Following the success of Creative Director Mike Bithell’s Thomas Was Alone, indie studio Bithell Games was founded in 2013. Since then, we have collected a small team of creatives and our little game about rectangles has evolved into a substantial catalog, including stealth action, visual novels, and cyberpunk card games, a portfolio which has grown to include collaborations with iconic franchises in our original titles, such as John Wick Hex. We’ve shipped a total of ten games in addition to our radio drama miniseries North Star Rising. We’ve also published two books – the GameDev Business Handbook and GameDev Budgeting Handbook – and are proud to support other independent developers’ work, most recently the BAFTA-nominated Fights in Tight Spaces and Ancient Enemy.
We work as a remote team that pursues projects that keep us interested and enthusiastic as developers. Our jobs are approached with strong communication and a strict no-crunch policy; our team is encouraged to keep healthy work-life boundaries so that they can keep creating fantastic games without sacrificing their wellbeing.

New York, NY (October 14, 2024) – Ready your spellbooks, sharpen your battle axes, and prepare to delve into some dungeons as today, indie studio Burgee Media is thrilled to launch the demo for single-player MMO-like Erenshor. Inspired by classic MMORPGs but designed as a single-player experience, Erenshor appeals to busy gamers who want to quickly dive in, make progress, and enjoy a few minutes of offline play, whether they’re on the go or taking a short break.
Watch the Erenshor Shivering Step demo launch trailer here:
Just in time for Halloween and October’s Steam Next Fest, the new Erenshor demo showcases a brand new region: Shivering Step. A suitably spooky and eerie new area, Shivering Step beckons players further into the Island of Stowaway’s Step to uncover the mysteries behind its dark atmosphere (maybe even coming across a friendly skeleton or two.) The updated demo offers a swath of new content, including six new bosses, over 25 new equitable items to discover, and much more for up to 12 hours of fresh gameplay.
Harkening to beloved legacy MMOs of the ’90s and early 2000s, like EverQuest and RuneScape, Erenshor recreates the experience of a typical MMORPG. However, instead of real players, would-be adventurers are surrounded by hundreds of “Simulated Players” who act as stand-ins for human gamers. Team up with these SimPlayers for raids, trading, and much more. As a single-player game, there are no time commitments—players can jump in and out whenever they like. The world continues to evolve in ‘real-time’ while real-life calls, but progress won’t be made until players hop back into the fray.
SimPlayers will level up alongside players, whether they’re on or offline. They’ll discover new items both independently and with player assistance, request loot drops, trade gear, join and leave guilds, and even invite players to raids as they become more familiar with them. They should tread carefully, however. Like modern RPG companions, the SimPlayers will remember players and their interactions—for better or worse.
Erenshor is designed entirely as a single-player experience. Every puzzle, piece of content, and gameplay element is handcrafted and balanced for solo play, making it the only “MMO-like” game truly intended for solo enjoyment.
Erenshor Key Features:
MMORPG Gameplay Without the Commitment: In Erenshor, players can revisit the feeling of MMORPG gameplay at their own pace and on their own time. Have to leave a raid early? Have to ditch your group for family time? Do it! Nobody will hold it against them, and they can pick up where they left off next time.
Alone, but Never Lonely: Erenshor boasts a population of “SimPlayers” who will adventure right alongside you. They’ll join your groups, insult your fashion, invite you to raids, and, most importantly—they’ll progress on their own.
A World Divided: Eresnhor’s world is divided into separate ‘zones.’ Areas are unique to themselves and can be traversed at will—whether you’re equipped or not. Explore cities, dungeons, tombs, forests, beaches, forts, meadows, caves, and mountain ranges–a huge world to explore with secrets in every corner.
Hundreds of Quests and NPCs to Discover: Though the adventure is a single-player experience, that doesn’t mean the world of Erenshor is a ghost town. Players will meet and interact with hundreds of in-world NPCs, many with quests to give or gossip to share.
The new Erenshor demo launches today on PC via Steam.
About Burgee Media
Burgee Media is run by solo developer Brian “Burgee” out of Upstate NY, where his passion for video games drives the creative vision for each project. Brian has been making indie games for over seven years. He is currently working on Erenshor, a “Single Player MMORPG” that is fully offline but populated by our signature ‘SimPlayers’ – virtual characters who level up, attain gear, and group with you. Play an MMORPG on your own schedule, and never worry about falling behind!
Vancouver, Canada, October 14th, 2024 – Publisher Over the Moon (The Fall, The Last Hero of Nostalgaia) and developer Treetop are proud to reveal that their upcoming 4-player comedy horror game Terrorbytes is coming to Steam Early Access on October 22nd. Inspired by Tron and Stranger Things, Terrorbytes follows four rebellious young friends as they’re sucked into a haunted arcade cabinet and forced to gather pellets for the horrifically mangled retro arcade hero “Ms Croak-Man”.
A terrible and sadistic virus has twisted and turned everything upside down, including the players: In a cruel mockery, players are forced to take the role of the ghosts (the game’s old villains) and run from Ms Croak-Man. Can you survive long enough to uncover the mysterious evil that has trapped you, and escape?
Cooperation in Terrorbytes is a key feature: All players collect pellets for energy, which go into a shared pool, and everything has a cost; even sprinting costs energy, so players will have to manage energy carefully if they want to meet the game’s collection targets, or purchase upgrades and special items. Items range from a humble flashlight, to a satisfying power washer, to map-room upgrades that allow players to spawn helpful arrows, decoys, or broadcast their voice to other players. You’ll need all the help you can get to survive this arcade realm full of skin-walkers, invisible stalkers, pocket-dimension horrors, and more.
This Early Access version of Terrorbytes will launch with five levels, four different playable characters, five tools, and five safe room upgrades. New maps, playable characters, enemies, and more will be added in the months to come.
You needn’t wait that long to try Terrorbytes for yourself though, as a playable demo is available today through October 22nd as Part of Steam Next Fest. This introduces the first two maps, offering a taste of the hilarious horrors to come in the full game.
“We’re excited to not only let people play the Terrobytes demo today, but to continue their journey into the Early Access release as soon as Next Fest ends on October 22nd,” said John Warner, Founder and Studio Lead at Over the Moon. “The Early Access version offers significantly more maps, tools, upgrades and enemies than the current demo, and that’s just the beginning! We’ll be updating throughout Early Access, as we listen to player feedback and add more content.”
