EARLY MACINTOSH GAME FROM 1984, CHIPWITS, SEES REBOOT OVER 40 YEARS LATER. DEMO OUT NEXT WEEK!

This charming reboot hopes to inspire a new generation of future programmers.

BROOKLYN, New York, USA 22nd May 2025 – ChipWits, Inc. is excited to share that their reboot of the original ChipWits is coming to Steam with a demo releasing May 28th. Inspired by the early Macintosh game, old and new players alike can find a passion for programming in this nostalgic automation, programming game.

From Floppy Disks to Steam

The original ChipWits debuted for Macintosh in 1984, developed by Doug Sharp and Mike Johnston. A game for all ages, ChipWits was created to teach players the basic principles of computer programming using a visual programming language of pictorial action chips placed on a chip board. Users chained together these chips to automate a ChipWit through a series of tasks and challenges. Receiving rave reviews and awards from leading magazines at the time like Byte, MacUser, and COMPUTE!, a reimagination of this nostalgic game is now coming to Steam.

Inspiring New Programmers

This current reboot of the 1984 game began back in 2023. The small team led by co-creator of the original ChipWits, Doug Sharp, and lead engineer, Mark Roth, are looking to bring this nostalgic classic to a new generation of fans. Mark Roth himself was first introduced to the original ChipWits in elementary school, by his 5th grade teacher. A programmer now, Mark personally credits the game with sparking his interest in the field. The team hopes to create similar experiences for new players of ChipWits.

“I’m proud that ‘ChipWits’ inspired young coders in the 80s and even prouder that it will inspire a new wave of coders–young and not-so-young–40 years after Mike Johnston and I created it,” shared Doug Sharp.

A Modern Makeover

ChipWits modernizes the retro original with updated graphics and music. New items, chips, missions, challenges, and an online leaderboard round out the additional features. Just like its predecessor, players are faced with a series of missions to complete by programming their little ChipWit robot. Every puzzle is open-ended, giving players the freedom to experiment with different chip combinations and encouraging everyone to find their own solutions. For those looking for an additional challenge, the global leaderboards track level scores, number of chips used, and number of steps taken, with lean and efficient programs coming out on top.

A ChipWits demo will be arriving on Steam this May 28th. Players can solve their way through 15 different levels, including two ChipWit Challenges, and two classic missions from the original 1984 ChipWits! The main story missions are set in Professor Chip’s Factory, where players will automate their ChipWit across the factory floor, maneuvering around obstacles and moving items to complete tasks. ChipWit Challenges are an expanding catalog of standalone puzzles that will be updated regularly. Demo players can always come back and access the two most recent challenges for free as they are published.

Gameplay Features:

  • A Legacy Reboot: Bringing the original 1984 game to a new generation of gamers, an accessible introduction to programming.
  • Easy to Learn: No prior experience required. Learn how to control your ChipWit in the step-by-step tutorial that will have you programming in no time.
  • Hard to Master: Missions build upon themselves with new challenges, chips, and mechanics. Later levels can have players using over a hundred chips across multiple chip boards.
  • Efficiency is Key: Optimize your solutions to maximize your score, minimize the number of chips used, and minimize the number of steps in your program to secure a top spot on the global leaderboards!
  • ChipWit Challenges: An expanding collection of standalone puzzles that challenge the ChipWits community to compete for the highest score or most efficient solution. Complete past challenges and check back regularly for new ones!
  • Old and New: 8 original classic missions from the first ChipWits, and over 55 new puzzles and missions with revamped chips and mechanics will be in the full release.

Wishlist ChipWits now on Steam to be notified of development updates and the upcoming game release. A demo will be available on May 28th for players to experience.

These skills will improve your chances of obtaining higher-quality item drops, such as crops and gems. Additionally, you can enhance livestock breeding, boost your fishing success, and increase the normal growth time of plants.

Become A Trusted Warrior

If you’re feeling adventurous, head to the city’s outskirts and hunt imposing threats. Chain unique combinations of different fighting styles with your sword and bow while perfecting your timing on dodge rolls. Increase your reputation by undertaking brave and dangerous quests. As you explore various dungeons that feature environmental puzzles, you’ll gradually make your way to the center, where boss battles await. This exploration not only offers valuable loot, but also progresses the main questline narrative forward, uncovering the story behind the threats you face and the world around you. After completing quests, you will earn XP points to spend on a combat-focused skill tree. Improve your swordsmanship and archery skills to increase your attack damage and learn new abilities. Keep a close eye on your inventory and manage your equipment, making necessary repairs to ensure the durability of your gardening tools and weapons.

During your downtime, visit the town to trade leftover resources for currency or use them to craft recipes for meals, clothing, or home customizations. Become an integral part of the community by completing errands to build relationships with the local villagers, each possessing unique skills that reflect their trades. Increase your affinity points with each villager to unlock special stat bonuses and gradually learn more lore about the village. Plus, discover new areas in different biomes with different quests!

Digimon fans can finally look forward to something again

Digimon fans finally have some new perspective. After a long dry spell, the series is returning this year with Digimon Story: Time Stranger and a brand new game. (Pre-order here)

Digimon fans can also look forward to their own mobile trading card game and the new anime Digimon Beatbreak. Unlike in previous years, Digimon Con in March was also productive for video game fans. And now there is the next event for Digimon fans to look forward to. Bandai Namco has announced Digimon Expo 2025. The event will take place from 20 to 21 September 2025 at Prism Hall in Tokyo Dome City. The local event is intended to bring together ‘everything Digimon-related,’ first and foremost, of course, the fans, but also anime, video games, the card game and merchandise.

It remains to be seen whether livestreams and new information about the video games will also be offered as part of the event. The timing clashes slightly with the Tokyo Game Show, which takes place just one week later. Further details about the Expo will be presented on 26 June. Digimon Story: Time Stranger will be released this year for PS5, Xbox Series and PC.

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter – The classic returns in new splendour

The acclaimed JRPG series ‘Trails’ celebrates its 20th anniversary with a complete remake of the first part: Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter will be released worldwide on 19 September 2025 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. (Pre-order here)

The remake brings back the original adventure of Estelle and Joshua Bright, two budding Bracers, in a completely remastered 3D world. The kingdom of Liberl has been redesigned in great detail to delight both long-time fans and new players. A key feature is the revamped combat system, which switches seamlessly between real-time ‘field action’ and classic turn-based ‘command battle’. This mechanic is reminiscent of modern titles in the series such as Trails through Daybreak. The new localisation is particularly noteworthy: for the first time, the game will be released with German, French and English subtitles as well as English and Japanese voice-overs. The translation has been completely revised to do justice to the original version.

Physical editions will be available for collectors: In Europe, Clear River Games will distribute the standard version, while Limited Run Games will offer a Collector’s Edition. With Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, both newcomers and veterans will have the opportunity to experience the origin of the epic ‘Trails’ saga in a modern guise. A must for all JRPG fans.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II – Enhanced Edition coming to PS5 this summer

After months of speculation, it’s now official: Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II will be released this summer in an optimised Enhanced Edition for PlayStation 5. Ninja Theory and Microsoft confirmed the port in a video statement on Twitter, accompanied by an update on the official PS Store page, where the title can already be added to the wishlist. The PS5 version of the psychological action adventure game not only comes with graphical optimisations, but also makes use of the console’s special features: Haptic feedback via the DualSense controller as well as full support for PS5 Pro, should provide an even more immersive gaming experience. It is currently unclear whether there will also be a physical edition or whether the release will be exclusively digital.

The return to the PlayStation platform closes a circle, so to speak: The original Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was first released for PS4 in 2017 before Microsoft took over the developer studio Ninja Theory in 2018. The sequel, which was previously available exclusively for Xbox Series X|S and PC, takes Senua to the dark and mythical world of 10th century Viking-influenced Iceland. In terms of content, Hellblade II continues the story of the psychologically marked warrior, once again accompanied by an outstanding audio and visual design that, according to critics, almost achieves cinematic qualities. The Xbox release was widely praised for its depiction of mental illness and technical presentation – an aspect that is likely to impress again on the PS5 with its enhanced hardware.

Microsoft’s move to bring another exclusive title to the rival console is part of a broader multi-platform strategy. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Age of Mythology: Retold and Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition have previously been announced or released for PS5. Other titles such as Gears of War: Reloaded and The Outer Worlds 2 are set to follow in 2025 – and even Halo ports are rumoured to be on the cards. With the imminent PS5 release of Hellblade II, PlayStation gamers can look forward to an intense, cinematic adventure – a reunion with Senua that could set new standards not only narratively but also technically.

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles 2 adds Swordsmith Village Arc with new trailer

SEGA and CyberConnect2 have officially confirmed that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles 2 will be released on 5 August 2025. The title will be released for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC via Steam and for the Nintendo Switch family. A new trailer gives a first look at the Swordsmith Village Arc, which will be included in the game’s story mode. The trailer shows Tanjiro Kamado in action-packed battles as well as new characters such as Muichiro Tokito and Mitsuri Kanroji. The game covers storylines from the Entertainment District Arc to the Swordsmith Village Arc and the Hashira Training Arc. Over 40 playable characters are available in Versus mode, including all nine Hashira as well as demons such as Akaza, Daki and Gyutaro.

Official Store page to pre-order.

Pre-orders for the Digital Deluxe Edition are already available for PlayStation, Xbox and Steam and include, among other things. Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch version will follow at a later date. Players who have game saves from the first Hinokami Chronicles or Sweep the Board! can unlock additional bonuses such as more characters and costumes. With Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles 2, fans can expect a comprehensive action adventure that brings the epic battles and emotional moments of the anime series to life in interactive form.
