Years in the Making, The New Online Resource Features a Robust Collection of Magazines, Game Development Materials, Marketing Materials, and More for Researchers, Historians, and Curious Visitors to Explore, Discover and Learn From

EMERYVILLE, CA – Jan. 30, 2025 – The Video Game History Foundation (VGHF), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and celebration of the history of video games, has officially launched the VGHF Digital Library. The archive is currently in early access and open to anyone interested in the study of video game history for free at library.gamehistory.org.

Check out the VGHF Library launch video above

Researchers, gamers and the general public will have access to more than 30,000 curated files (with lots more to come) of industry ephemera straight from the VGHF’s physical collection, including more than 1,500 full-text searchable out-of-print video game magazines, never-before-seen game development assets, artwork, promotional materials, and more gaming relics, making it one of the largest repositories of game industry history in the world. Anyone with a need or curiosity for learning more about how gaming has evolved is encouraged to bookmark and access the wealth of information and unique physical statement pieces spanning more than 50 years.

“We’ve been working on this project since we founded the Video Game History Foundation in 2017, so we’re extremely proud to start providing access to our digital library and continue our mission to make video game history accessible to anyone,” said Frank Cifaldi, founder of the Video Game History Foundation. “We believe that with the right tools, anyone can be a video game historian, and we can’t wait to see what new stories our archive inspires. We also hope this inspires those in the video game industry to consider the importance of preserving their work and contributing to initiatives like ours.”

The VGHF Library is designed as a unique destination and research tool, allowing users to search for specific games, authors, publishers, and other metadata across public and previously internal materials:

  • Want to find a chronological list of mentions of your favorite game?
  • See what designers used for reference when designing classic games based on properties like Batman, Sonic the Hedgehog, the Myst series, and more?
  • Search through classic magazines such as Game Informer, GamePro, Next Generation, PSM and more?
  • Or maybe dig into video footage from the show floor of E3 2000?

The VGHF Library also hosts more complicated digital materials, like vintage art assets and information sent to magazines for use in their publications, or viewing websites and presentations as they were originally seen.

Other highlights of the VGHF Library include:

  • Guidebooks and ephemera from game events, including searchable directories and maps from the first 12 years of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).
  • An extensive international collection of FromSoftware promotional materials, collected by citizen archivist Kris Urquhart, with a blessing from FromSoftware to donate them to the library.
  • 100 CDs of art and press releases from GamePro’s magazine archive.
  • Over 100 hours of footage from the production of the Myst series, including never-before-seen interviews with the Cyan team.
  • The Mark Flitman papers, a treasure trove of documents collected over the course of Flitman’s career at video game publishers like Konami, Acclaim, Atari, and more.

“At the Video Game History Foundation, we think the best way to study game history is to have access to the raw materials,” said Phil Salvador, Library Director at the VGHF. “Our vision has always been to open our collections to everyone, whoever and wherever you are, and after years of work, today we’re taking the first step towards that open digital future. We sincerely think this tool is going to change how people study video game history. We cannot wait to see what historians, researchers, authors, YouTubers, fans, and everyone in-between will discover.”

The VGHF Library is a powerful, one of a kind resource, and its dedicated team is committed to continually updating the features and offering for years to come.

Los Angeles, CA – January 30th, 2025 – Force Multiplier Studios is thrilled to announce that it has partnered with Dimitri Logothetis and Rob Hickman, the acclaimed filmmakers behind Kickboxer: Vengeance, Kickboxer: Retaliation and the upcoming Kickboxer: Armageddon, to develop the first ever Kickboxer video game.

Currently in early development, the video game will combine the rich narrative of Kickboxer with kinetic martial arts action to deliver an intense, high-octane brawler, and feature iconic characters and locations from the franchise originally starring martial arts icon Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Debuting in 1989, Kickboxer has left an indelible mark on pop culture, celebrated for its thrilling fight sequences and inspiring themes of resilience and redemption. This partnership aims to bring the high-octane universe of Kickboxer to gaming, offering fans an immersive martial arts brawler experience.

Force Multiplier Studios is a new development studio co-founded by Jeremy Breslau, Brent Friedman and Charnjit Bansi, video game industry veterans who led narrative and design on multiple AAA franchises, including Call of Duty, Borderlands and Halo. They have also worked extensively in film adaptations from the Tomb Raider and Mortal Kombat universes.

Kickboxer is more than just a film; it’s a cultural phenomenon that has inspired generations of fans and martial artists alike,” said Dimitri Logothetis, writer and director of Kickboxer: Armageddon, and who has been instrumental in reviving the franchise with recent film adaptations. “I’m thrilled to collaborate with the incredible team at Force Multiplier Studios. We’re going to create a gaming experience that pays tribute to the original film while introducing exciting new gameplay elements.”

“With the expertise of Force Multiplier Studios, we’re building something that will not only honor the franchise’s legacy but redefine what fans can expect from a martial arts brawler,” added producer Rob Hickman.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be partnering with Dimitri and Rob to bring Kickboxer into the gaming world,” said Jeremy Breslau, CEO of Force Multiplier Studios. “Our passion is innovation, and just as we’re innovating on Fortnite Creative with our own environmental combat shooter experience Karnivus: Rooftop Rumble, we can’t wait to innovate the fighting genre with incredibly visceral combat and an emphasis on the environment and what you can do in it. We are crafting a dynamic brawler that will empower players to be the best kickboxers in the world, traveling to exotic locales and introducing new environmental combat mechanics to deliver a martial arts experience like never before.”

More information on the Kickboxer video game will be revealed later this year.

*Karnivus: Rooftop Rumble is available to play now in Fortnite (Island Code: 1086-9838-9592), and is a precursor to Karnivus, an all-new gladiatorial bloodsport ‘PvE’ shooter currently in development at Force Multiplier Studios.

SALUTE, HUT! WARGAME ROGUELIKE ‘ROGUE CONFLICT’ DEMO AVAILABLE NOW

Get a taste of the battle field in this tactical, turn-based strategy roguelike

Marieham, Finland, 30 January 2025 | Solo indie developer Frans Wikman is proud to share the demo of his debut game, Rogue Conflict, available now on Steam. Blending the wargaming and roguelike communities, Rogue Conflict features original 2D sprite key art created by Wikman himself. Players are invited to experience his fresh take on the classic wargame genre before its full release.

March Onwards, On The Double!

Whether you are a seasoned wargame veteran or new to the genre, Rogue Conflict is perfect for newcomers and veteran players alike. Take on the position of a lightly decorated war general and showcase your years of combat training to rise through the military ranks. In the demo, experience the first mission and aim to complete all necessary objectives within the turn count. Featuring a wide selection of military units, ranging from infantry troops to tanks, players will be challenged to assess their enemies, pick the best-suited army faction for the task, and use battle terrain across seven procedurally generated maps to their advantage.

That’s An Order!

Begin every mission with a classified intelligence report from high command outlining your primary mission objectives. Start with the deployment phase, strategically positioning your men for battle. Lead with recon units to reveal enemy ambush locations. Use the secondary support of artillery units to deal additional long-range damage to enemy bases—and their morale. Close in with tanks for heavy attacks. Lastly, call on air support to finish the job. The demo features three unique army factions, all with distinct strengths and weaknesses. Select an artillery-focused faction for extreme range, which features heavy artillery units to break down enemy resistance, but lacking support units and air power. Opt for a tank-focused faction to dominate open terrains, though you may struggle on rougher biomes. Alternatively, for a more balanced gameplay experience, use a well-rounded faction that covers all warfare areas at the cost of not excelling in any one given area.

Over And Out!

Complete missions to restore key enemy targets—villages, supply depots, nuclear power plants, and enemy headquarters. After completing a mission, players can use a Requisition Point System to upgrade their troops’ abilities. Earn requisition points based on the increasing strength of your enemies or by completing the mission with turns remaining. Spend RP points to unlock more advanced vehicles, equipment, and weaponry. However, be mindful of spending all of your points at headquarters; you never know when you’ll need to call on more reinforcements during the heat of battle!

Rogue Conflict’s demo is available now on Steam.
