Strange Scaffold Announces Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3, Demo Available Now in Steam Next Fest

A survival-horror comedy RPG Metroidvania, from the creators of I Am Your Beast and CLICKOLDING

El Paso, TX – February 24, 2025 – Developer Strange Scaffold (I Am Your Beast, CLICKOLDING, El Paso, Elsewhere), in partnership with publisher Frosty Pop, are proud to unveil their upcoming genre-bending game Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3 today at IGN Fan Fest. A demo of the game is available now through Steam Next Fest.

As a sequel to a game series that doesn’t exist, complete with lore and a fictional development team, Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3 (CRDM3)“commits to the bit” so hard it hurts. This match-3 survival horror comedy RPG Metroidvania (or “matchroidvania”) transports you to a mansion overrun with dinosaurs, and, even more surprisingly, code-breaking bugs. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill creepy mansion; this is one stuck in a video game, and fully aware of it.

Discover the story of how, 20 years ago, the fictional, genre-fusion video game Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion was released as a smash hit. Years later, the franchise returns to the spotlight when Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3 is shown off and announced on gaming’s biggest stage. Meanwhile, a very confused protagonist, J.J. Hardwell, fights off glitching raptors and t-rexes in what he soon realizes is a broken video game that he must save.

Combining razor-sharp game development satire, role-playing, and satisfying match-3 gameplay, Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3 is a bizarre, side-splitting adventure about the way creations can take on a life of their own — and the bright futures the games industry fails to even try to explore.

“Development cycles usually take so long that video games can’t comment on current events, let alone the ones occurring within their own industry,” says Strange Scaffold studio head Xalavier Nelson Jr. “As improbable as it sounds, we want Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3 of all games to take on a medium that currently doesn’t seem to care for its players or developers in a tale that is by turns unsettling, heartwarming, and suitably: angry as hell.”

Key Features

  • A “Matchtroidvania” exploring the development of a sequel to a game series that doesn’t exist.
  • Match-3 is used not just for combat, but for lockpicking doors, debating robots, and swallowing a bunch of diamonds in front of a notorious gem thief so that he can’t steal them first.
  • A choice-based narrative that is part survival-horror parody and part joyful wheel-spinning nightmare.
  • The game is complemented by a haunting, polka soundtrack from award-winning composer David Mason (Dredge, Life Eater).

Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3’s first two chapters are available to play in their entirety through Steam Next Fest, with some special additions in the demo to reflect the event. The full game launches this April on Steam for PC.

Play the extended demo of acclaimed dungeon defense board game adaptation Keep the Heroes Out!

Try new stages during Steam Next Fest – today through March 3rd

Halifax, Canada, February 24th, 2024 – Board game creator Brueh Games and video game developer YarnCat Games have released a new limited time demo for their video game adaptation of Luís Brueh’s acclaimed strategy board game Keep the Heroes Out! Due for an early 2025 launch on PC, Mac and consoles, Keep the Heroes Out! raised over 22x its Kickstarter goal last year, with an ending tally of $224,556.

From now through the end of Steam Next Fest on March 3rd, you’ll be able to play an extended demo encapsulating the game’s tutorial and first four stages. After Steam Next Fest the demo will revert to a smaller section of only the tutorial and first stage.

Keep the Heroes Out! is an asymmetric, cooperative dungeon defense game for 1-4 players where you play as the monsters protecting their hard-earned treasures against invading hordes of “heroes” trying to steal it. This digital rendition of Keep the Heroes Out! offers the same asymmetric, co-op dungeon defense gameplay as its tabletop counterpart with a bevy of added extras.

Your goal as a team is to survive going through the Guild deck two times, protecting the treasures in each room. If the main treasure is taken, the game ends in defeat, but if you manage to protect your treasures for long enough, you all win. Monsters may die, which is tragic, but you can always bring them back to the dungeon, so you are never eliminated from the game. However, once the treasure is gone, it’s gone forever.

The digital game brings the tabletop experience faithfully to life, with the same art style and gameplay, only now being that the computer controls the nasty heroes invading our lair. This means you can play solo against the AI, or get a gaming going remotely with your friends from afar. Furthermore, YarnCat Games has boosted the visuals with fluid animation and a tutorial to help onboard new players. There’s never been an easier, more convenient way to get into hero thwarting!

The original board game version of Keep the Heroes Out! was a massive success, selling over 70,000 copies since its launch in 2022. It became a Golden Geek Best Cooperative Game Nominee at BoardGameGeek, where it’s currently ranked as the 473rd best board game of all time out of a database of roughly 156,000 titles. For thematic games, it’s even ranked as the 80th best board game out there!

“We’re thrilled that people are so eager to play this digital adaptation of Keep the Heroes Out!” said Luís Brueh, Founder of Brueh Games and solo creator of the board game version of Keep the Heroes Out! “We wanted to bring Keep the Heroes Out! to people who want to play with their friends from afar remotely, or play solo against the AI, so we’re very excited that YarnCat Games has joined us to make this vision a reality.”
