Borderlands 2 to allow local co-op online

Borderlands 1 was a game that took co-op gameplay and the first person shooter, something which has recently become something of a commodity more than a requirement, and made it its own. There was just one problem with the online, and that was that you couldn’t bring your friend right next to you online with you.

That will all change in Borderlands 2, as Gearbox’s Steve Gibson told Joystiq during their Gamescom reveal of the title. The game will now support two-player split-screen online. There is one drawback however, two split screen pairs can not play together as one team has to host the game, and “a split-screen guy uses a lot of CPU, so he can not be the host.” It seems that Borderlands 2 is quickly becoming a must have title for co-op lovers far before its actual release date.

Burnout Crash Gamescom trailer blows things up

If you thought that you’d seen enough of what Criterion Games and EA had done to the Burnout series well, think again. Earlier today both companies released a new gameplay trailer for Burnout Crash which does exactly what you would expect it to do, burnout and crash into other cars.

You can catch the trailer below while trying to remember the good times when Burnout wasn’t a simple arcade game that was meant to be played with the Kinect on the 360 or with a standard controller on the PS3. If your still interested in the title then you should pay attention later in this year when the game is released as a downloadable title for those two previously mentioned consoles.

Fox Engine’s facial rendering system shown off by Hideo Kojima

Well, those are a little creepy to say the least. But perhaps it is simply because they are disembodied floating heads. Moving on. Hideo Kojima recently tweeted a few images of what we can expect from his studio’s new Fox Engine’s ability to render facial images. There were three images released, though all are with the same face.

Moving beyond the horror that the one opened mouth image provides, the actual face itself looks quite impressive. Hideo Kojima’s tweet for these images specifically said “Facial test via “FOX engine.” Shader etc. are still pro pro forma.” So we can expect maybe even better looking faces in the future, but hopefully attached to a body next time.

Silent Hill: Book of Memories is literally a book of the character’s life

If you were wondering why Silent Hill: Book of Memories was named that, well it is because that is the exact premise of the story. In a video released by Konami, Konami producer Tomm Hulett explains that the PlayStation Vita title Silent Hill: Book of Memories will have players “receive a strange book. When you open it, you see your entire life story written on those pages. All your memories.”

Apparently after you go back into your memories you can rewrite them and alter reality. The trailer also shows off some very early gameplay footage directly from Konami. It seems the game will be similar to a four player brawler more than a standard Silent Hill game from this footage, though perhaps things will look better in the future as the game is developed more.

Team Fortress 2 receives some Deus Ex: Human Revolution items

Team Fortress 2 has become perhaps the clearest example of what some people will do when they are offered extra, albeit useless, content in a game that they love for a price. People will spend hundreds of dollars for hats and keys and the like, but most recently Team Fortress 2 has started to be invaded by other big named titles.

Or should I say influences of them are leaking in, because Team Fortress 2 now has some nifty new Deus Ex: Human Revolution themed items. The items range from new weaponry to simple cosmetic changes, though my favorite would have to be the Heavy’s bionic arm addition. 2K Sports Unveil Legends for “NBA’s Greatest” in 2K12

Like the game’s real-life counterpart – the NBA – 2K is remaining fairly quiet about many details of the game. All except for this year’s focal point, the “NBA’s Greatest” mode. 2K Sports today have announced the 15 legends that will feature in the new mode, creating dream match-ups and fighting for legendary supremacy.

The 15 greatest player’s that will be featured in 2k12 are:

  • Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
  • Larry Bird
  • Wilt Chamberlain
  • Julius Erving
  • Patrick Ewing
  • Magic Johnson
  • Michael Jordan
  • Karl Malone
  • Hakeem Olajuwon
  • Scottie Pippen
  • Oscar Robertson
  • Bill Russell
  • John Stockton
  • Isiah Thomas
  • Jerry West

Each of these 15 players have been meticulously created and include signature moves and personalities. Take a look at the tongue-sticking-out level of detail they went to for MJ last year and we can only assume that same level of detail will be included for all of these players.

Additionally, if you pre-order the game you will be given two bonus teams: the 1990-91 Golden State Warriors and the 2001-02 Sacramento Kings. Better get cracking if you want those extra teams.

‘Payday: The Heist’ coming soon to PSN


Being devloped by Overkill Software in Sweden, Payday: The Heist is a cooperative, squad based FPS. Priced at $19.99, the game will launch on the Playstatino Network on October 4, 2011. One interesting fact about this game is that Overkill Software was formed by members of GRIN.

This game aims to be action packed, and the trailer shows off that quite well. Guns, jewels and gadgets all take center stage in Payday, and all of us at Capsule Computers want to get our chance to try to achieve a perfect robbery heist. Somehow, “heist” sounds so much less awful than “robbery.” Are you interested in this game?

Upcoming PSN game – ‘Sideway: New York’


Sideway: New York is bright, cheerful, colorful and charming in its latest trailer. Although the city is dark with the cover of night, New York does not have a foreboding look in this game. Instead, Sideway: New York looks rather like a Cartoon Network production. And indeed, the developers behind the game are attempting to kickstart a cartoon property with this video game, instead of the other way around. Priced at $9.99, this game will release on October 11, 2011 on the Playstation Network. This 2D platformer has definitely piqued our interest due to the outstanding art direction and different idea.

‘Rochard’ – New game for PSN

Rochard is an upcoming game for the Playstation Network, wherein you play an old timey space miner with a Texas accent. Created by former employees at Remedy, the new studio, named Recoil games, is releasing this game for $9.99 on September 27, 2011. Although the accents are a little ridiculous, we did enjoy the humor, and the guffaws were many and loud. Check out the trailer below, and let us know what you think. Will you be going underground to save Rochard from the dangerous enemies beneath? This puzzle-platformer certainly looks like it has the action to be exciting enough.

Surviving High School goes High Def for the iPad

High school is one of the most dramatic times of your life so it was only a matter of time until a game based around that drama was made. EA mobile have released Surviving High School HD on the iPad based on that concept.

I’m sure a fair few of us would have enjoyed high school a lot more if we’d had the control over events then that you can have in this game; you can choose your place in the high school hierarchy, interact with evolving storylines, and participate in some epic first loves. Every week there are new free episodes that come out as the characters around you get into their own angsty teenage dramas and you can either get involved or keep away.

The iPad version comes with a visual upgrade to High Def that improves the graphics of those pretty faces. It also comes with the addition of ‘Faceplace’ a Facebook imitation where the characters post about their feelings and maybe what they ate for lunch. Along with these two features the interface and general look is given a facelift, improving the gaming experience overall.
