Cologne, August 22, 2024 – devcom Developer Conference 2024, held from August 18–20 at the new Koelnmesse Confex conference center, has ended with record-breaking attendance, session, and speaker numbers. More than 5,000 unique participants registered for the conference, an increase of 45% compared to 2023, consolidating devcom’s position as the largest industry conference in Europe and the second largest globally. Included in these numbers are 1,300 gamescom trade visitors who registered for the event and explored the new expo area during the conference’s second day.

The conference featured more than 350 speakers (about 100 more compared to 2023), who presented their topics across 210+ sessions on 17 stages, + Keynote Stage. Additional side events, such as the “Xsolla Game Night,” “European Game Night,” and “Courage Cologne,” contributed to thousands of additional attendees.

In addition to the surge in attendance and content, the conference attracted attendees from 1,660 companies and 83 countries. Notably, 10% of attendees represented companies with 2,000 or more employees, while 27% were from companies with 100 to 2,000 employees. This indicates a significant representation from large, established companies and mid-sized, innovative businesses with substantial resources, influence, and decision-making power in the industry.

The #ddc2024 Keynotes were delivered by Game Writer and Narrative Designer Kelsey Beachum, known for her innovative work on the award-winning indie space adventure title Outer Wilds and Jason Latino, Cinematic Director at Larian Studios reflecting on how dead wrong he was about some of the game’s biggest successes.

Among the most anticipated and bookmarked sessions were Demystifying Creativity (Fawzi Mesmar, VP Global Creative, Ubisoft), Code Power-Ups: 10 Game-changing Programming Hacks (Terrance Cohen, Senior Engine Programmer, Insomniac Games) and You Must Self-Publish: The Future of Indie Funding (Jason Della Rocca, Co-Founder, Execution Labs).

The King of Fighters x Another Eden Collaboration Starts Today

Crossover event features beloved KOF characters, with rewards for new and returning players

The latest in a series of crossovers with esteemed franchises, The King of Fighters: Another Bout features contributions from Laggia, pro KOF player, SNK World Championships 2023 winner, and WFS game designer, along with BON, a fellow game designer and caster for EVO and SNK official tournaments. 

Their passion and expertise enabled the dev team to come up with all-new mechanics that give a fighting-game feel to Another Eden’s turn-based JRPG battle style, and inspired the art team to pore over the original The King of Fighters character animations frame by frame to authentically recreate them for the crossover.

Join protagonist Aldo and his companions from across time and space on his next adventure as a mysterious invitation beckons him to a tournament he must win to save the world. His journey brings him to a giant arena called Darkest Noah, where he must join forces with fighters summoned from The King of Fighters universe to uncover the darkness lurking nearby.

Enter the Hunting Phase before each fight to gather battlecores to earn useful buffs. Choose a three-character team of heroes from both Another Eden and The King of Fighters and engage in one-on-one battles. Try to take down each of the three team members in succession in true King of Fighters style. 

As a special campaign for those joining the world of Another Eden, first-time players can earn 1,000 Chronos Stones between now and September 30. Additionally for a limited time, players can enjoy a boosted login bonus and get up to 1,000 total Chronos Stones, can receive an additional 1,000 as a reward for starting the Symphony, and can choose a five star character to join their team by clearing an early game chapter. 

For those who haven’t played recently, log in during the campaign duration for a maximum of ten days to receive a welcome back gift of 100 Chronos Stones, for a total of up to 1,000 Chronos Stones. Existing players can also invite new or returning players to the game, and both players can receive a special gift (restrictions apply – see website for details).

Turn your eyes to the sky in the 0.945 Update with the introduction of the Dropship, an assault aircraft that launches deadly attacks against the base of top performing players and squads, providing a brand-new survival challenge to long-term players. Dropships will initially be available on a limited number of servers, giving players an opportunity to try out the new content before it gets rolled out across the game.

This update marks the biggest milestone in the development of Wild West Dynasty yet. Not only a culmination of all improvements made since its start into Early Access, version 1.0 brings a plethora of previously unreleased improvements and additions with it. Unify Ancient China Through Transformed Battles in Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 REMAKE!

Utilize Ambushes, Traps, and Conscript to Help Turn the Tide of War!   

BURLINGAME, Calif. – Aug. 22, 2024 – KOEI TECMO America and developer Kou Shibusawa today revealed a slew of advanced battle techniques to their highly anticipated strategy game, Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 REMAKE. The tactical simulation is based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms VIII with Power Up Kit, complete with both the “All Officers Play” and “All Periods Scenarios” features, as well as a host of new content to deliver the most complete Romance of the Three Kingdoms experience to date. Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 REMAKE is currently in development and will be available Oct. 24, 2024 digitally on Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, and Windows PC via Steam®.

Utilizing the transformed battles of Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 REMAKE, players will lean heavily, not only on their invading armies, but on human relationships.In “Parliament”, when selecting “March” to invade enemy cities, players will “Adjust” units participating in battle. Players will have decisions to make on leaders and their deputies along with other factors including: “Troop Type” such as infantry and heavy cavalry, “Siege Weapons” like rams and breaching towers, and “Ships” for crossing water. The battlefield includes various terrains such as plains, mountains, and rivers, so advantageously organizing units will be the key to winning strategy, as the selection of officers affects both the unit’s abilities as well as the possible tactics and the difficulty of coordination with other units. By considering the relationships among officers, players can form a more powerful army.

Additionally, players will find that “Conscript” impacts both domestic affairs and strategies. Throughout the game, soldiers will gradually increase each season based on the draft population, which is relative to the city’s population. If players wish to recruit soldier’s more quickly, they can select “Conscript” during parliament, but this will also lower the city’s public order. If the public order falls below a certain level, it may lead to unrest or rebellion, including penalties like being unable to “Conscript”. Besides the decision between military strength and city stability, this feature also adds depth in gameplay as player can apply new strategies like using schemes to lower the public order in an enemy city to block their conscription.  

In addition, players will be able to setup traps for incoming armies, utilize ambushes by placing armies out of the line of sight in areas such as forests or rocky terrains, and use defensive buildings such as “Watchtower”, “Gate”, and “Signal Tower”, each with unique effects on the defensive side of the battlefield. “Tactics” from Romance of the Three Kingdoms VIII with Power Up Kit will also be significantly upgraded as categories will increase from 15 to over 40, while the effects of tactics will be revamped and the overall balance adjusted.

Battles also feature elements such as “Stratagem”, which have a wide-ranging impact, and “Link Forged” where friendly officers lead their units cooperatively. By combining these with features like “Troop Types” and “Tactics”, players can fight enemy armies more effectively. Particularly, officers with unique battle traits, like Guan Yu, can create dramatic scenarios where they wipe out tens of thousands of enemy troops by skillfully coming these elements, even allowing for legendary comebacks akin to the “Battle of Chibi”!
