MMM, there is nothing better than freshly killed Orcs. Luckily, you will soon have a new mode, named the Chaos Challenge, to kill them in. The release date for the Chaos Challenge is sometime in December. The new downloads will include “new boss rounds, new co-op arenas and new enemy units like the Imperial Sanctioned Psyker.” Of course, it will cost you. 800 points or $10 to be specific.
Three new warzone operations across the Habs Ablaze, Station Tertius and Aquila Canyon maps will be included. In addition, a CTF mode will also be in the DLC, although it will be outside the Chaos Unleashed mode.
Coffee Stain Studio announced today the upcoming ‘The Old City’ patch. Lead Designer Oscar Jilsen explained that they were going to add on to the story and experience for all players. Sanctum’s Old City DLC is said to add in a new weapon and tower for players to access. Jilsen added. “Slums will bring players to the Old City, a place that we haven’t really had the opportunity to show just yet. Elsewhere, the rescue efforts are going deeper underground to escape the aliens because the roots the aliens originate from are incapable of going below a certain depth. All in all, we’re working on expanding on the universe and showing the real plot behind Sanctum.”
“I’m excited about the geeky technical stuff. We’ve finally sorted out [most of] the bugs,” said Lead Programmer Markus Rännare. “Sanctum now has localization support, client side hit detection to help reduce the feeling of lag, FOV setting support and cloud saves. We’re also introducing three new game modes to the game. The game is, quite literally, better than it ever was. “In addition to the new content, Coffee Stain Studios also announced that Steam will be hosting a Free Weekend for Sanctum from the November 3-6. During this period of time, players will be able to play for absolutely nothing.
When you play Namco Bandai’s latest racing game, Ridge Racer: Unbounded, you will have these words ringing in your head:
“My city, my streets… I created this place and you’re trying to take over…?
I’ll track you down, destroy your creations, dominate your city and when I’ll do… you’ll know!”
At least we think that’s what you’ll be hearing. Those engine noises and crash sound effects were really loud. Better take a look at the trailer yourself to make sure.
Ridge Racer Unbounded will be available on March 2nd, 2012 in Europe and on the 6th in North America.

Last week we got a nice look at Hitman: Absolution with the nearly 17 minute trailer, showing Agent 47 run through the “Run For your life” portion of the game. If that clip didn’t give you enough information about the upcoming title, a new clip has surfaced that adds in commentary from Director Tore Blystad and Gameplay Director Christian Elverdam.
While the video remains unchanged, the commentary is rather enlightening as the duo explain changes that Absolution has made in gameplay from the previous entries in the series, as well as some fresh details that players can expect to see within the entire experience. Check out the video in full below and once more news surfaces for Hitman: Absolution, we will be sure to bring out an update.
Rayman is set to return to full 2D platforming glory in less than two weeks, but Ubisoft have now released a new trailer to show us the much darker side of the same. Yeah, that’s right. The deaths. This clip shows us 10 different ways that Rayman and friends can meet their untimely demise. From getting squashed by the environment, mauled by fish, and many other ways, each time these heroes meet their doom, they puff up like a balloon and pop, which is a nice way to go if you as me.
You can check out the new trailer below and get ready for some campy deaths as Rayman Origins launches on November 15th.

A news report that has aired on 7 news on the 3rd of November has claimed that, even though he does support a R18+ rating in Australia, New South Wales Attorney General Greg Smith has called for a ban of video games like Grand Theft Auto, citing reasons such as violence and sexual content. The report also claims that England and Norway already ban games like this as well as linking the July massacre in Norway to violence in video games, despite evidence that there are other factors that would have been more significant, like a manifesto revealing his extremist side.
This is very misleading by Channel Seven. Both England and Norway do have 18+ ratings in place and allow games like Grand Theft Auto to be sold on store shelves. The report also refers to the ‘Hot Coffee’ controversy of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. However, the game is seven years old and the controversy was only raised due to an unofficial modification rather than official means, meaning that regular players would have no access to this mini game.
The position of the Attorney General is convoluted. The idea of having a R18+ rating is to allow the intended audience still have the freedom to purchase games that are meant for them and to inform parents that a certain game is inappropriate for their children, something that is juxtapose by the report by placing young children in front of a inappropriate game for said children. Claiming that games such as Grand Theft Auto should be ban while still supporting the R18+ rating will defeat the purpose of said rating. Fortunately, a spokesperson from the Attorney General’s office did clarify the comment made via IGN.
“We are still firmly committed to the R18+ classification but we don’t want any dilution of the Refused Classification category, and games should be assessed accordingly. Obviously the Attorney General’s expressing his opinion of the game, but obviously these guidelines will be developed over time. His main concern is that if something is grotesquely violent and it merits Refused Classification that it should be refused classification… but we’re still on board with R18+; we want that to go ahead.”
The issue of Refused Classification was in fact discussed at ‘The Politics of Play’ public debate last Thursday at GAME, held at Macquarie University. The guidelines of the RC category (yes, they do have guidelines) must fit in such a way that it offends society in general. Games like Grand Theft Auto and Saints Row: The Third may contain elements within the game to offend to some but not to the majority, which means it does not warrant a RC rating.
In terms of the report, it is ill-research and provides an unbalance point of view, skewing the average viewer to an ill-advised perspective. The use of a game scene inaccessible to the average gamer (and also raises questions about their knowledge of said fact), the irresponsible staged scene of young children playing a game which has been clearly classified for an older age group and suggesting that video games are to blame for a horrific event shows how far the traditional forms of media shall sensationalize video games and use them as an easy scapegoat.
[UPDATE]: The Interactive Gaming and Entertainment Association has responded to the report in a letter sent to Peter Meakin, CEO of Channel 7, backing the points I have made in the article above. For the letter, follow this link.
