The first season of Siege’s Year 8, Operation Commanding Force brings a Brazilian Operator

Sydney, Australia — February 20, 2023 — Today, Ubisoftrevealed the first season of Rainbow Six Siege’s Year 8, Operation Commanding Force. This season introduces Brava, a new Brazilian Operator, and important gameplay updates including an immersive reload update, the Mousetrap feature to address players using mouse and keyboard on consoles, and further anti-toxicity measures.

Commanding Force unleashes Brava, an invaluable new Attacker equipped with the Kludge Drone gadget. This drone disrupts hostile surveillance and provides counter tactics, like repurposing the technology for her squad. An extremely adaptable Operator, Brava can gain an advantage in any environment by accessing electronic resources available to her. Brava is a three speed, one health Operator, and her loadout features a PARA-308 or a CAMRS as a primary weapon and a USP40 or a Super Shorty as a secondary weapon.

Important gameplay updates such as Mousetrap arrive in Year 8 Season 1 that further player protection improvements. Players who use mouse and keyboard on consoles will activate a penalty that adds lag to their inputs. The goal of this penalty is to encourage fair gameplay by removing the unfair advantage that mouse and keyboard players have on consoles. While active, continued use of mouse and keyboard gradually increases the lag over several matches, making it harder to aim and shoot. Completing matches with a controller will gradually reduce the lag back to normal.

Further anti-toxicity measures include a new Reputation Penalty for abusive voice chat. While active, this penalty mutes repeat offenders by default to prevent hateful and disruptive content in voice chat. Muted players can still use voice chat but will only be heard by players who unmute them.

In Year 8, Rainbow Six Siege is focused on solidifying its position as a high-intensity tactical shooter where purposeful action, precision, and creative tactics are the keys to success. In Commanding Force brings a balancing update to Zero, improvements to the Play Section UI, balancing change on weapon attachments, and a new immersive reload system: interrupting the animation will leave the player without a magazine, but closed bolt weapons will have a single round for the player to use at any point during the reload.

Also, new onboarding features arrive this season to assist new players in learning Rainbow Six Siege: Beginner Challenges and Specialty Challenges. Beginner Challenges identify an Operator’s playstyle in-game. All Operators have one to two specialties which can be checked during the Planning Phase, in the Operators section, and in Operator Guides. Specialty Challenges aim to help beginner players learn the various Operator specialties and what they contribute to a match. By completing challenges, players can earn a variety of rewards, including an Operator after finishing all challenges for a single specialty. If the Operator is already owned, players will earn their value in renown instead. All players can be complete the challenges and earn all rewards, not just beginners.

Season 1’s Battle Pass introduces the Bravo Pack Ticket, a rare item that lets you pick an exclusive reward from the latest Bravo Collection. This ticket will be awarded to Premium players who reach level 100 in this season’s Battle Pass as a reward for their dedication.

Rainbow Six Siege is now available to play on PlayStation^®4, PlayStation^®5, the Xbox One family of consoles, Xbox Series X | S, Windows PC, including on Ubisoft+, Ubisoft’s subscription service*, and Amazon Luna.

Heather Hazen named Studio Head; Next mainline game in the world-famous Sid Meier’s Civilization franchise in development

Sydney, Australia – February 20, 2023 – 2K has announced that industry veteran and Firaxis Games Chief Operating Officer, Heather Hazen, has been promoted to Studio Head, ushering in a new era of development at the legendary interactive entertainment studio behind Sid Meier’s Civilization, XCOM, and the recently-released and critically-acclaimed Marvel’s Midnight Suns.

As Studio Head, Hazen will manage Firaxis Games’ development teams and lead its mission to build the best strategy games on the planet.  With 22 years of experience in gaming and entertainment, Hazen joined Firaxis Games in 2020 as the studio’s Chief Operating Officer.  Prior to Firaxis Games, she was an Executive Producer on Fortnite at Epic Games, as well as Plants vs. Zombies and Bejeweled while at PopCap Games.  Hazen’s promotion comes as longtime Firaxis Studio Head, Steve Martin, will be leaving the studio after more than 25 years with the organization.

Sydney, Australia – February 17th, 2023 — The Settlers^®: New Allies, the newest installment of the legendary build-up real-time strategy game series, will launch on Windows PC today, February 17^th, 2023*. The game will be available through the Epic Games Store and the Ubisoft Store. Players will also be able to access the game through a Ubisoft+ subscription at launch.

Developed by Ubisoft Düsseldorf, The Settlers^®: New Allies is a modern take on the long-established The Settlers’ franchise, combining elaborate infrastructure and economic gameplay with tactical real-time battles. Starting with a small group of Settlers, players must explore their surroundings, build up their settlements and optimize resource production to recruit new settlers and an army able to protect their land. Researching economic and military upgrades is critical to create a strong army and overcome rivals.

The game features three main game modes:

Civilization VI: Leader Pass – Rulers of The Sahara Pack Now Available!

The next DLC pack for Civilization VI: Leader Pass – Rulers of the Sahara – is now available! Revisit the cradle of humanity with Rulers of the Sahara Pack*, which includes Ramses (Egypt), Ptolemaic Cleopatra (Egypt) and King Sundiata Keita (Mali). Ramses (Egypt)

After assuming the throne in his mid 20s, Ramses went on to become one of the greatest and most powerful pharaohs of the Egyptian Empire. He’s remembered not only for his military campaigns, but also for ambitious building projects like the temples at Abu Simbel and Ramsseum. In-game, this translates to a desire to improve as many tiles as possible, as well as a dislike of Civilizations that fail to improve their tiles or that found National Parks.

New Ability: Abu Simbel

• Gain Culture equal to 15% of the construction cost when finishing Buildings and 30% when completing Wonders.

Ptolemaic Cleopatra (Egypt)

In the early days of Cleopatra’s reign, even before the conflict with her brother Ptolemy XIII, she had to deal with a number of pressing issues including debts to the Roman Republic and a drought-induced famine. Concerned that her subjects in Alexandria wouldn’t have enough to eat and that this could lead to unrest, Cleopatra opened granaries to the public and decreed that crops could no longer be traded away from the capital. Since Egypt was a significant source of food for Rome even during these challenging times, Cleopatra likes Civilizations with high food output and dislikes those with low food output. 

New Ability: Arrival of Hapi

• Resources along floodplains receive +1 food and +1 culture.
• +1 appeal on floodplains instead of standard -1.

King Sundiata Keita (Mali)**

Known as the Lion of Mali, Sundiata Keita grew up being unable to walk; when his father died, he and his mother were exiled to the kingdom of Mema. After proving himself able to hunt and fight there, he returned home to Mali to defeat the sorcerer-king Soumaoro Kante, inspiring generations of poets to tell his story in the historical epic Sunjata. Sundiata’s Lion of Mali agenda causes him to dislike Civilizations who compete for Tourism.

New Ability: Sogolon

• It costs 20% less gold to Recruit Great People and the Market gains 2 Great Writing slots.
• Great Works of Writing receive +4 Gold and +2 Production.
