Air Hares Lands on Nintendo Switch October 29 With an Expanded Squadron

[October 22, 2026] The carrot fields of Winrose Warren needed more pilots, and on October 29 they get them on Nintendo Switch! Air Hares, the farming bullet hell from husband-and-wife studio Wondoro, lands on Nintendo Switch with the full Hare Force Edition update included, bringing the squadron to five playable pilots for couch co-op.

Bullet hells traditionally measure success by what gets shot down. Air Hares measures it by what grows. Captain Rabbo Sunskipper flies over dust-choked farmland with a plane full of seeds and water, and each level asks players to fill three carrot fields while falcon goons from the Gale Gang dive at them through wind, rain, and lightning. Barrel rolls, parries, and loop-de-loops keep a pilot in the air, but a level is only won when the soil turns green. Across four stages and four avian bosses, Winrose grows from a starving warren into a thriving town.

It is an unusual premise for a shooter: a pilot whose whole mission is to make barren ground fertile again. For Tim and Megan Bungeroth, the family team at Wondoro, it was personal. They built Air Hares during their long road through infertility, working with a team of freelance programmers, artists, and musicians to make a game whose victories come from growing things rather than destroying them. Along the way, their family grew to include a furry friend who found his way not only into their hearts, but also the game. Arthur, the Cairn terrier and chihuahua mix they adopted from a rescue, became the model for Dirk Doggo, right down to a reference photo of Arthur with a chew stick clamped in his jaw like a cigar. Like Arthur, Dirk is stubborn, soft-hearted, and always ready to chase something, so his ability to pull every falcon on screen after him is very much in character.

The Hare Force Edition update is part of the Switch launch on day one and gives that harvest more hands. Three new pilots join Rabbo and her canine wingman Dirk Doggo in co-op, each with their own health, side speed, and loop length, so choosing a pilot changes how a level plays. Linnie Lightfoote rolls further, slipping out of trouble that would catch anyone else. Betty Bunting holds her line in crosswinds that push the rest of the squadron off course. Candie Clayton answers incoming threats with three parry shots instead of one.

The two originals picked up abilities too: Rabbo can recover once after being knocked out of the sky, and Doggo can draw every falcon on screen toward himself at once, pulling the heat off a partner who is busy farming.

Alongside the Hare Force Edition, every level now carries more ways to play on Steam and Switch. High scoreboards track the best single-player and co-op runs in both Story and Arcade modes, and each level holds three Carrot Achievements: fully seeding and watering every field for 100% Completion, finishing without taking damage, and finishing without aggression. That last one asks players to save every seed for the crop and get past the Gale Gang on dodges and defensive parries alone. A new Squadron section rounds out the update with each pilot’s stats, abilities, and a little of their story.
