Play the demo for hyperkinetic side-scrolling ninja action game Demon Crush today

Back the game now on Kickstarter!

Raleigh, North Carolina, October 1st, 2024 – Indie developer Reverting Castles is proud to unleash a playable demo for its upcoming blistering 2D pixel art action game Demon Crush. Available now on Steam, this demo, “Kenzo’s Fury” lets players try out the first level of Demon Crush, where they must master the art of the tonfa, staff, and kusari-gama as they slice, kick and leap their way through swathes of foes in feudal Japan!

Demon Crush casts you as Kenzo Yagimoto, the guardian warrior and the last hope of Gochima Village. As invading soldiers and demons look to crush the warrior’s spirit for all time, Kenzo must fight beside his allies to drive them back. Battle warlords, beasts, magicians, and demons as you explore an ancient kingdom!

Master using multiple weapons in free-flowing combos. With your paired tonfa, staff, and kusari-gama mapped to different buttons, any move can link into any other, enabling you to create your own combos and personalize your playstyle. Get into the flow and adapt to combat situations as they unfold. Every martial arts technique has its own timing and affects your tactical positioning differently, so stay sharp!

Like the best retro games, Demon Crush is designed to be replayed with a carefully crafted scoring system to rate your performance in each level. Maximize your score with deadly quickness and stylish combat techniques! Speedrunners and streamers will also get a kick out of Demon Crush’s optional in-game timer and controller status readouts to show off your skills!

If you’d like to support Demon Crush in its development, Reverting Castles has launched a Kickstarter campaign to ensure they have the resources to develop Demon Crush to its full potential on PC and consoles.

Demon Crush is our love letter to retro classics like Ninja Gaiden and Shinobi, reimagined with modern technology and contemporary ideas,” said Game Director Richard Hinckley. “With this demo we wanted to prove that Demon Crush isn’t just a concept for a Kickstarter, but a playable product with a complex combat system already in place. The extra funding will be to help us hire a level designer and bring Demon Crush to all platforms. We hope you enjoy slashing and grappling your way through the Demon Crush demo, and we’re eager to hear your feedback!”

Demon Crush will be available in 14 languages including: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Latin America), Portuguese (Portugal), Portuguese (Brazil), Arabic, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified), and Chinese (Traditional).

Safe In Our World and The Multiplayer Group Invite Gamers to Take Part in Halloween-Themed D&D One-Shot for Press Pause 2024 Fundraiser

LONDON, UK – October 1, 2024 – Calling all Dungeon Masters, seasoned heroes, and aspiring adventurers! Video games mental health charity Safe In Our World has partnered with The Multiplayer Group to invite gamers to raise funds while having fun playing an all-new D&D adventure – written exclusively for the charity’s Press Pause 2024 fundraiser.

Gather your friends for an eerie, 80’s inspired D&D one-shot to raise funds for Press Pause 2024, an annual fundraiser that encourages gamers to press pause on life by pressing play in game.

The Gatekeeper sees players take on the role of a team of ghost hunters hired by the manager of the Press Pause arcade to banish a terrifying ghost that has driven away all the customers,” explains The Gatekeeper co-writer Bridie Daniels. “Explore the derelict building, uncover the secrets of its haunted arcade machines, and keep an eye out for The Gatekeeper – a lost spirit determined to protect its high scores!”

Players are encouraged to set up their very own fundraisers on Tiltify and gather their friends between October 25th and November 3rd for private games or live-streamed playthroughs of The Gatekeeper. Find out more about how to get involved by watching this handy video from Content & Community Manager, Rosie Taylor. Safe In Our World will be supporting fundraising efforts by rewarding players who raise over £100 in funds with custom L’Emporium du Bizarre D&D dice shakers. Over the course of the fundraiser, Safe In Our World will be holding a giveaway for a Legion Go handheld gaming console, generously donated by the Legion Gaming Community. The charity also welcomes players to share their D&D characters with them on social media and on the official Safe In Our World Discord ahead of their playthroughs.

“We really want to make a point that anybody can set up a Tiltify and enjoy the one-shot we have crafted. The Gatekeeper was designed as an entry-level adventure that can easily be built on or customised by more familiar players,” commented Sky Tunley-Stainton, The Gatekeeper co-writer and Partnerships & Training Manager at Safe In Our World. “This includes first-time players, brand-new D&D groups, or even groups of colleagues. We’d love to see our industry peers setup company fundraisers to support the campaign!”

Safe In Our World will be hosting its very own live playthrough of The Gatekeeper on November 2nd, which will air live on the Safe In Our World Twitch channel. And, while the charity is excited to see its adventure brought to life, the D&D one-shot isn’t the only way to raise funds for Press Pause. Participants are welcome to get creative and come up with their own fundraising ideas, from game-a-thons to marathons! Those who would prefer to donate rather than setting up their own fundraisers can do so directly to Safe In Our World here.

Journey into the Unknown with The Electric State Roleplaying Game, Available Now

The Highly Anticipated Adaptation of Simon Stalehag’s Narrative Artbook Takes Players on A Road Trip on the Verge of Reality

Today, Free League Publishing is excited to announce that its highly anticipated tabletop RPG adaptation of Simon Stålenhag’s narrative artbook, The Electric State, is now available in the Free League webshop, hobby stores, and digitally on DrivethruRPG.

Learn more about The Electric State Roleplaying Game here.

The Electric State Roleplaying Game includes lavish art by Simon Stålenhag, including pieces created for The Electric State art book project but never published before.

Written by Nils Hintze (Tales From the Loop RPG, Vaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying) in collaboration with the Free League core team, the rules of the game are based on the acclaimed Year Zero Engine, used in award-winning games such as the ALIEN RPG, the Blade Runner RPG, the Tales From the Loop RPG, and The Walking Dead Universe RPG, but uniquely tailored for The Electric State Roleplaying Game.

The Electric State Roleplaying Game is a standalone book that contains all the tools you need to play and create campaigns in a society on the brink of apocalypse. It also includes a complete short campaign, ready to play out of the book.

Following the discovery of neuronics in the late 1960s, technology diverged from our world. It is now the year 1997, and the world is on the verge of apocalypse. The ever-present Sentre corporation pushes neuronic technology to the population via cheap headsets. Civilization crumbles as something strange spreads through the neuronic net. People fail to turn up for work, basic services cease to function, and the government is rapidly losing control.

The Electric State is coming.

Players will embark on a journey of exploration and relations, conflict between groups and individuals found on the road, and they will discover what they are willing to do when they’re stuck halfway to their goal and bad turns to worse.

In late 1997, a runaway teenager and her yellow toy robot travel west through a strange USA, where the ruins of gigantic battle drones litter the countryside along with the discarded trash of a high-tech consumerist society in decline. As their car nears the edge of the continent, the world outside the window seems to unravel at an ever-faster pace, as if somewhere beyond the horizon, the hollow core of civilization has finally caved in.

The Electric State is soon to be adapted into a major motion picture by the Russo brothers (Avengers: Endgame), starring Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) and Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy).

Simon Stålenhag (b. 1984) is the internationally acclaimed author and artist behind Tales From the Loop, Things From the Flood, The Electric State, and The Labyrinth. His highly imaginative images and stories depicting illusive sci-fi phenomena in mundane, hyper-realistic Scandinavian and American landscapes have made Stålenhag one of the most sought-after visual storytellers in the world.

Tales From the Loop was ranked one of the 10 Best Dystopias by The Guardian, along with such works as Franz Kafka’s The Trial and Andrew Niccol’s Gattaca. The narrative art book was turned into a multiple award-winning tabletop roleplaying game and a board game by Free League. In 2019, his book The Electric State was shortlisted for the Arthur C. Clarke Award and the Locus Award. His first book, Tales From the Loop, was adapted into a TV show on Amazon Prime in 2020.

Free League Publishing is a game studio and publisher dedicated to speculative fiction based in Stockholm, Sweden. Voted Fan Favorite Publisher at the ENNIES in 2020, 2021 and 2023, Free League has published a wide range of award-winning tabletop roleplaying games and acclaimed art books set in strange and wondrous worlds.

Escape a haunted arcade cabinet in Tron-Inspired 4-player co-op comedy horror game Terrorbytes

Demo coming to Steam Next Fest October 14th

Vancouver, Canada, October 1st, 2024 – Publisher Over the Moon (The Fall, The Last Hero of Nostalgaia) and developer Treetop are proud to reveal their next title: the 4-player comedy horror game Terrorbytes. Inspired by Tron and Stranger Things, Terrorbytes follows four rebellious young friends as they’re sucked into a haunted arcade cabinet and forced to gather pellets for the horrifically mangled retro arcade hero “Ms Croak-Man”.

A terrible and sadistic virus has twisted and turned everything upside down, including the players: In a cruel mockery, players are forced to take the role of the ghosts (the game’s old villains) and run from Ms Croak-Man. Can you survive long enough to uncover the mysterious evil that has trapped you, and escape?

Cooperation in Terrorbytes is a key feature: All players collect pellets for energy, which go into a shared pool, and everything has a cost; even sprinting costs energy,  so players will have to manage energy carefully if they want to meet the game’s collection targets, or purchase upgrades and special items. Items range from a humble flashlight, to a satisfying power washer, to map-room upgrades that allow players to spawn helpful arrows, decoys, or broadcast their voice to other players. You’ll need all the help you can get to survive this arcade realm full of skin-walkers, invisible stalkers, pocket-dimension horrors, and more.

You’ll be able to go hands-on with Terrorbytes as soon as October 14th when its demo goes live for Steam Next Fest. This will include four different selectable characters with VO, two stages, two equipable items, three safe room upgrades, four enemy anomalies, and one iconic big baddie to terrorize players.

With Terrorbytes we wanted to create something equal parts funny and scary,” said John Warner, Founder and Studio Lead at Over the Moon. “Getting scared and then laughing about it with your friends is a ton of fun, and what better setting for that than in a haunted arcade machine? From Stranger Things, we learned that the wonder and nostalgia of the 80’s allows us to create a vibe that’s tense and scary, but also fun and playful, and that balance is what Terrorbytes is all about: four kids, playing with being ‘rebellious’ and ‘bad,’ break into an arcade and have an encounter with actual, real evil. It’s a classic story in a new, fun format!”

Nantes, France, October 1st, 2024 – Helios Studio shares a closer look at Black One Blood Brothers, a tactical single-player FPS offering a strategic experience with extensive customization and high replayability.

Black One Blood Brothers has been in development for nearly four years, created by Victor, a passionate and versatile solo developer who successfully launched the game in Early Access on Steam two years ago. The 1.0 release is scheduled for 2025.

Today, Helios Studio introduces a major update to the Early Access version of the game, featuring a complete overhaul of characters, animations, weapons, and their customization. Alongside numerous enhancements, the update delivers a more immersive experience in a solo campaign packed with 20 missions, a procedural campaign mode, and additional game modes, allowing players to experience the world of Black One Blood Brothers in various ways.

Black One Blood Brothers is a tactical single-player military FPS where strategy and coordination are key. Joining the “Black One” unit, you become part of an elite force composed of top operators from around the globe. Operating independently of any government, this unit works from the shadows, free from political games and diplomatic constraints. As the leader of this squad, you’re tasked with executing complex missions where every decision could mean the difference between life and death. Customize your crew, plan and adjust your tactics dynamically, and enjoy high replayability.

  • Campaign Mode: Operation “Serpent’s Whisper” – During the adventure offered in the campaign mode through Operation “Serpent’s Whisper”, the story kicks off in response to the insurgent group “New World,” which has launched devastating attacks across the globe within days. Your mission is to neutralize this threat and trace the funding behind these attacks through 20 increasingly challenging missions. Be advised, the loss of an operator is permanent!
  • Gameplay & Realism – Developed in collaboration with a former French Special Forces Commando Marine, “Black One Blood Brothers” stands out for its demanding and immersive gameplay. Command a squad of 10 operators, each with unique skills, and seamlessly switch between them to leverage their specialties in either first-person or third-person view. Success hinges on meticulous planning, optimal equipment management, and teamwork.
  • Plan Plans & Quick Orders – Implement precise action sequences for each squad member using a complex yet intuitive “Battle Plan” system. Organize your forces into multiple teams, coordinate their movements, and devise custom tactics to tackle any situation, or switch to real-time command with “Quick Orders” for dynamic decision-making.
  • High-Risk Missions – Undertake high-risk missions including target neutralization, hostage rescue, bomb defusal, and retrieval of secret documents.
  • Customize your Squad – Customization is at the heart of “Black One Blood Brothers.” Build your squad from the ground up, selecting each member’s skills and arming them with the finest arsenal.
  • Game Modes & Replayability – With a variety of game modes (Dynamic campaign, Spec Ops, War, POW, Siege, Lone Wolf, Blind Ops) and a powerful, user-friendly map editor, Black One Blood Brothers offers vast replayability. Customize your missions, adjust difficulty, select your battlefields, and share your creations with the community through the Steam Workshop.

Victor, solo developer and founder of Helios Studio, commented: “Creating Black One Blood Brothers has been a true passion project that took me several years to build. My goal was to bring back the joy of a tactical FPS in single-player, where everyone can play at their own pace and develop their own combat strategies. But I also wanted to go further with the innovative Battle Plan feature, adding an extra layer of strategy on top of the first-person view and quick commands. Seeing the game’s community grow has been a real pleasure, and I’m thrilled to release this new update, which directly addresses players’ feedback.”

ABOUT HELIOS STUDIO is a video game development studio founded and led by Victor. Specializing in Unreal Engine development for the past 8 years, Victor is passionate about creating immersive worlds.
