Prepare your village by day and battle the forces of darkness by night in Mimyr Games’ new gothic roguelite.
November 5, 2026. Indie developer Mimyr Games has announced The Vow: Vampire’s Curse, a dark gothic roguelite that blends tactical, grid-based combat with strategic card-based gameplay, village management and a story of love, death and resurrection. Alongside the announcement, an extensively refreshed demo is available now on Steam, featuring a reworked introduction, new daytime card-based gameplay, an improved tutorial, and further enhancements to combat and progression.
Players take on the role of Sir Richard, a righteous knight whose wedding to his beloved Eleanor is brutally interrupted by the vampire lord Arnaud. When Richard is killed trying to protect her, he is mysteriously brought back to life, changed in ways he does not yet understand. Driven by his determination to reach Arnaud’s castle and rescue Eleanor, Sir Richard sets out on a dangerous journey. Yet the path ahead is far from straightforward, and death is only the beginning.

PREPARE BY DAY. SURVIVE BY NIGHT.
Sir Richard’s journey unfolds across a repeating seven-day cycle, with each day bringing new opportunities to prepare for the dangers ahead. During daylight, players develop and upgrade villages, unlock new effects, place defensive obstacles and assign villagers and allies to help withstand the coming attacks.
When night falls, the game shifts into tactical, card-driven combat as waves of vampires and their thralls descend on the village. Here, positioning is everything. Push enemies into hazards, pull them towards traps, block their paths with fences or crash them into obstacles and each other. Summoned objects and allies add further options, giving players plenty of ways to control the battlefield without always relying on direct damage.
Strategy begins before the fighting even starts. Players build their deck by selecting three themed card sets, shaping their approach around defensive tactics, aggression, movement or battlefield control. Playing cards of the same colour consecutively can also trigger additional combo benefits, rewarding careful planning while leaving players free to adapt their next move.
A REFRESHED DEMO, WITH MORE TO DISCOVER
The updated demo has been reworked to offer a smoother introduction to The Vow: Vampire’s Curse, bringing more of the game’s story and strategic systems into the opening experience.
Players can experience the first five days of Sir Richard’s journey, travelling between villages where each must be prepared and defended against nightly attacks. During the day, players choose which abilities to activate across four buildings in each village, before facing waves of enemies after nightfall. Armed with a hand of combat cards, they’ll need to make smart tactical decisions to protect the village, with card combinations and upgrades unlocking additional abilities. The demo also features two major boss encounters, Godfrey and Arnaud, offering a taste of the challenges that lie ahead in the full seven-day adventure.
The refreshed demo also introduces a number of improvements and additions, including:
- A Reworked Introduction: A new animated intro has been added to better introduce Sir Richard’s story and the events behind his curse.
- Card-Based Daytime Gameplay: The daytime experience has been reworked to incorporate a card-based system, expanding the strategic choices available to players.
- Improved Tutorial: A revised tutorial makes it easier to understand the game’s mechanics and get to grips with its different systems.
- Reworked Card Upgrades: The card upgrade system has been redesigned, and new cards have been introduced to improve progression and deck customisation
- Enhanced Boss Encounters: Existing bosses have received further gameplay improvements and additional animations to make encounters more engaging
Each run is part of a larger journey. Death sends Sir Richard back to the church, but story progress, knowledge and unlocked cards carry over, allowing players to discover more of the narrative and develop their strategies with every attempt. Along the way, artefacts can provide powerful advantages, while dangerous omens introduce new curses and challenges that can change the course of a run.
With its blend of tactical combat, strategic deckbuilding, village preparation and a dark gothic story, The Vow: Vampire’s Curse challenges players to find a way through the night, uncover the truth behind Richard’s resurrection and reach the castle waiting at the top of the mountain.
The refreshed demo for The Vow: Vampire’s Curse is available now on Steam.
