In Japan, the UMD Passport Program allows Playstation Portable owners to grab digital versions of their PSP games on UMD for a special price. It looks like it will be a Japanese exclusive as a report on Kotaku has revealed that Sony Computer Entertainment America will not bring the program to North America. This leaves North American owners no way to play their physical PSP games on their Playstation Vita.
With that said, this announcement is only for North America. This means the program still has a possibility to be implemented in the European and PAL territories. However, with the announcement of the no-show in North America, the presence in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and other PAL territories is still a long shot. The Playstation Vita is only backward compatible with digital copies of PSP games.
What do you think of the UMD Passport no-show in North America? Tell us what you think below.
Those who pay their hard earned money to be a Call of Duty Elite premium member, who also uses an Xbox 360, can expect to see the next piece of free DLC for the title on February 21st. Those who play MW3 on other platforms will need to wait awhile longer as usual. What does this DLC include you ask? Well, one map that fans may recognize due to its similarity to a level from Modern Warfare 2.
The map itself is called Overwatch and it places players on the top of a New York City skyscraper in the middle of a construction site. If this sounds familiar at all then you probably have played the map Highrise before. Still, it is good to see Activision is following their release schedule properly.
Or at least she will if you can manage to beat her in battle. Today the first piece of DLC for Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIII-2 has been released onto the XBLM and PSN. In this DLC you will be able to enter into a Coliseum battle against Lightning and Master Sergeant Amodar and if you manage to beat them they will be added into your party.
While this may just be a simple battle, Square Enix does state that fans can expect more DLC that will “enhance the experience” players found in FFXIII-2. They did not provide any time-line at the moment, instead stating that we can expect said DLC at a later date. You can check out some screenshots of the characters and the battle below.
Lately there has been a disturbing trend among some video game developers. That trend is that as soon as they finish working on a brand new title, or shortly after, the studio then fires a large amount of their employees. The latest developing company to do this is none other than Eat Sleep Play, the developers of the upcoming Twisted Metal game.
It seems that despite having their PlayStation 3 exclusive title releasing next week, the company has fired eight employees leaving them with a remaining staff of 26 and one of these employees was David Jaffe himself. David Jaffe appears to be working on something for the future however, as he has revealed plans to open up a game studio in San Diego. This is sad news indeed, as even the development of highly expected titles can cause workers to be let go once it is finished.
EA have announced that Mass Effect Infiltrator will be arriving on iOS devices and will tie in with the highly anticipated Mass Effect 3.
Playing through the app’s story will aid players in increasing their “Galactic Readiness” in Mass Effect 3; the higher a player’s readiness, the more likely they will achieve the best possible ending for the final chapter of the Mass Effect trilogy.
An EA PR pamphlet went into further detail:
Take the all-out galactic war in Mass Effect 3 on-the-go with Infiltrator, a fully-featured iOS third-person shooter showcasing stunning graphics and authentic weapons and powers from the Mass Effect series.
Inspired by the deep and immersive Mass Effect 3 universe, in Infiltrator players will help to free prisoners from a hostile Cerberus base and will receive rewards for collecting evidence of Cerberus’ crimes along the way. Every completed rescue and intelligence discovery in Infiltrator will increase a player’s Galactic Readiness rating directly through the Galaxy At War system in Mass Effect 3.
No release date was given, though it is safe to assume that Infiltrator will launch sometime within the vicinity of Mass Effect 3, which hits stores on March 6 (screenshot courtesy of IGN).

In an industry where remakes, reboots and reimaginings are the norm, The Amazing Spider-Man took the biscuit by coming to life only four years after the credits of Spider-Man 3 had rolled. The inital reaction to this Spider-Man reboot was possibly one of the most unanimous in the history of the internet – ‘No! Why? Stop it Hollywood!’
Peter Parker’s story had already been told – why do it again so quickly? More bees were unleashed in bonnets as casting decisions were made, with the 29 year old British actor Andrew Garfield cast as a high school age Peter – too old! too English! Mary Jane was relegated in favour of Gwen Stacy, and the first trailer showcased a jarring change in tone and bothered some critics with a sequence shot in first person perspective – too much like a video game!
Well you know what, this second trailer looks fantastic. Yes, the tone is completely different from Sam Raimi’s trilogy, but refreshingly so. Peter Parker is a different animal, wisecracking with more wit than Tobey Maguire’s take was ever allowed. The mechanical webslingers make an appearance and there’s a brief glimpse of Rhys Ifan’s The Lizard.
The Amazing Spider-Man could revitalise a classic character much in the same way as Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins, after all , Spiderman 3 led to the cancellation of Raimi’s take on the webslinger – Batman and Robin anyone?
So make sure and let the movie speak for itself, and check out the trailer below:
X-Men Wow… Comic book movies are awesome, give me more!
X2 Yes!
X-Men The Last Stand Where did Cyclops go? Why is Vinnie Jones here? What the hell? How many directors did this movie have?
X-Men Origins : Wolverine What have you done to Deadpool?! Since when is Sabretooth Wolverine’s brother? Why are Canadians fighting in all these wars? Why are the special effects worse now than nearly ten years ago? Is this supposed to be funny? I’m never going to watch any of these films in a cinema again.
X-Men First Class I lied. *peeks through fingers* Oh. This is actually quite good.
And thus we come to the next movie in the X-Men franchise – The Wolverine (assuming that First class director Matthew Vaughn finishes his other projects before starting on his sequel). It’s been struggling through production hell for the last few years, but finally has a release date: July 26 2013. This means that Logan’s latest outing will be joining Iron Man 3, Man of Steel and potentially Thor 2 in a truly blockbuster summer line up.
Of course it has a lot of convincing to do after the disappointment that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine, so scheduling it for such a competitive release date is a bold move. Also bold is the timing involved. Star Hugh Jackman is all set to lead in a film adaptation of Les Miserables, and that hasn’t made it’s way out of pre production yet. Throw in another Jackman musical due for release in 2013 and a long overseas shoot for The Wolverine (Darren Aronofsky was due to direct but left the project because of it) and a July release date looks incredibly ambitious. Is there really enough time for Jackman to work on two other movies, Wolverine to be shot and post production to be completed?
Until the cameras start rolling there is no way to know for sure. Here’s hoping that what could be a great X-Men movie- thanks to it source material- isn’t derailed by an overly eager production schedule.
Konami’s latest title NeverDead is all set to receive its first DLC pack on February 21. This bundle of costumes and characters is also accompanied by some new gameplay challenges set in the Asylum level.
First and foremost, the new character: Nikki Summerfield, popstar. The fashionably dressed diva will be available for use in the multiplayer mode, bringing some outfits of questionable practicality to bear with some heavy use of firearms. Leading man Bryce will also receive two new costumes.
The main selling point here however is the expanded gameplay, with three new challenges coming to the Asylum level. The first, Fragile Alliance, is a simple race through checkpoints with added environmental hazards and enemy spawn points to keep you on your toes. Onslaught tasks players with clearing the Asylum of enemies one section at a time, and Egg Hunt has you running around collecting ‘collectibles’ and stashing them in designated score zones.
The game has had something of a rough ride since arriving at the end of January, so can some extra outfits and a popstar keep NeverDead alive?
