today’s trailer. In addition, the band will collaborate on the game’s soundtrack and other unannounced related projects.

“Thou represents an aspect of Louisiana that’s close to my heart. The members know the suburbs of New Orleans and Baton Rouge well. They capture a kind of strange irreverence in their sound and visuals that’s specific to the region and has influenced the game NORCO,” said Yuts from Geography of Robots. ”We’ve been trying to collaborate for a while, and I’m just stoked it’s finally happening!”

NORCO Act One is part of the Big Adventure Event (Jan. 20 – 24) on Steam.

About Geography of Robots

Geography of Robots is a game dev collab that explores the hidden geographies, conspiracies, folklore, and environmental histories of the American South in a collection of games, interactive fiction, and other experiments.

Atari Bringing Classic Flight Simulator Game Collection to Steam, Includes Sid Meier Bundle

Atari Bringing Classic Flight Simulator Game Collection to Steam, Includes Sid Meier Bundle

Prepare for Landing — Atari Brings Back the Best of Classic Flight Simulators with Solo Flight, F-15 Strike Eagle, Harrier Jump Jet, Dog Fight: 80 Years of Aerial Warfare, and The Ancient Art of War in the Skies

New York, NY (January 20, 2022)Atari®, one of the world’s most iconic consumer brands and interactive entertainment producers, today announced the release of five classic flight simulation games on Steam. The collection includes two titles from revered game designer Sid Meier — Solo Flight and F-15 Strike Eagle, along with three other popular titles from the golden age of gaming: Harrier Jump Jet, Dog Fight: 80 Years of Aerial Warfare, and The Ancient Art of War in the Skies. The games will be available individually and in special bundles for Windows PC via Steam.

In 1983, the legendary Sid Meier created Solo Flight, the first realistic and deeply immersive flight simulator sporting a design that fundamentally changed how flight simulators to follow would test players’ piloting skills. The game features no autopilot or computer-aided navigation system; players must learn the dial-based instrumentation and VOR navigation to guide their plane to its destination. Solo Flight includes mission-based gameplay where players carefully navigate the skies while managing fuel and cargo loads, as well as proving the aptitude to land their aircraft safely.

In Meier’s F-15 Strike Eagle, players choose their desired mission and then find themselves inside of the sophisticated cockpit of an F-15 fighter jet, fully armed for combat and heading into enemy airspace. Named “Action Game of the Year” by Computer Gaming World in 1985, the game is based on real-life missions carried out by fighter pilots in the 1970s and ‘80s. Meier collaborated with Air Force Pilot Bill Stealy to ensure F-15 Strike Eagle’s accuracy, which includes missions in Libya, Egypt, Iran, and more.

Also included in the collection are Harrier Jump Jet, Dogfight: 80 Years of Aerial Warfare, and The Ancient Art of War in the Skies, well-regarded flight simulation games that helped to establish the genre and shape the future of flight simulation video games. Harrier Jump Jet, originally launched in 1992, portrays the R.A.F GR7 and US Marine Corps AV-8B Harriers and features twenty high-action missions across two campaigns. Dogfight: 80 Years of Aerial Warfare, released in 1993, offers a “pure” air combat simulation experience that focuses on aerial combat and technique. It includes a handful of engaging game modes, including a unique “What If” gameplay option that allows players to match fighters from different eras in combat. The Ancient Art of War in the Skies was a unique pick in the genre, marrying map-based tactical war simulation with arcade-style aerial combat. The Ancient Art of War in the Skies delivers hours of compelling playtime with dozens of scenarios and missions.

The MicroProse™ flight simulation titles, re-released by Atari, will be available on Steam individually for $6.99 each. Strike Eagle and Ancient Art of War launch today with Solo Flight, Harrier Jump Jet, and Dogfight: 80 Years of Aerial Warfare scheduled for release next week. Bundles are available, including a special Sid Meier collection, with limited-time discounts. Customers can purchase these bundles immediately, adding the new releases as they become available via Steam’s “Complete The Set” offer. Details for each are available below:

Flight Combat Collection — $20.97 (25% off)

  • Strike Eagle, Harrier Jump Jet, Ancient Art of War, and Dogfight: 80 Years of Aerial Warfare

Sid Meier Collection — $26.21 (25% off)

  • Conflict in Vietnam, Crusade in Europe and Decision in the Desert, Solo Flight, and Strike Eagle

MicroProse War Simulation Collection — $39.14 (30% off)

Angry Birds Journey Now Available Worldwide!

Rovio’s first new slingshot game in seven years is playable now on app stores everywhere

ESPOO, Finland Jan. 20, 2022 – After a successful soft launch in select regions, Angry Birds Journey is now available on iOS and Android devices everywhere! During the birds’ twelve-year timeline, the franchise has seen the Angry Birds characters expand into various game genres, but Angry Birds Journey puts the birds back in their famous slingshot for a puzzle game with the slingshot at its heart.

Reworked and streamlined, Angry Birds Journey is undoubtedly a modern Angry Birds experience, a perfect casual puzzle game to pick up and play any time. Accessible and fun, the game holds a juicy story and rich game world for players to explore. True to its name, Angry Birds Journey takes the birds on an adventure to the far reaches of their world in search of mysterious egg-shaped artifacts known as the Egg Wonders. The flock must discover and activate these powerful items before the piggies get to them.

All the Angry Birds games have delightful destruction at their core, but the slingshot is a fan favorite. CEO Alex Pelletier-Normand said, “The love for the original slingshot gameplay is still strong after 12 years. Today, with the global launch of Angry Birds Journey, we’re happy to present to players an all-new Angry Birds experience that puts the slingshot at center stage. Although much different from the classic games in its updated and streamlined gameplay, Angry Birds Journey is filled with the same satisfying gameplay and the same iconic characters that have defined the Angry Birds games over the years. We believe Angry Birds Journey has something to love for long-time Angry Birds fans, but is also more accessible and thus a great entry point for those who have never experienced the classic slingshot games.”

There is a big year ahead for the Angry Birds. Their first long-form animated series, Angry Birds: Summer Madness, lands on Netflix later this month, and a remake of the original Angry Birds game is in the works. In addition, fans can expect brand partnerships and plenty of events and updates to their favorite games.

Angry Birds Journey is available on the App Store and Google Play. As a special bonus to early birds, players who join in the first week will receive a bundle of in-game goodies to help them get started on the journey.

DENVER, COLORADO (January 20, 2022) – Ziggurat Interactive, publisher of multiplatform retro and modern games, announces today Deadly Dozen Reloaded, a reimagining of the squad-based stealth game originally developed and released by N-Fusion Interactive in 2001. The game is set to release on PC, consoles, and Nintendo Switch in spring 2022, and will feature modern updates — including a visual overhaul and enhanced squad controls.

In World War II, the United States Army was ordered by General Dwight D. Eisenhower to recruit a special operations unit who would be capable of carrying out dangerous missions in secret — any time, and in any environment. Twelve uniquely skilled men were recruited, each one possessing the physical prowess and a distaste for authority well-suited for such an unconventional unit. They became known as the Deadly Dozen.

Choose your squad of four from a roster of twelve playable characters, each with unique stats, weapon, and equipment proficiencies to complete critical objectives behind enemy lines. Players can match their squad to their preferred playstyle, whether that means they want to go full stealth, focus on run-and-gun action, or make some noise with loud, devastating explosions. Players command their unit with the Squad Wheel, which they can use to call out movement orders, fire orders, stance, and formation changes to adapt to challenges in the field. Additionally, direct control is never limited to just one of the four squad members, as players can swap their playable character at any time.

“The Deadly Dozen games are unique military shooters that reward careful planning and clever tactics as much as they do pure shooting skills,” said Michael Devine, SVP of Business Development at Ziggurat Interactive. “Since the release of the original game in 2001, tactical shooters exploded in popularity, and we’re delighted to introduce fans to this refreshed and enhanced version of one of the originators of the genre.”

While the structure of Deadly Dozen Reloaded remains the same as the original release, level assets, textures and character models have been rebuilt from the ground up. Real-time lighting, high-quality particle effects, and other environmental effects have been added to bring a sense of realism into the game. The PC version will support up to 4K resolution with no framerate limit, while consoles will run at 1080p and 30fps. Audio has been enhanced to include much higher fidelity samples, real-time audio effects such as reverb and occlusion, 3D surround sound, and support for 5.1 or more speaker configurations.

Key features of Deadly Dozen Reloaded include:

  • Reimagined for the Modern Era: Graphics and audio aren’t the only things that have been updated. Enemy AI is now more sophisticated, making fights more engaging, and reworked vehicle physics make driving to objectives more fun and realistic.

  • 10 Giant Missions: Large, faithfully recreated maps containing objectives that can be tackled in any order at the player’s discretion. Each mission will typically take over one hour to complete on normal difficulty.

  • Customizable Loadouts: Eleven different weapons — six American and five German — and seven types of equipment, including first aid kits, binoculars, and a variety of explosives, allow players to customize squad members to suit their play style and the mission at hand

  • No More Permadeath: Players can experience heart-pounding escapes with half of their team, and fallen squad-mates will recuperate for the next mission. No more reloading save files!

Deadly Dozen Reloaded will be available for PC and consoles in spring 2022.
