Bluehole Studio, creators of fantasy MMO TERA, revealed that their flagship title is getting the free-to-play treatment along with a new subtitle. The game will now be known as TERA: Rising. Released in May 2012, TERA will be making its switch into to new paradigm with new content including “Champions Skyring,” a PvP arena, and a wave-based dungeon called “Crucible of Flame.”

TERA: Rising will make the switch in February and give players full access to existing content and no level cap, but will only receives two character slots per server. An in-game store will be added as well. Players who have already purchased a copy of TERA will have access to six character slots, an exclusive mount, and an in-game title by way of getting “founder” status. Players who continue to pay $14.99 a month will receive “elite” status which comes with a bevy of perks including more rewards for dungeons, in-game store discounts, an epic mount, and more.

According to En Masse Entertainment’s Brian Knox, the choice was made for TERA to go free-to-play to draw more people to the game and because “the MMO market has changed, and for the better.”

DmC Devil May Cry – Free “Bloody Palace” Update

dmc-devil-may-cry-screenshot-02

Fans of Devil May Cry 3 and 4 may remember the “Bloody Palace” game mode that put players in an arena where they literally fought thousands of levels upon levels of murderous demons until they could take no more. Avid players of the game would often compete with their friends and in tournaments to see who could get the best score, with the winner gaining respect and uhm… hack-and-slash cred. DmC Devil May Cry looks set to continue this trend with an all new “Bloody Palace” mode built around the same concept and goals; several screenshots of which can be found down below.

Once the game launches players will know whether or not they can play with more than Dante, as in Devil May Cry 3 they could use Dante and Vergil and in 4 they could use both Nero and Dante. It stands to reason then that because of the upcoming Vergil’s Downfall DLC where we get to actually have hands on time with the cool Dark Slayer himself, that he will most likely appear as usable in the game.

This mode comes as a free title update shortly after the game will be released, with no additional charges or codes needed to access it. With over one hundred levels of demons to fight and five different brutal bosses to face, players will certainly have their skills tested on the Global Leaderboards, where they can compete with others from around the world to decide who is the ultimate Demon Slayer.

DmC Devil May Cry will be released in just five days on the 15th of January for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Jackpot!

Crysis 3 – 7 Wonders Episode 3

Crysis 3 - Die 7 Wunder

A pretty incredibly well-done episode of Crysis 3’s 7 Wonders Trailer series has just been released by Crytek and EA. In this trailer we hear protagonist Prophet talk about the “Cause and Effect” of power and how it impacts on the world around us. Then we see a very nicely choreographed slow-mo rewind effect as Prophet kills many, many people and takes down a helicopter, all in a brilliant mix of powers and weapons that the player can actually use in-game.

One thing that is interesting to note is that the trailer uses music featured in Crysis 2, just lightly re-mixed and altered for the trailer. Whether this means that the full soundtrack of Crysis 3 will include previous songs from the series remains to be seen, but with how good the overall quality of the sound design has remained, would that even be such a bad thing?

Crysis 3 is set for release on February 19th in North America, February 21st in Australia, February 22nd in Europe and finally March 7th in Japan. Crytek’s latest title will be releasing on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC.

“Massive Co-op” Trailer for Defiance Revealed

Trion Worlds, the developers behind the Defiance MMO coming out in April, have released a trailer for the game showing off its massive cooperative play. While the video starts off nice and small with only four player characters shown, it quickly ramps up to a whole screen’s worth.

One half of a first-time ever combination show and game that will release and evolve together, the Defiance MMO focuses on the Arkfall events that occur occasionally within the world and requires players to band together to fend off the multitudes of enemies that inhabit the San Francisco Bay Area that has been terraformed for the people to survive there.

How will the show work out? Only time will tell with the premiere in April, but players can get a first look at the game by checking out the beta event coming January 18th-20th for PC. Interested players can check out the website HERE after watching the “Massive Co-op” trailer embedded below.

Snail Games is happy to present a collection of beautiful scenery depicted in the MMORPG title “Age of Wushu”. Currently in its second closed beta phase, Snail Games is actively working with its users to provide high quality content reinterpreting Chinese Wuxia culture. While I may not know much about this particular culture, I can openly admit that these screenshots speak for themselves about quality in an online game.

If you haven’t checked out the game yet, take a look at the beautiful environments below. Interested in joining in the closed beta? Find out more details at the official website (here). Does this accurately depict Chinese Wuxia culture? Let us know in the comments below.

SimCity Intro Video Revealed

SimCity-Showcase-01

Maxis has given us a little something to whet our appetite for SimCity’s AU release on March 7th – the in-game introduction video!

Everybody who is familiar with The Sims franchise is also familiar with the tradition of these intro videos that play after loading up the game. Well, this particular one for SimCity is all gameplay footage and shows off multi-city play and city specialisation, which we covered in our EA Showcase interview with SimCity producer Jason Haber.

The video also gives an example of the “great works” that players will be able to co-operate in building with the Space Center shown at the end. The video can be viewed below.

We are really excited for this SimCity reboot, are you guys? (We know the answer is yes!) How can you not be with the prospect of managing up to 16 cities at once, or with the help of a friend in fully-realised multiplayer for the first time ever in the series!?

psychoelectric-girl-01

Yesterday, a real treat of an anime became available for purchase from NIS America. That anime is Ground Control to Psychoelectric Girl, also known as Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko in Japan. If you thought that English name is a bit strange, the literal name of the series is Electrowave Girl and Youthful Boy.

But I digress, NIS AMerica has released the entire series of Ground Control to Psychoelectric Girl in a Premium Edition package that contains not only the 2 Blu-ray discs but also 2 DVDs for fans who haven’t quite upgraded yet. The package also comes with a hardcover art book as well as their standard oversized collectable slipcase.

This gorgeous looking anime follows the story of Makoto Niwa who has moved into a new city to live with his aunt Meme after his parents began work overseas. By moving to a new area Niwa believes that he can have a normal adolescent life and he grades his every day events with “points.” However things take a strange twist when a girl wrapped up in a futon appears and claims that she is an alien. In all actuality, she is actually named Erio and she is his cousin, but with her strange activities, his dream of a great adolescent life may have gone down the drain.

You may have heard that the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot will have a multiplayer mode of some kind and how Eidos Montreal, the company behind the latest Deus Ex game, is working on creating this multiplayer mode.

Well today Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics released the fourth “Final Hours” Tomb Raider video and in this video, which can be seen below, we see that not only has Chuck actor, Zachary Levi, decided to do a very poor dye-job on his hair, but also some of the mutliplayer features that will be available in Tomb Raider when it is released on March 5th for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and the PC.
